I think a lot of y’all are inflating Paramore’s popularity LOL it’s a bit delusional to think they would pull a bigger crowd than Dua or anything close to No Doubt.
They would be like 3rd or 4th billed on their day. I think they’ve managed to stay more relevant than Blink 182, but they don’t give me the same nostalgia.
Not at all. Paramore IS No Doubt to a whole generation. They sold out two nights at The Forum last year. I think a lot of people underestimate the hold that Paramore and MCR had/has on people.
No Doubt was at one point one of the most popular bands in the US. Tragic Kingdom was the 4th best selling album in 1996 and 2nd best selling in 1997. Paramore never came anywhere close to that level of popularity.
just picked up this Tally Counter, i'll stand in the back of the What field and get an accurate headcount for each of the headliners so we have that data moving forward.
Thu. Tame Impala (headlining main stage) * John Summit
Fri. Childish Gambino
Sat. The Killers
Sun. Justice
Plus! Tame Impala Soundsystem (Sat. Sunset Set)
my guess would be we aren't going to keep doing this Thursday headliner thing. OK maybe we will, but if we do it won't be a really big act like Tame Impala. feel like it makes more sense for that band that maybe would normally play pre HL Which or pre HL What to perform on the what stage. Like an almost headliner. Or it could be a cool way to get a band like Panic back at roo though, have them be the Thursday headliner then do a Which LN set or extended Which evening set.
or for that matter Billy Strings, maybe even Goose. or certain DJs.
also you can tell how comfortable tom and gail are with kristen, and kristen is a good host to the guest judges as well. that's something padma was always so good at, she's the type of person that you just want to be close to because she radiates such charisma.
oh wow i haven't posted in this thread at all yet. really enjoying the season so far but haven't watched last night's episode yet.
i need to absolutely call myself out for all my padma/kristen concern trolling because kristen is absolutely crushing it. she isn't trying to be padma but also isn't trying to radically change the nature of the host slot. i was worried she would overcompensate and try to be "too tough", but she is really striking the balance between kindness and constructive criticism. she isn't as scary as padma but still commands respect. and her actual criticisms of the food are so clear and understandable. and the camera loves her! big shout out to the top chef wardrobe department as always, kristen has had some killer fits and her hair rules as well.
i was also super stoked to see Buddha the other week. i'm kind of surprised at my reaction to him, i guess since i'm not a big sports guy buddha is my equivalent of a GOAT athlete in this competition. nobody else has come close to what he has accomplished in Top Chef and it's possible nobody will. he's a human being but with that healthy dash of oddness that comes with most people who are singularly focused at being great at one thing.
Just to echo everybody else, Sunday was randomly crowded compared to the first two days. We parked in 2A around 2:15pm - the same time as the previous two days - and there were more cars, the lines to get into the camping area was way longer, and the line to get into the actual venue was way longer. I don't even think there was a line the first two days.
Also, Gobi seemed smaller. It's like they cut the back half off and gave it to Mojave lol.
Weirdly enough, the most "on substances" crowd we encountered was L'Imperatrice. A lot of the people around us were talking openly about how much they were rolling lol.

that's a real bummer cuz we were in there with trey
that guy was so cool. turns out we were both at MSG NYE this year but didn't realize until after, he messaged me on instagram. tried to get him to join inforoo but he said he was scared.
Being scared is the first step to joining. we'll see him soon
I was about 8 feet away from postjack at the Friday Phish pit in 2019 and didn't even know it. It's haunted me ever since.

EDIT: realizing you could read this as either me talking about (a) a guy wearing a trey anastasio mask or (b) trey anastasio.
I'm in a musical that closes next week and it's all I've been able to think about but I think Roo energy is gonna skyrocket after that. It's less than 50 fuckin days away
Are you also in the Hyde Park School production of 101 Dalmatians? I had no idea!
Yeah!! I actually play all the dalmatians at once (break a leg to your kiddos, presumably)

what a bummer of an elimination. happy to see soo enter the competition and do well on his first challenge. hoping for a kristen like trajectory for rasika in last chance kitchen. she was a clear front runner and it's wild to lose her already with so many seemingly mediocre chefs this season.
