This isn't Tiesto or Oakenfold here, this is Daft Punk. They've headlined Lolla and Coachella a couple years ago. If anything they've increased their profile here since then with Alive 2007. Also ask anyone who went to see them on the Pyramid tour and all you hear is how great it was. I just think a bunch of people are underestimating the draw they have.

Kings of Leon are headliners at a bunch of festivals....and a lot of people still feel they aren't big enough/good enough for a headlining spot.
Headlining another festival does not = headlining bonnaroo
I dont think playing in the Sahara tent is considered headlining
Touche, but they were second billed that day, and being the Sahara headliner is a big deal in itself. Also they were second billed for the entire festival at Lolla after Pearl Jam. To say that they could not be a headliner at Bonnaroo after proving themselves all over the world as a top notch festival and touring act is in my opinion silly.

But we're not talking smaller scale festivals like Rothbury or even Sasquatch here. These are Lollapalooza and Coachella, which are comparable. Pearl Jam was the top headliner at Lollapalooza in 2007, they were then the top headliner at Bonnaroo the next year. To think that Bonnaroo is far and away superior to festivals like Coachella and Lolla in terms of lineup to the point where we're only getting Bruce Springsteen caliber acts every day of the festival is wrong.

Aren't KOL one of the 5 or 6 Lolla headliners this year?
I don't think Bonnaroo is far and away superior to festivals like Coachella and Lolla in terms of lineup - I just think that saying one band headlined one festival means they would be headliners for another isn't always true.
I feel this is the case with Daft Punk. The Killers headlined Coachella this year and are set for Lolla. Do I think they could headline Roo next year....no. Same goes for KOL.

Yeah, but these are a bunch of the most likely folks to go to next year's Bonnaroo. Virtually nobody's saying that they don't like them, just that they don't envision them as Roo headliners. It's all a matter of opinion and it will never come to a vote -- it's a Rootatorship and it's Superfly's vision that will determine a) if they come at all b) where they are billed and c) where and when they play.
This conversation really does not seem to be converting any opinions.

Well we're going to need something to talk about until next June.

Yea I don't think anyone's really trying to change opinions on daft punk. We just exchanging thoughts on why we do or do not think daft punk could headline. Some think they can and give reasons, some think they can't and give reasons........all in the name of discussion.
And yes we have a lot of time to kill until next year.
I'm pretty sure most people I know that would even consider going to Bonnaroo not only know who Daft Punk is, but have seen the Daft Hands / Daft Bodies youtube vids.
You can put me into the Daft headliner camp. I think they can 100% headline. A few car commercials and a Victoria Secret spot ... not to mention that Kanye thing ... Yeah. I think they can.
People who don't like Daft Punk are just way behind the times. They have been the standard for making classic electronica records and putting on the best live show the genre has ever seen for the last 10 years.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
A late night what stage would be best but i could see them in he byrne spot against someone like Dave Matthews Band who there won't be much crossover appeal (as we have seen in this thread so far)
Rush and Daft Punk just keep getting crapped on and i dont know why
i'm guessing Electric Light Orchestra wouldnt get any respect around here either.

^^thats a very generalized statement, and really doesnt make sense. People who don't like DP are "way behind the times." Yet, DP has "been the standard for making CLASSIC electronica records."
And oh yea, being way behind the times really puts you at a disadvantage in liking 'Roo's headliners. I mean, Springsteen, Neil Young, Bob Dylan....they all jsut signed their first record contracts within the past few years, right??
classic- as in a record that will be remembered years from now. Not classic=old
i want Rush and ELO more than anyone and own almost every Neil and Dylan records known to man, so im not really a modern music kind of guy if thats what you were implying.

I didn't say I didn't like Daft Punk. I said they are not capable of headlining. I was at the Coachella show so yeah.
The whole poll my friends argument doesn't really hold any weight for me, it's too personal. Your friends might be completely off base with the Roo attendee if Daft Punk were to play. If you were to ask any of my friends who Daft Punk is, they would all know who they were.

Well i guess we will just have to wait and see but I think you will be waiting a very long time for their headlining set.
I want daft late night. I dont care if theyre billed as a headliner. Just have them there and have them play from 12:30 AM to whenver they feel like getting off.
Garth Algar: Do you ever get the feeling Benjamin's just using us?
Wayne Campbell: Good call. It's like he wants us to be liked by everyone. I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.

I just get sick of these back and forth conversations that there is no possible resolution for. That's it -- I'm adding a poll to the Blue Room!

The poll shall solve all ills. But i think the thing you have to consider is how long it will take for DP to set up their stage. Byrne didn't take that long to set up as the Which quasi-headliner this year. The only places I think they could fit in is as a What headliner, Which late-night, or a What late late late night aka the Kanye slot. But the thing is I don't think they will bring back the "Kanye" slot because that was never intended to be put in the schedule in the first place.
Daft Punk is not headliner material. If I polled most people I know I would almost guarantee none of them have ever even heard the name.
The same can be said for Widespread Panic. They basically exist in a Bonnaroo bubble. The only people I know that know WSP are people that have encountered them in a Roo context. I wonder if they even exist on their own....

I think they're much bigger in the south than in the northeast, that may be why.
