So finally all the rest of the albums I ended up ordering with Christmas money have arrived. So here is the full Christmas haul -
Iron & Wine - The Creek Drank the Cradle The Shins - Wincing the Night Away Battles - Gloss Drop Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 Shabazz Palaces - Black Up Nas - Illmatic Madvillain - Madvillainy Flying Lotus - 1983 Tame Impala - Innerspeaker (Original 45RPM press 500 count limited edition)
and then yesterday at my local record store for $25 I got...
Frank Sinatra - The Frank Sinatra Songbook, Volume 1 Chuck Berry - Golden Hits Neil Young - After the Gold Rush Ohio State Marching Band - California Here We Come! Rose Bowl 1971 Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
As well as El Camino (first shipment my local store has received. Both shops said they got slapped on back order waiting lists at the fault of the label ???)
Now granted it will take a couple of months to get the components, but i just want to make sure what I'm getting will serve me well. Would i need a sub? what kind of maintenance is required, spare parts? Are those speakers to big for the amps I have listed, I have some older pioneer floor speakers and I don't know if there any good though, compared to the equipment I plan on buying I fear they would be the weakest link and plan on selling them if so.
Just let me know, i trust the opinions of you people

I'm also looking to build a system around my thorens tt, so I'm not the best source on this yet, but it looks like you have a solid base going there. I've heard good things about the Marantz, and am looking to buy an amp from them once I have the cash.
If you're going to spend that much on a tt, why not look on ebay and get a nice used Rega, maybe even a P3.

You think I should? what would the pro's and cons be? neglecting the obvious monetary issue.. I don't know anything beyond what I've read and apparently that TT is pretty good and Im kind of a perfectionist(except for grammatically) so with money being the only issue I would rather take the time to acquire the best as apposed to buying it twice because I wasn't happy with my first purchase. But like I said I trust the opinions of people on here they helped me survive my first ROO! and not only that I basically kept 3 other people alive and our dumbass neighbors who didn't even bring a tent! Glad I was a little over prepared..

Just from what I've read, Rega's one of the nicest audiophile tts, and the P3 is the older version of the new RP3. It might just be a white whale for me though, the music hall is supposed to be nice as well, and has their own step ups that you may want to look out for on ebay.
None of these things matter anyway without a nice cartridge and system to go along with it, so keep that in mind.

Stallion posts in here sometimes, he's got a little more experience as well in this department, hopefully he comes around soon and can give some more advice.

And since your here I will go ahead and ask what you mean by step-up's? And do you care to elaborate on the last bit about cartridge? And hopefully I have a decent system wish list put together.
Every company is going to have their base model, and then work up from there. It also gets more expensive. I understand the want to get something new and fresh out of the box, but it doesn't hurt to check ebay to see if you can get a 300-400 dollar step up new for around the same price of the base.
It really is a money pit once you get into this sort of stuff, and the more you find out about amps/pre-ams/cartridges/speakers/turntables, the more frustrating it becomes. BUT, it is kind of fun for me to amble around and try and figure this stuff out, and I'm assuming that it would be for you as well.
So around what you had. I'm also kind of confused on the need for a receiver vs splitting between just an amp and a pre-amp, so that's definitely something to look into.

Is this something you don't understand because I don't either. Need more knowledge.
If I understand the question correctly this gives a decent answer
The output from a magnetic cartridge installed in a good quality turntable is MUCH lower than that provided by line level sources like CD or tape, and requires an additional stage of amplification. The recording process used to create records also adds equalization which must be removed during playback to restore proper tonal balance. Most older receivers and amps included an additional gain and RIAA re-equalizer stage, allowing direct connection of a turntable. Whether your equipment has this is easy to determine; look for PHONO on your source selector switch, and jacks labeled PHONO on the rear. Newer stereo equipment made after 1990 often has NO phono input; this is true of most mini-systems and home theatre units, as well as many stereo receivers and amps. Manufacturers seeking to lower production costs began leaving out the phono input because records and turntables are supposedly obsolete in today's world dominated by CDs and DVDs. In order to connect a turntable to these stereos, you need to first pass the signal thru an external RIAA phono preamp to bump the level and fix the equalization. This also applies if you're connecting a turntable to a computer sound card's line input so you can make CD-Rs from LPs; again, a phono preamp is needed to first add gain and tonal correction. We include the needed plug adaptor for computer use.
I've been saying I was going to get a set-up for years and it still hasn't happened. Probably not going to happen anytime soon either. I just spend too much on traveling and concerts
Well I really appreciate the answers guys. I still would like to know if the speakers I have now are good enough for the components I have listed, or will they hold back the sound stage. And when it comes to the two amps I have selected which one would you choose, I don't really know how to compare specs on equipment like this ( i know enough to get by) I would sure like some experienced audio guru to chime in here, to talk about ohms and watts per channel, phono input vs pre amp and receiver combo, how to choose speakers based on the amp output. I really would enjoy some insight if it isn't a bother. I know I could just research on my own but if someone would enjoy writing about it I would love to read it. And if I buy this amp will it be enough to push a surround sound setup I have these with the center channel ATM www.amazon.com/Bose-Bookshelf-Speaker-System-Black/dp/B00006I53A/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326155814&sr=1-12 And I assume I would want to add aSub woofer, I already have a DCM 10" powered sub that needs replaced, at least the down facing sparker dose, Damn cat destroyed it (would I just by any decent 10" woofer and stick it in there?)

I love listening to a record and hearing new things you never heard before. Spinning Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space right now and just heard a piano in 'All of My Thoughts' that I'd never heard before and it really added a new element to the song.
Finally got some photos of my too small and still virgin vinyl collection.
