I think Daft Punk could take the same spot NIN had this year. I felt like NIN was a headliner, despite not truly being listed as one. Daft Punk will bring in fans and curious people all the same. I also agree that a "techno act" or a "DJ" will never truly be considered a headliner. Just the nature of the game I suppose.

I think we will / should get one of these classic rock acts as headliner next year:
Neil Young Eric Clapton David Bowie The Who (Daltrey and Townshend) Led zeppelin The Rolling Stones Roger Waters or Pink Floyd
A little more recent big name acts I could see headlining bonnaroo (though I wouldn't be as excited):
U2 AC/DC
I just pray for no Rolling Stones. They just seem like an incredibly stale act at this point. And beside Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the Who I have more their music than any of the others listed.
If anyone wants to see me pee my pants, it will happen if and when Daft Punk is announced.
I'd be disappointed with them on the Which Stage - they're a big enough act (arguably the biggest electronic act ever) and they have a HUGE stage and light show. They'd be a tremendous late Friday act on the What stage.
There's a lot wrong with these statements here. First there is no way in hell All American Rejects, Kevin Rudolph, Cassandra Kubinski, and Carolina Liar will ever play Bonnaroo. Their fans include mostly tween girls, and last I checked Bonnaroo isn't going for that demographic. And really, up and coming? Do you not have any idea what up and coming means? These guys, especially AAR, will make more billboard charts than we'd like to admit. Unfortunately this is the type of music that is commercially viable in the classic sense of big money for the record label. Bonnaroo doesn't really search for that demographic.
Next, Chairlift do not have a massive following. If anything they are up and coming, and even then kind of fading. I find it hard to believe they have a secret massive following. The Mars Volta however are above this. They have proven themselves to be a popular touring group and are a pretty established group in the music community. Some may not understand them, or like them, but if you didn't know Mars Volta had a big following, especially on this board, you weren't looking hard enough.
Now I'm being nitpicky here with those last two statements you had, the others you had I could see. These were just ridiculous to me.
Up and coming to me means not able to Headline a huge festival but still have drawing power and still relatively new to the scene...could any of those acts (including AAR) headline Bonnaroo? Of course not. I think three of those acts (with the exception of AAR) could easily play on the Farm. AAR may be a stretch but I could see them as an outside shot.
Chairlift has a strange cult following. I know of several people who go to their shows like clockwork. They again are a band that few people know MUCH about The Mars Volta, to clarify my nitpicked statement, has a large following and I have had at least 15 people ask me how. They are a band that either you get or you don't. Most people who are not into The Mars Volta know VERY LITTLE about them.
Not to nitpicked getting nitpicked but this should clear up any confusion
There is a better chance that my testicles decide to ascend back into my abdomen than there is of Kevin Rudolf does of playing Bonnaroo.

The thing is how long does it take them to set their stage show up?

I don't get all the Rolling Stones hate. Have all the people (not just you) who claim the act is stale or a novelty even seen the Stones live in the past few years? Or do they just hate because the Stones are old and super famous?
I would not describe them as a "stale act". Not any more stale than Bowie, the who, or Zeppelin at this point.
they may be old but they can still rock hard. i'd be more than happy for the stones to headline

Haven't watched the videos yet but me saying they're stale is based upon lack of record production and 2 friends going to a show and saying they weren't really that great. So I'll admit it's kinda of an ignorant opinion because I've never seen them live, but one thing is for sure Bonnaroo could do worse for a headliner. I would just prefer Bowie, based on catelog, than the Who, not the same lineup as the real Who, or the Stones.

I get what you're saying and agree about having others I'd rather see. I'd also choose the who over the stones.....but thats simply because i'm more of a fan of the Who.
I'm thinking Roger Waters / Macca / The Who will take up one of the slots. Radiohead hopefully gets the Saturday slot again. Maybe The Dead on Sunday. I'm also thinking Coldplay, Daft Punk and Prince are possibilities.
Daft Punk would be a headliner at the What.. No doubt about that. They r one of the biggest acts "Around the World." (pun intended) They would be a headliner at any festival. Sure they are not as big in america but they are HUGE everywhere else. Long live Daft Punk.

Looking at the headliners from the past years it's usually acts that are widely known in America. Just because they are HUGE everywhere else doesn't mean they would headline.
It could happen.....sure. But the fact that they are HUGE in places other than America doesn't really mean much when the headliners have generally been acts that are HUGE in America - ones that even most mainstream music fans could name or recognize.
The same can be said for Widespread Panic. They basically exist in a Bonnaroo bubble. The only people I know that know WSP are people that have encountered them in a Roo context. I wonder if they even exist on their own....
HUGE in the South, kind of a smaller act the rest of the country (except for Colorado, kind of). Weird how they play 2-3 sold out nights at Walnut Creek and the big amphitheaters in the South but play theaters when they get to the North East and Midwest... They're arguably the 3rd biggest jam band out there though, after the Dead & Phish, though.
Glad you questioned my sanity. Obviously, my comedic timing was far better than you could imagine. I can't contemplate how you would think anyone would have missed the news that day. Kind of like a mini 9-11 in terms of singular focused media attention.
I've been busy for a few days.
I would love to see The Who, last saw them October 17 1982. There are a few "classic acts" that I would love to see. Clapton is top of the list.

Oh, I know that they are a huge act on the jam scene and in the South in general. It's just weird that they're so regionally huge and a niche act in a lot of other places.

I saw The Who on that tour. It's still my all time favorite. The B-52's and Joan Jett opened. You got The Clash didn't you? If so, you lucky Love Child.
Recent Who shows I've seen on tv were less than impressive. Daltrey's voice is pretty much gone.
Yeah, I agree with you. As much as I LOVE The Who, old age plus years of awesome wailing have done a major disservice to Roger. I think they would be a good headliner just so I could say I've seen The Who (minus Keith and John), but I just fear that it would be a disappointment overall. Unfortunately, I'm too young to have ever seen them at their best.

I'm really jealous of anyone that got to see the Who with John or even with Keith and John. I wouldn't really beg for the Who to headline but I would be relatively excited just because they are a band whose back catalog I really love, and it would be nice to cross them off the ol' list. I feel about them like I do about the Stones. Great back in their respective hey days, wouldn't be super excited to see them, but I would be more than content.
If the Rolling Stones headline.....Damn....I 'm Stones fan....but they are getting old...I've seen them a few times and the last time they didn't move around so quickly... ....or maybe I was drunk..
