Super stoked to see ZPZ on the bill. Calling them a cover band is a disservice. They are a fabulous rock orchestra tackeling some of the most challenging music ever written with incredible precision. I really hope they get a good slot (maybe even a thursday night late tent show. I'm also stoked about Cat Power.
True that, find me 3 guitarist at bonnaroo more skilled than Dweezil, you can't, and if you think you can, you have never seen ZPZ or listened to the You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore albums. And agreed Umphrey's>Bisco. I wouldn't mind their sets being blocked again if Umphrey's got the second set this time, then i can check out a whole set before seeing all of Umphrey's. Maybe Phil and Friends into Umphrey's.

Im a Zappa fan, BUT BB King Warren Haynes Derrick Trucks Robert Randolph (if that counts?) Jack White
and thats just the blues-heavy guitarists, not even touching some of the heavier bands
Roo wasn't exactly hurting for good guitar players to begin with...

From discobiscuits.com:
The Disco Biscuits are excited to have been invited to play at Bonnaroo 2008 in Manchester, TN!!! This will be our third time returning to the festival, and our second late night performance! The seventh annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 12-15 on the same beautiful 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville. The final Bonnaroo 2008 lineup will total over 100 bands and over 20 comedians performing on 13 stages over four days.

I agree with Warren and Derrick. Have you seen ZPZ? Not saying you haven't, just curious.

i'm actually really disappointed in these additions. there are so many bands that i want to see added (cake, beirut, infected mushroom) and i'm just not really into any of these.

Roo will be a first for me to see dweezil actually, (barring a really bad conflict), but my parents are both big zappa fans and i grew up listening to it a lot. i guess i just assume the level of guitar playing is similar to frank's, which is certainly very good. i just think there are some pretty virtuoso performers already up there, thats all. have you seen BB King??? no words describe what that man can do to a guitar.
These additions just wet my pallet a little more. When I saw UM is playing there, I couldn't help but wish for Bisco. I have never seen Bisco live and I can't effin wait. I caught their (UM/Bisco) set handoff in 2006 but then I rolled to another tent.
There will be WAY too many late night conflicts this year. I feel like all the bands I am MOST excited about are late night acts.

actually, i have seen b.b. king, and i couldn't agree with you more. but when i saw him he barely played it at all. i honestly think he's just getting too old to tour and put on an impressive show anymore.

but maybe 'roo will be different.
roo has a rejuvenating effect on people. did u see james brown??? it was like he was 65 again!! ;D
but yeah the king isn't gonna be with us much longer, im afraid. 82 years young, he's a living legend. see him while you can!

I too think BB King isn't what he used to be, and thats what i was referring to. I personally think Frank Zappa was the best guitarist to live, and Dweezil plays his music pretty flawlessly. So in the end i suppose it does just come down to a matter of preference. If you see Frank doing it in a youtube video, Dweezil can probably do it too, which i think is ridiculous. Also, please include Boz with ZPZ too!

Last year, Ornette Coleman had such a surprised look by the turn out and response he go at this "hippie fest." I'm positive that BB will do quite alright.

that explains it then... as an all around creative musician, he's as good as anyone, but there are certainly better guitar specialists out there, imo. regardless, ZPZ is gonna be sick, and maybe dweezil will make me re-evaluate.
it's always great to see the legends get their props at roo. sometimes we forget about greatness before passes away, and its so cool when herbie hancock or james brown, or coleman, or bonnie rait, or earl scruggs or whoever it is play to a crowd 10x larger than anything they have played in years and getting huge ovations. its like a career victory lap courtesy of the roo.
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things

I'm with you on Zappa. I love his guitar playing. He may not be my favorite, but he's in the upper echelon and is one of the most creative players ever.

I just checked my gmail before I got on here and saw the additions and was like... oooh, inforoo will be a-buzzin. And I was correct, lol.
but i am super stoked about the disco biscuits... and I don't know too much about the other bands, but it's always great to experience new music! So yeahh, it's a win win. And I'm so stoked about the late nights too!
This thread is funny. Everyone who loved the initial lineup is unhappy (and already bought tickets). Everyone (like me) who didn't like the initial lineup loves the additions (and is now considering buying). Nice work Superfly - you guys are shrewd.

Dude, Karma for not being into the whole brevity thing.

I pretty much agree with everything you said about Zappa. His music is on another level compositionally and to be able to play some of that stuff on guitar is an incredible achievement. Just looking at the sheet music for Frank Zappa makes my hands cramp up. From everything I've seen and heard, Dweezil has replicated Frank's playing style perfectly.
It's really is impossible to compare a B.B. King to a Dweezil/Frank Zappa or a Robert Randolph. The differences in playing styles just makes it too hard.
Plus, as far as I'm concerned, you could be the greatest technical guitarist in history, but if you can't write an good song, I simply don't care.
