Okay, I know I'm way too obsessive about this, but I also know I'm not alone here.
I'm trying to get an idea of how the top 20 or so bands are going to be divied up (Thursday doesn't traditionally get bands from the top of the lineup, so I'll ignore that for now). According to the band websites, we know the following:
Friday: Metallica, Chris Rock, Raconteurs, Willie Nelson, Bluegrass Allstars, Swell Season Saturday: Pearl Jam, Allman Brothers, BB King, Sigur Ros, Levon Helm, Ben Folds, MIA, Iron and Wine Sunday: Jack Johnson, Plant and Krauss, DCFC, OAR, Yonder Mountain
TBA: Kanye (unless you think he'll play Thursday like his schedule says), Phil Lesh and Friends, My Morning Jacket (originally on pollstar for Saturday), and Umphrey's McGee.
Here are my GUESSES, based on the above and the recent scheduling trends:
Friday What: Metallica, Chris Rock, Willie Nelson Which: Raconteurs, Umphrey's Tents: Bluegrass Allstars (other), Swell Season (this or that) Late Night: Kanye, Phil Lesh
Saturday What: Pearl Jam, MMJ, Allman Brothers Which: Ben Folds, MIA Tents: BB King (other), Iron and Wine (this or that) Late Night: Sigur Ros, Levon Helm
Sunday What: Jack Johnson, OAR, Yonder Mountain Which: Plant and Krauss, DCFC

I would flop Phil and UM...but based on your guesses I would be camping out by What Stage practically all day until the late nights (which isn't a bad thing )
Okay, Umphrey's is a placeholder until they announce a top 20 addition.
It seems like there are so many late night possibilities this year. I'm kinda working on the assumption that bands like UM and MMJ that have done them in the past won't do them again, but I know that probably isn't the case. Lots of bands have done that multiple times, haven't they?

No way BB King is in a tent, he will likely be Which stage during the day. MMJ will probably be late night. I agree, Levon will not be latenight, Ump probably will. OAR was a tent show a few years back, and will likely get the same treatment.

This is pretty accurate, IMO. Like Detective said, I'd bet on BB at Which stage during the day. I don't think MMJ will be late night. How can they possibly top that one from '06? I don't Umphrey's will be late night either.
I think we're going to see this order on the What stage Saturday:

I'm also thinking MMJ will be late-night...otherwise, the schedule looks really plausible. I doubt Levon'll have a late-night, even though he does his midnight ramble thing... We'll need to see who our additions are, also.
EDIT: My 666th post! YES! I think I'll lay low for a while, let this number percolate...
He's currently at #13 on the scedule and represents a very specific genre of music. I would compare it to Ornette Coleman being at #11 last year and closing out the Other Tent on Sunday.
RE: Who out of all the possible bands will play late night?
In contrast to my "no repeats" theory, it's really interesting that Kanye, Lesh, MMJ, and Umphreys are all on the TBA list. Could it be that they are specifically witholding the information until they officially announce the late night sets? Some food for thought...
I've mentioned this before, but I think MMJ would be perfect in the pre-headlining spot on the Which stage Sunday before Jack Johnson. It's practically a headlining spot (that's what a lot of folks said about the White Stripes last year). I'm just not sure if I could see Plant and Krauss on the What stage before Jack Johnson. That would be kinda sad.
Saturday is already pretty stacked without them...

the problem (if you want to call it a problem) with mmj is that how do you follow that 06 late night ridiculousness. you cant really send them back to a day spot..but they cant really top that late night again (can they?)
its really tough to decide where they should play..they are borderline headliners at this point. and probably the defining band of roo the last few years.

I think there is a good argument for MMJ either way, but I think they are going to play late night simply because they are the kind of band who can generally fill out 2-3 hours slots. If they played a stage in the middle of the day they probably wouldn't get more than a 90 minute slot.
And I don't mean to push the BB King thing, but he is a huge draw. Ornette Coleman is amazing, not doubt a legend, but he doesn't draw the same size crowd. I think BB King requires at least the Which stage. I would put him in a similar slot to Buddy Guy from 2 two years ago. If BB King were in a tent it would get wayyy too crowd.

you'd be surprised about BB King. He played a theater here a couple of years back, and I don't know if it was ticket prices or what, but I heard that less than a hundred people showed up.

Yeah, but maybe sending them to the What stage in the day is OK. Even though they've always KILLED, to my knowledge they have yet to play the What stage.
I agree though - no way they'll top that late night.

BB King is much bigger than Ornette Coleman and appeals to a wider audience (I don't think that blues is a very niche type of music). He'll either be late in the day on the Which stage or midday on the What stage even.

Right before Jack Johnson unopposed on the Which stage is as close to headliner as it gets without getting that What Stage headlining spot. Maybe a revision is in order....

Dude, seriously, don't even joke about that.
yea, it would suck, but it could happen.
I know, and even worse, it's very likely...they pulled it last year with FLips/Mule/Galactic. I even said to myself a couple of days ago, "my worst conflict would be MMJ, Volta, and MIA all at the same time." I love the lineup this year, but I dread the conflicts.

i just don't see how you can put phil lesh anywhere other than headliner or at least main stage, when he has headlined before.

In 2006 Ben Folds was on Which Stage and it was waaaaaaay crowded. Almost like the Flaming Lips. I would not be surprised at all if he was moved up to What Stage.
