i guess that comes down to subjectivity then. because based on numbers(other than last year's fiasco), they haven't suffered a bit by the acts they've chosen. and i haven't had any bad experiences with the crowd that's coming in either. i realize others have, and it sucks that people have to go through that, but i think overall its still a bunch of music lovers just trying to get down and have a good time.

Legend, have you ever seen Particle, STS9, Bisco, or Ekoostik Hookah live?
By NO means second tier. But maybe if they put out a cd with a Sony label you might check them out?
I loved Tool in 07'. But c'mon man..how many of the bands on this years lineup have you heard before it came out? I only recognize maybe 15 bands.
2008's lineup had its peaks, and its downfalls. And its peaking during a downfall. (Phil Lesh getting cut off for Kanye). I swore that I wouldn't come back..but Phish is there and there isn't anything I can think of that would be better than three or more sets of one of the most talented bands of all time - No matter how you cut it.

Obviously, I can't speak for Dude, but for me, it's not that I'm owed anything. It's that I hope for a music festival to be about the music first and making money second. I don't mind to pay my money for a good festival, and I don't mind to pay more for a better festival. What I mind is when the focus gets to be all about the money, and the music becomes secondary.
exactly.... but youll never get these guys all riled up with a response like that ;D[/quote]
and you said your not a troll? Isnt what you just said the very definition of a troll?
It's that I hope for a music festival to be about the music first and making money second.
doesn't work that way. you need money to get the music.
the problem is they took our money for a certain kind of festival and used that money and name recognition generated by us to then turn it into a cash guzzling radio fest.
its like if those commercials about smoking weed supporting terrorism were true.

i'm confused...are you saying you only know 15 bands on 2009 lineup or on 2008 lineup?
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

i fail to see where anyone took your money and ran with it. you paid to go to a festival with a lineup you liked, and had a great time. just because its not what YOU think it should be, doesn't mean they've taking anything from you. bonnaroo isn't the only festival in town these days. find one that fits your needs and go to it.

Hey, that's actually a really good idea!!! WOW that is smart. OK so now what we need to do is hold OUR OWN music festival where MUSIC (yaaaay) comes FIRST and money (booooo!) comes second. We'll call it StupidFest. You can be in charge ok?
So first what we need to do is pay for some really good bands to show up. What's this? You say you don't have enough money just laying around to be able to afford really good bands?? Well that's okay, we'll just book the bands and then charge money for tickets. What's this you say? If tickets cost just enough to cover our expenses people will still complain that tickets are too expensive?? Okay, we'll just keep the ticket prices low and then sell food and merch at a bit of a profit too to make up the difference. What's this you say? Some morons will still find a reason to complain and they'll say we have a festival where money comes first and music comes second?? What's this you say? You're a massive tool??
Screw Bonnaroo, let's all go to StupidFest!!!

who gets "raped" by bonnaroo? over the last 6 years, i have paid $200-$300 tickets to roo and get a 4 day lawless party and see easily $1000 worth of concerts if i paid for each one individually.
but to make a full mockery of your foolishness, let's peep that 2002 lineup:
Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio- 2 shows of Phish it at least equivalent if not better than these 2
Ben Harper- gonna be there
The String Cheese Incident- the noodliest of noodly, sorry but not that big of a loss, imo
Phil Lesh and Friends (w/Bob Weir)-still holding out for a member of the dead, if not the whole dead, which would cancel this out
Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyer- a different bela side project is gonna be there
Galactic- amazing as always, gonna be there
Gov't Mule- ditto
Jack Johnson- brings very little to the table musically, the penultimate "meh" artist for me. hopefully he is done with the roo now that someone has decided he is headline material.
Norah Jones- love her, hope she comes back, but Badu is a songstress worth seeing for sure.
Jurassic 5- snoop and beasties will be some good hip hop shows, and certainly more will be added
Les Claypool- always sucks when les skips the farm. luckily it doesn't happen much
moe.- gonna be there
Ween- looking to additions here to, gene ween band perhaps?
i'll stop, but do you see where i am going here? and i still haven't mentioned nin, springsteen, david byrne, the mars volta, elvis costello, merl haggard, wilco, decembrists, MGMT etc. for this year's roo, not to mention we have had zero additions yet. if they toss in STS9, the allman's, and a dead member, this year's lineup will be inconceivably awesome.
i have nostalgia for the old roos too, but something much bigger, is going on now in manchester than what happened in 2002. this year they happened to get a huge lineup stocked full of quality in addition to the commercial appeal of big names.
well the people who went to the early roos got raped. i spent thousands of dollars on roo and they used that money to turn it into what it is now. but 95 percent of those people dont have anything to do with roo now except for an occasional laugh. and they pay these craptacular acts like the police and such so much that we have to pay an increasingly insane amount of money for it. so i feel repeatedly raped. and where is this lawless land you mention? no pipes, no glow sticks, shady security trying to shake you down over dipsh!ts ragin tanks, getting my bowl and my glow sticks taken at the gate, cops arresting people, cops in sniper towers now i hear. roo hasnt been lawless since 04 when the vendors had baskets of dank on open display at their boothes. hell a few people even gave away free samples and packed any bowl you bought. if you think roo is lawless you really need to get out and experience some other festies.
Seriously dude? If you want some kinda lawless stoner mecca where you can party 24-7 without having anyone harshing on your buzz, then go to AllGood and have a great time! They're lineup/atmosphere is clearly more up your alley. I understand being stoked sick glass and mad buds, I used to be all about that, but I grew out of it. And wouldn't you know it, so did Bonnaroo! You make it seem like it's a police state, with people getting cavity searched for druqs at every turn. It's not. In all my years at Bonnaroo, I've never once had a problem with security. It was relatively easy to sneak stuff in, but for the most part, I just kept it at my campsite, and that was fine. But that's besides the point. For people who attend Bonnaroo, they're there not because they want heady nuggets and nitrous tanks at every turn, and the same jam bands every year. They are there for MUSIC, of all genres, including a few jam bands. Bonnaroo has transformed from a festival that caters to a small niche group of people, to a massive event that encompasses people and music from all walks of life. It's like a microcosm of the human experience jammed into four beautiful days. If that doesn't satisfy you, well then, it's very simple: DON'T GO! Stop wasting energy bitching about it, and have fun at the festivals that better suit your narrow needs. Good riddance, and goodbye!
well for both of you...i can and do go to many many other fests. and i talk alot about them with friends who also go to them. but this is inforoo so im talking roo. i dont come around here much. only when something is worth talking about. ill be gone tomorrow until they add gwen stefani in round 1

Wow! You are super clever. How could I possibly have ever conceived of the idea that there could be a music festival where the music is more important, even to the promoters, than the biggest possible bottom line? Why, that's just insane.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
and as far as the partying and all that gimme a break.. trust me ive been there and done that. i go for the music and the family community. roo has lost both of those. but hey if its all ya know its pretty sweet. if youve only had a whopper in your life you will probably think cows are the shit. but you have to have a nice steak before you can truly appreciate the cow. roo used to be the fillet but now its reduced to being a 3 am slider from white castle

I can definitely agree that the atmosphere has suffered greatly since my first year, 05', but the music can't be beat for me, so until it can, i will keep going. Now that i'm back in Ohio i can hit up the NLQP fests for chill fests with good vibes.

The Bonnaroo promoters DO care more about the music than the biggest possible bottom line. Otherwise they'd book Hannah Montana and have a Katy Perry Humping Booth.

wait... I'm from Ohio, but I've never heard of NLQP... enlighten me, please.

And this is why I'm seriously considering going back this year (didn't go last year b/c I didn't like the lineup). Despite my distaste for the change in atmosphere, there are so damn many bands already listed that I want to see.
Unfortunately, it would be like a 20 hour drive for me to go to Nelson Ledges. It makes me sad.

i know... i wish there was a fest. i dont know.. maybe at a beautiful location in west virginia, that even though they could move to another site and have twice as many people and make much more money they keep it the way it is because they love their site. they love their attendees. and they love their music. when you got there you would be asked if you had anything bad with you. you say no and thats that, have a good time. shakedown is actually shake down. glass, reasonably priced hand made goods, not just overpriced mass produced junk. you could actually get what ever party favors you need right on shakedown. no worries about cops jumping out at ya. you get your bag checked on the way to the stage, not the pat down and pocket serach b.s. the shows are ragin, glowsticks flying everywhere... damn if only some such place existed. then life would be all good.
