i just wanna say i don't think lolla smashed anything. they did get better headliners than usual but the rest of the lineup is lacking compared to last two years. still a nice lineup though as many festivals have this year. i think the best part of going to lolla is just being in chi-town

Lolla smashed who? what? GREAT headliners, but that lineup is VERY top heavy. IMO, the lineup features a great deal of "flavor of the month" bands, and Pitchfork darlings, dont get me wrong, I am for sure flying back to Chicago to attend, but the "wow" factor resides at the top of the bill.
Well I think we should all just declare peace in here. Good lord it is two different festivals, with different lineups experiences etc.. I would have to guess one reason we have a which stage is so that fans of other festivals can discuss them without the 'roo fans feeling like our favorite festival is being badmouthed. So lets just quit the one-upmanship, and get over it.

no one is bad mouthing anything, well to be fair i haven't read anything in this thread other than the heading perry said himself after the lineup leaked that he was very proud of it so he didn't care it leaked i'm just surprised he doesn't have a better supporting cast but to be fair this years new artists aren't as good as last years

They spent all their money on the top of the bill. Go to the bottom half of the lineup and it's REAL clear that's what happened. I mean, not to in anyway denigrate the Black Keys and the music they make, but they're billed 10th. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high for a group that doesn't sell out large club venues.

Umm the headline badmouths Bonnaaroo
Well, this kid who randomly started this thread badmouthed our Bonnaroo, his opinion means nothing to me, and most likely the rest of the regular inforooers.
edit: this dude is prolly just a lolla board member stirring up crap.

i don't think an opinion badmouths anything whoever made the headlin is probably a huge fan of radiohead, nin, and rage
that's fine, i could make the same headline but reverse the names and it doesn't change anything i could make a list of pros and cons to both festivals

Well like I said it is time to move this to the Lolla board on the which stage.
lets just quit the one-upmanship, and get over it.
I agree with this. But that statement definitely goes both ways.
I was gonna say this before, but decided against it. But I will say it now. It seems like there's this pedestal that Bonnaroo gets put on, and there are some good reasons for that. The vibe, the diversity, the farm, the camping and on and on. People love Roo for these reasons and seem to take deep offense when someone says that another festival has a better lineup or better headliners or whatever. It's purely opinion based on taste. Just because someone thinks that the Lolla lineup or headliners "SMASHED" the Roo lineup or headliners, does not mean that they're saying Roo sucks or that everyone that goes to Roo sucks. It's just an opinion. I think some people take it personally when someone says that something is better than the thing that they love. But it's pretty childish. It's like grade school kids saying that their dad can beat up their friend's dad. Just state your opinion and move on.

Well this is the roo board where else do you expect us to do it?
^Put Bonnaroo on a pedestal and talk about how great it is. I dont get on the Lolla Board, and say You guys have crappy headliners and bands compared to us. I expect the same courtesy. Like I said talk it up all you want in the which stage.

You can put Roo up on a pedestal all you want. I don't think anyone has been attacking Roo and their lineup. Sure the original poster could have been a little less abrasive saying what he said. But it's like for everytime someone says, "Man I'd much rather see NIN or Rage than Metallica," or whatever, someone take it as an afront to Roo. No one is saying that. It's an opinion not an attack. That's all I'm saying.
EDIT: People go into the Lolla thread in the Which stage festival area and say that they like Roo's lineup better. Should I tell them to keep their opinions on Roo to the What stage or Troo Music Lounge?

Well its late and maybe I am taking it personally I will leave it be.

I just want to say that my original comment had nothing to do with the comparison in quality of lineup/headliners, but rather the inability to even consider the chance that maybe Metallica will surprise some folks on the farm and put on a good show. Nothing against either festie's lineups or headliners, nor really even against the person my comment was directed towards... as long as they're happy, i'm happy. Even tho my karma has *plopped* like clockwork on the hour every hour since then, I hold no grudge
Hating on Pitchfork is popular these days, but no site has done more for indie music than they have. Instead of hating on their opinions, maybe you guys should appreciate the exposure they give local scenes, obscure genres and the way they school young kids in the ABC's of music. I'd much rather have to deal with young know-it-alls versed in music by Pitchfork than young know-it-alls versed in music by Spin.
Well I didn't know we were comparing Pitchfork to others, I was just pointing out how recent reviews were souring opinions of the online mag. Moreover, I'll easily and eagerly give Pitchfork it's due in terms of the history of online indie support, but to blindly give that due to everything they do is silly. I'd argue hating on Pitchfork is still not as popular as sucking up to them.

lollapalooza always has a better lineup in my opinion; it's a lot more diverse and special. Look at the healiners from last year;
Daft Punk (plays very few US shows) Ben Harper Pearl Jam (they played one North American show last year- Lollapalooza) Muse (very few US shows) Interpol Iggy and the Stooges
Bonnaroo 07
The Police (had a huge tour going) Tool (pretty rare, but poopy in my opinion) Widespread Panic White Stripes Ben Harper
Finally, Lolla ALWAYS has a better undercard. There is such a huge selection of bands- the one reason why Bonnaroo might be better is because bands have longer to play.
I really cant understand how people are saying this line up is top heavy or that the undercard is lacking at all I mean
Gnarls Barkley Broken Social Scene Bloc Party the Black Keys The National Explosions in the SKy Malkmus! Girl Talk Battles! Jamie Lidell! Spank Rock!! Brazilian Girls! Chromeo MGMT! BOOKA SHADE
Kid Sister The Cool Kids (Kanye will prob play with both of these acts or vice versa since he came out for their nyc show)
I mean, now that the Lolla lineup has come out I can't say I'd rather go there. In fact, there's almost no desire to go minus Rage. I don't think the lineup, headliners aside, is anything special. I guess I'd tend to agree that its top heavy, maybe even super top heavy.

Alright, I'm gonna throw it out there as completely absurd and a violation of this board's free speech that a moderator changed the thread title. It wasn't offensive, wasn't obscene or vulgar, and didn't break any Inforoo rules. We're changing posts to make them more nice now?

Well you are still discussing a non-bonnaroo thread in a Bonnaroo room I wouldn't Ann Coulter to much.
