I was under the impression that the What stage and Which stage were pretty comparable in size.
Phil Lesh is #7 on the lineup. Last year, the #4, #8, and #10 bands closed out the Which stage. I fail to see how putting Phil there would be so hard to imagine.
I knew I should have kept him in the late night slot. If he can't headline, then I would assume he'd get a 3-4 hour set.

with some artists, it's not a matter of the size of the stage, it is the set length. phil lesh & friends getting less than 2 hr. during the day? not happening.

i have nothing real to add to this conversation but if you are right about saturday Saturday What: Pearl Jam, MMJ, Allman Brothers Which: Ben Folds, MIA Tents: BB King (other), Iron and Wine (this or that) Late Night: Sigur Ros, Levon Helm then i am going to die in ecstacy. esp. what you have listed for the What stage. those three acts in one day!!!

the capacity is said to be at 100,000 for the what stage, where as the which stage has been said to be 30,000 but i think there was about 50,000 at the white stripes last year

Wow, really!? That certainly changes things. I was wondering why so many people were making a big deal about which of the stages bands will probably play. I just assumed from the distribution of bands from the lineup last year that the two were pretty equivalent. For example, last year on Friday, Manu Chao (8th on the lineup) played the Which stage while the Roots (#18 on the lineup) played the What stage. Plus, like you said, White Stripes were probably the biggest non-headlining draw last year.
Gogol Bordello's MySpace has them playing on Saturday at Noon.
Considering most of the action doesn't usually start until 1pm, I assume that's just a placeholder until they get their official settime. You're forced to put a time on Myspace in order to list anything.

Last year they played Saturday 2:15 - 3:30, 2nd act of the day in This Tent.
With new additions/info, this is how I see it now:
Thursday Kanye??????
Friday What: Metallica, Chris Rock, Willie Nelson Which: Raconteurs, Cat Power Tents: Bluegrass Allstars (other), Swell Season (this or that) Late Night: MMJ, Umphrey's
Saturday What: Pearl Jam, Allman Brothers, BB King Which: Ben Folds, MIA Tents: Iron and Wine (this or that) Late Night: Phil Lesh, Sigur Ros, Levon Helm
Sunday What: Jack Johnson, OAR, Yonder Mountain Which: Plant and Krauss, DCFC
Why do people think that Levon Helm is going to be latenight? I just don't see that happening.
I think because some of his shows are called the Midnight Ramble.
The speculation is that the Ramble on the Road will follow the format of the Midnight Rambles at his studio. From the website: Once the show starts, get ready! Levon Helm and his fellow musicians play with such joy, energy and enthusiasm, you will find it difficult not to fly out of your seat! The show is not the usual hour-and-a-half that most entertainers provide at a concert. It runs about four hours and often, Levon will greet his guests personally. His genuine warmth and the sincere desire to share his talents and love of music make for an evening that is not just unique, but an experience you will find unforgettable. You will leave smiling and, like most of us, will want to come back for more. Looking forward to seeing you there!
