Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I'm not going to buy his albums. I'm not going to listen to his songs on the radio. I'm not going to go see him on tour. Simple as that. Economics!
If I wanna hear "Stronger", I can just listen to Daft Punk anyway...haha!
Think about it...in 10 years, everyone will remember Bonnaroo. Everyone will remember Phil Lesh. Everyone will remember Pearl Jam. You know who they won't be remembering? That's right. He's just a blip on the radar. They'll be saying, "Who the quack is Kanye West?"
I certainly thought she was onto something. Hell, I already forgot about him. Maybe she just meant people with good taste. C'mon guys, power of suggestion. Just try and forget whasshisname!

Hey...I was trying some wishful thinking here
Think about it though...who persists in music these days? What will they be playing on the radio in 10 years? I mean, Brittney Spears was popular 10 years ago but they don't play her music on the radio. Or NSync. Or much of the pop music that was big at that time...and they sold millions of records. I am trying to make more of a point about whose music will persist.

man that blog has no spell check at all. I like exclamations too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha
Regardless of what you think of Kanye, Bonnaroo did really screw up this whole thing, and unless I'm mistaken, they have remained silent after the fact, just as they did that night.
The spirit of Bonnaroo is not to hold a grudge about things that are out of our control. It's to let bygones be bygones and move on. Kanye did apologize to everyone in that lengthy diatribe he posted. In spite of being one of the imminent poo-stirrers in this whole thing, I have to forgive him because I know what happens when egos (not just his either) and load-in and technical issues collide at a big festival.
Do the people here actually think that any performer would want to come to Bonnaroo and purposefully poop all over the fans? I can't believe that anyone here even thinks this. You are all such beautiful and wonderful people, at least the ones whom I've met in my Bonnaroo experience.
A number of the complaints I've heard were from people who worked to get themselves "in the right frame of mind" for the show and whose "framework" faded before the show started. They feel permanently damaged in some way because of this experience. For everyone to whom this applies that is accusing Kanye of being selfish or egotistical, can you see how this thinking might be a little bit selfish or egotistical yourselves? Do you honestly think that any performer purposefully intends for you to pay to see them in order to have a bad experience?
Everyone is so focused on Kanye's explanation of what happened that led to the delays that people seem to have missed the important element: his apology. He did apologize to everyone, and I think we're being the opposite of everything Bonnaroo stands for if we ignore his apology and focus solely on his explanation. Aren't we supposed to be the bigger people here? Is it really necessary to be this angry over four hours of what was, otherwise, a completely enjoyable festival for everyone?
It doesn't matter what happened or why. That night, people were rowdy, angry, tired, frustrated, screaming, booing, throwing things, and clearly not in the right frame of mind. If someone came out and told us the details of what happened and why on the night that it happened, I can only imagine what the reaction would have been. Listen to how everyone is reacting now -- two weeks after the fact!
This entire journey is a learning experience every time someone takes that stage. This proves it. Nobody is perfect and nothing is an exact science. Nobody's stage show, big or small, is a microwaveable meal that you throw in and *poof* a magic show comes popping out hot 'n fresh for us in minutes. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, passion, and devotion by everyone -- the festival, the stage hands, the runners, and even the artists themselves.
We can't let this incident tear apart the community of Bonnaroo and we can't just throw Kanye under the bus for telling us what we might not want to hear.
You can all do whatever you think is right. If forgiveness is in your heart, just forgive and move on. If it's not, I would ask that you really consider whether or not holding a grudge is going to do anything except drive a wedge between us. I hope you will realize that forgiveness is the only measure that makes the meaning of Bonnaroo shine through.
karma, and karma to the guy you quoted next time I have it.
"You know, I'm starting to like Kanye. I used to think he was a total tampon with douchey sunglasses, but now I'm digging his mini-emotional-breakdowns that are best expressed in CAPS. He's like that kid in grade school that would start a petition, because he was so angry that they only served chicken nuggets one day a week. I mean, he would get really emotional about it. Kanye sort of dresses like that kid too. I always loved that kid. But I don't love CAPS!"

Dear Mr. Kanye, I am sorry to hear that you nearly fell and broke your MACBOOK AIR. I am even more sorry to inform you that you need a new MACBOOK AIR, anyway. The MACBOOK AIR you currently have has a defect in the form of a stuck caps lock key, so you will need a new MACBOOK AIR anyway. Or maybe you could just get a LAPTOP.

well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things
I was a Kanye fan and the situation left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm also a little miffed at Superfly/AC for not being candid with the waiting crowd during the delays. (Incidentally, wouldn't the same delays have occurred if he had remained on the Which Stage since there was only 2 hours between sets there, too?)
What really frustrates me about this situation, though, is the media attention. There is absolutely no critical thinking about this situation, nobody breaking it down, looking at the timeline and the geography involved, etc. While I realize that this is really just an issue for some of us and, apparently, Kanye (okay, and his Mac book Air!), but if you're going to bother with a report then due the frickin' work -- don't just pass on PR statements!!!!!
Anyways, this has been an entertaining distraction and it really did nothing to hamper what was really one of my favorite Roos thus far (fifth one, btw). Possibly the biggest winner in this whole scenario is Metallica. The biggest villians going into this festival have gotten the best cover ever (or at least since their co-headlining tour with Guns N' Roses) -- although the prevailing opinion seems to be that they acquitted themselves nicely anyways.
As I sit here listening to Agaetis Byrjun, I've figured out why Kanye is so mad. He probably saw Sigur Ros' set and realized his music will never transcend what music is.

This was posted on the Kanye West news link on Jambase but found it interesting. Not sure if I believe the dude (avatar is Overall) but take it as you will.
"Here's the straight poop......
I actually had Kanye's tour manager, his "dressing room assistant," his personal trainer and his female back-up singer in my transpo van from a ritzy downtown Nashville hotel all the way to the Bonnaroo fest site from about 10:30 until 11:30 on Saturday night. And what I learned during that run makes Kanye a flat out liar.
Pearl Jam had nothing to do with his going on at 4:30 a.m. That little whiner just wanted to make sure he arrived onsite late enough to ensure that he had no other musical competition while he played.
During our drive, his tour manager let me know that, at best, his private jet plans would get him to the backstage area only 20 minutes before his then-planned stage time. And she said that he always needs "personal down time" before taking the stage.
If this spoiled little f#%k had skipped his Atlanta party, he could have gotten to the festival early enough to do whatever it is he does before going on stage. But he chose to conveniently arrive too late to hit his posted stage time and he chose hold off until all other music stopped.
George Bush may very well hate black people. But Kanye holds an equal level of distain for the truth.
F Kanye."
A few posts later the same poster post this:
"If Kanye really believes the promoters should come to his defense in the media, he's obviously hittin' the pipe too hard. AC, Superfly, and the production people on the main stage who stuck around 12 hours longer than they should have all bent over backwards to make sure his highness was catered to.
And to point fingers at Pearl Jam is ridiculous, too. At least they're an act that believe in giving a crowd their money's worth. Perhaps if Kanye spent a bit more time polishing his talent and a bit less time relying on smoke and mirrors to wow his crowd, he'd be able to walk out onto any stage and perform a FULL set (as contracted).
Something tells me that his silly e-rant has less to do with being upset and hurt than it does with his attempting to lay out a case for demanding his full pay. I have absolutely no direct knowledge about this particular issue, but I'd be shocked if the festival allowed this wuss to do what he did, cut his set short like he did, and then pay him in full."
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
Think about it though...who persists in music these days? What will they be playing on the radio in 10 years? I mean, Brittney Spears was popular 10 years ago but they don't play her music on the radio. Or NSync. Or much of the pop music that was big at that time...and they sold millions of records. I agree, and I know what you were trying to say when you first said it.
He'll definitely still be remembered, but people still remember the Backstreet Boys, too. Kanye West's music will NOT be revered in the same vein as Tupac's or Nirvana's or the Grateful Dead's. Whether you like them or not, those are three artists (or groups thereof) that definitely had a huge, lasting impact on music. Kanye, not so much. What did he give us? He didn't invent the sample. His music is really well-produced, but it's nothing new.
It feels like there's nothing he could have done or said to appease any of you, so really, he's only hurting himself here. And Bonnaroo continues to dodge any criticism or blame by staying silent and letting Kanye dig himself a hole.
I recently had the pleasure of attending the 2008 BonnaRoo MusIc ANd ArTs FestiVal.I had the oppritunity to see many, many talented and diverse acts, such as MetalliCa,PeaRl Jam,WillIe NelSon,and many others.I and my girlfriend were also was looking forward to your performance as we had heard it was a great show with spectacular lighting and stunning visual effects.
We received an email a few days prior to the event,in forming us of the time change for you're set.The following is the email.
"We are excited to announce that Kanye West will now be performing a late night show on the Main Stage on Saturday, June 14th instead of the previously announced time! This scheduling change is being made to allow Kanye to fully present his critically acclaimed "Glow In The Dark" show.
This show marks the first time that anyone has played a late night set on the Main Stage, and it promises to be one of the festival's many highlights.
We have also shifted a few other artists, so make sure to check the schedule for updates!
Now,after this email, you're performance, and the whole falling out over the whole fiasco, and you're subsequent "Public Statement" regarding said incident,I as an attendee of said event would like to express my opinion.
Im not by any means a hip hop "fan"...I know certain artists,I like certain things,I have certain songs and albums, none of yours though, sorry nothing personal.Besides "STRONGER",I can think of "Gold Digger" off the top of my head if someone were to say "Name 5 KanYe West Songs".Agian, nothing personal, just honesty.
I looked forward to your show at Bonnaroo because I look forward to EVERY show I plan on seeing at Bonnaroo, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to open up to a new artist.I never go to Bonnaroo thinking "Wow I hope so and so does'nt suck".
After reading your response,I feel i need to take some of the things you say to task regarding this incident.
you said:
"THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE ... I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS"
is this how you negotiated a new time slot?if so your a suave business man.
you said:
"IT'S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS! "
wow...squid brains...i bet that will catch on and be the next new hip slang just like "hoes","g's",and adding "izzle" to the end of any word.way to start a revolution.
if its not called "GLOW IN THE DARK"for NO (nice double negative way to be up on the grammar)reason, then for what reason is it called that?I saw absolutely NOTHING resembling a light show. You had what looked like some average stage lighting,a cockeyed stage and two screens, one large, one small, both playing the same cheesy space graphics. And not counting the square stage thing that i guess looked sort of like a space ship but more like one of those Acer laptops one buys at walmart,I really saw nothing spectacular about this "light show"...honestly,the raver kids tweaking out and twirling glowsticks put on better effects than that.
you said:
HAS ANYONE EVEN TAKEN THE TIME TO AT LEAST DO THE MATH???
no...lets,shall we?
PeaRl Jam started promptly at 10:15 pm and were scheduled to end at 12:15 pm...ok thats a 2 hour set.if they had ended at 12:15,and lets say we give them an hour to clear their stuff off,and taking into account you said:
MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN'T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE.
that means its 1:15 before youre crew is able to start putting your set on,and since your "technically and visually stimulating"set is so elaborate,I'll give you and hour and a half set up time, granted the crew can do such an elaborate stage in such short time, and your ready by,well,2:45,which is the announced time. But alas,PeaRl Jam ran an hour late,as legendary bands who are into their performance do sometimes, and Bonnaroo made two different announcements via the Jumbotrons saying you would be on at 3:15,the again at 3:30...Now for the math...
PeaRl Jam ends at 12:15+KanYE AGREEING to 2:45= KanYe's CREW HAVING 2 1/2 HOURS (h) TO SET UP
PeaRl Jam ending at 1:15+Bonnaroo Announcing 3:15,+15 more min(m)=Kanye having 2 1/4 hours(h) to set up,but KanYe came on at 4:30 which is 3 1/4 hours (h)past the last act
2 1/2 h> 2 1/4h by 15 m,but 3 1/4>BOTH 2 1/2 and 2 1/4 h,so really ,the set took longer to set up EITHER WAY than the time YOU AGREED TO,therefore KanYe= FAIL
I think blaming it on BonnaRoo and PeaRl Jam is a low class move.
YOU are the one who agreed to the times.I forgot to add this into the equation as well.. you said : AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, " IT WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!"
at 4:20 i was making my own pyro...but for real, with your scaled down set,and the pyro, its looking like it would take about 4 solid hours to set up.Maybe Don needs to be fired.
you said: I HIT THE STAGE AND PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWING SHIT ON THE STAGE AND HAD ACTUALLY HIT THE JANE SCREEN WITH, I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY FUCKING SCREEN.
dude for real...sorry..thats not the usual spirit of Bonnaroo...but neither are 4 hour show delays.I was sort of standing stage right facing the stage middle or so of the crowd and heard several people exclaim that the just wished you had come out and said "sorry guys just relax were setting it up".Nothing wrong with that. I think if you had at least acknowledged the people waiting for you it wouldnt have been as bad.Instead you came out and screamed"IS THIS WHAT YOUVE BEEN WAITNG FORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"....
well,kind of........not really......
As for the show itself,I was kind of confused by the whole plot and synopsis of the show.So your a futuristic rapper, crashed on a deserted planet, and the only way to get off this planet is to rap your way off?And your spaceship has a name and can talk? and you have these futuristic (ala 1983ish) shutter shades that will glow when its time to leave the planet?
well you had them here:
^^and thats a pretty solid performance.nice set...how long did that one take to set up,Daft Punk and all?Should have brought that one..but wait,i forgot you said this: A FEW MORE SONGS IN AND THE SONG WAS ON IT'S WAY UP.. I CUT A FEW SONGS FROM THE SET BECAUSE I WANTED PEOPLE 2 EXPERIENCE STRONGER WHILE THERE WAS STILL SOME DARKNESS TO PERFORM IT IN.
so stronger is the only part of your glow in the dark show that glows?
granted its daylight, but this version of stronger looks nothing like the one above:
granted its daylight and you might not have felt like putting all that on since it wouldnt "glow" as great, but you could have at least humored us...
Bonnaroo said: We have also shifted a few other artists, so make sure to check the schedule for updates!
Yet you are the only one peoples talking about coming on late...you were the only delay of the festival.
you said :I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS,
i say, NOW THIS :
THIS IS A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW. (feel your face melting?)
you said: BONNAROO SHOULD HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT IN MY DEFENSE
WAAAAAAH...waaaaahh.....why dont you cry?want me to call you a waaaaaah-mbulance? YOUR THE H.N.I.C WITH THE MIC IN YOUR HAND WHO AGREED TO A TIME AND A 2 HOUR WINDOW TO SET UP KNOWING YOU NEEDED THREE...COME OUT AND DEFEND YOURSELF AND DONT EXPECT SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT FOR YOU.
you said:I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT... HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF...
if only you could afford a doctor to look at them knees..if only you werent broke and without insurance and a victim of todays economy.
if having that stage means your payday gets cut in half, what are you making off of this tour? $4,000-5,000?
I could go on,but i won't.no sense beating a dead horse. In closing,I would like to say I still had a killer time at Bonnaroo 2008,and still somewhat enjoyed your mediocre performance and stage and lighting.I know you had the opportunity to entertain present and make new fans, but Id say due to your actions at the roo as well as your" apology"youve probably lost a few.
Post by candyflippedaround on Jun 26, 2008 2:26:09 GMT -5
Doesnt anyone who actually waited feel scammed because they waited for a light show and not the actual performer? Or was the whole interest in the light show? I dont get it. He should have just come out and i would have watched

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."
"Weinstein on Wednesday relayed a statement on behalf of the festival that did not specifically address West's complaints but read: "Our world-class event production team strives to accommodate the needs of every performer."
what?
fraid that is all we are going to hear from Superfly
I honestly think Superfly needs to respond with something stronger then just that - I want the whole damn story from them. I also want to know why Kanye failed to address the fact that he was not even onsite prior to his show but was instead in Atlanta doing a show and I want to know what time he actually made it to the site.

^^See the thing about that meg is that nobody really knows the whole damn story except those directly involved. Everybody on here is just playing the he said/she said game. We're never going to know exactly what happened, we're just going to form opinions based on whether we like kanye or we don't like kanye, or if we like superfly's choices or we don't. Even if Superfly made an official announcement on the issue explaining things, it would just be another side to the story that conflicts with kanye's.
I think that's why I'm starting to get bored with the whole thing...
We should've just stuck with making fun of kanye's fans. That's way easier, and a helluva lot more entertaining
