I saw them open for LCD also and they were awesome. I think their live show could use some work but it was really fun and I'd really like to see them again
love love love love the band, but their live show sucks. it def needs major work. its short, very short, and all they do is play the guitar riffs to a backing track with a lead singer. they really need a live DJ with them IMO.

Agreed. Their set was short but acceptable for an opening band. If they headlined with a set that short I'd be pissed. But I'd be content with a 40 min bonnaroo set And yes, totally agree their live show needs some major work. I think they blew up too fast before they could get it together. The best part of their music is the drums beats. It would be cool if they could incorporate live drums but I don't know if that would work. At the very least if they could just have someone onstage with a laptop or turntables I'd be content with that.
edit: All that being said, while it bothered me that the best part of their music was being played on a tape track off stage and their live show needs alot more work, I still thought it was a fun show and I would still welcome them to bonnaroo as is
Agreed. Sometimes shows that depend heavily on backing tracks can be fun. Anyone remember Mindless Self Indulgence?
I used to LOVE MSI. I guess I still do, just kinda played them out too much, and their newer stuff is kinda weak. Their shows were SO much fun. But, while they relied heavily on backing tracks, they did at least have a full 3 piece band
I hated MSI. Buncha kids I used to play in a band with used to love that band and they would play them non-stop on drives to shows. They were always just kind of obnoxious for me.
But yeah, I missed a good portion of Sleigh Bells at LCD due to the shitty venue organization, it was a madhouse getting in there with line-jumpers galore. Sounded fine, but how else are you gonna sound with a backing track? I'd be fine with them being there because they'd probably lead into something awesome (like crystal castles) and I could totally get down with seeing Sleigh Bells in order to get a good spot for Crystal Castles. But all in all, if they are not opening the LN for someone I really want to see, I'll probably skip them.

I saw them at Moog and was underwhelmed. I've been listening to them since about this time last year and was super excited to finally see them, but their show was meh. The energy was there, but it definitely needs some work. I really like the suggestion about live drums, but I'm not really sure. I would definitely still enjoy a repeat of their show at Bonnaroo though. Honestly, I think I'd enjoy it more because I wouldn't go into it with high hopes.
As for MSI, Frankenstein Girls was one of my favorite albums at one point in my life. I only got to see them live once, but it was incredible. I haven't heard their new stuff (but I'm told it's nothing great), but to be honest, I'd welcome them at the farm, too, especially if they play older stuff.

I used to love MSI too, but then I got older and now I'm not as angry as I used to be. The new stuff is definitely shite. They opened for 30STM here in Va Beach a little while ago. It made me sad.

Yeah I grew out of them because I'm became less angry and more.. mature..
With their new stuff I think they started trying to cater to the masses of dumb hot-topic shopping, pop-punk listening young teens who began to turn out in masses at their shows. They still have a few good tracks on the new stuff but songs like "get it up" and "issues" just make me cringe in stupidity.
They're a joke, and I mean that literally, but they're intentionally a joke and I always found that funny. Basically it was some scrawny nerdy guy who came up with some cool music and thought it would be fun to go on stage with a band who cant play instruments and act like an idiot onstage. Then they blew up. Listen to their EP Despierta Los Ninos. Almost the whole CD he's singing about how they're a joke and swidnling kids out of their money. "This Joke has gone too far". And he was correct on that track when he says "It's all downhill from here" But their first 2 albums are pretty excellent. It's just really ridiculous fun music.
Sorry for hi-jacking the thread, I just haven't discussed MSI in a while
Personally, I think their live set leaves A LOT to desired (and could be improved immensely by having a live drummer), but it'd likely be a fun late night set
Sorry, but I don't see what the attraction is for this band. I listened to their album and heard them at Pitchfork last summer. It's just some hipster chick screaming into a microphone with some hipster dude on guitar.
If they're at Roo, that's fine for those that want to see them. I'll be elsewhere (and hopefully out of earshot). I see enough hipsters with inflated egos in DC.

Wait you mean, you didn't see enough hipsters with inflated egos at the hipster mecca that is Pitchfork Festival?

Oh no, don't get me wrong. That cup runnethed over for those three days. But I chose to attend that festival. Everyday life is a bit harder to avoid.
However, after writing that post I decided to give SB another chance and realize my description of their music was wrong in regard to the female screaming. Also, theres a Mac Book involved too. I can understand why some would like them, but I don't. If they show up on a Thursday night, fine. I'll hear them as pass by on my way to a different tent.
