Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
no problem. i guess you thought that because i replied to your post. i was talking about the knowitall that knows everything that bonnaroo is going to do before they do it.
"HAHA yeah. Ridiculous "I am all that is Bonnaroo, everyone listen to me and there will be peace on Inforoo" "
pat5507, I never said anything approaching that statement. Who is more believable in this discussion, the person who drops mad knowledge, sense and reason on past Bonnaroos or the one who obviously misquotes well-read articles?
I am just trying to do this community a service my dispelling misinformation and I gave reasons why I should be listened to. I never attacked anybody like I am being attacked. Let's not turn Inforoo into Phantasy Tour like you seem intent on doing.
I see lots of people getting definitions mixed up when it comes to "headliners" at Bonnaroo.
Bonnaroo has THREE headliners every year. These are the bands that play on the main stage while no one else is playing . These sets are generally between 8pm and midnight. They are also ALWAYS the first three bands listed on the bill. Pre-headliner is NOT headliner.
Therefore, Pearl Jam, Metallica and Jack Johnson are the headliners. Kanye West is NOT a headliner. Phil and Friends is NOT a headliner. Chris Rock is NOT a headliner. Neither are the Robert Plant and Allison Krause or ANYONE listed below the first three.
The lineup is not finished, therefore this is not true... Jack Johnson headlining is one of the dumbest things I have read on this board... (sorry, I've had a long day)

For the record, superfly never said "rumors of metallica playing bonnaroo are false" the statement was that rumors of Led Zep and Metallica headlining bonnaroo are inaccurate, and they were.
to keep the discussion going, if Kanye played thursday night he wouldnt be considered a headliner? IMO a headliner is simply the biggest act of any given show/day of the festival, and that would certainly be Kanye if he played thursday.

But...he's the third act on the list...and both Superfly and Jack Johnson have said he's headlining...as well as other publications...and...
LoL
I'm not sure what you're lol-ing at, if you think I'm joking or you think I'm a moron, but I was being serious. I mean, he's listed third on the list, he's been called a headliner multiple times, and he's also headlining Coachella this year.
Basically, the people who are saying that the headliners aren't decided yet are people who don't want Jack Johnson headlining Sunday night. Nobody really has any evidence, and Ashley Capps himself said not to expect any more big additions (i.e. headliners). It is what it is. I guess there's a possibility that they'll have someone else closing the festival, but there's also a possibility that a tree could fall on my house. Doesn't mean it's gonna happen.
You have a point candy, but it has already been discussed at length that a Thursday headliner is HIGHLY unlikely and would screw over tens of thousands of fans.

im just curious as to why hes listed for thursday on the "unofficial schedule 2008" thread

I would HATE-HATE-HATE for Jack Johnson to close out the festival on Sunday night...
I don't mind JJ - I like most of his stuff - BUT...
On Sunday night after I have been partying my mind out for the last 3 days and heading into the "last hoorah" - I want a visceral jamming experience - Not the soundtrack to the Curious George movie...
JJ would be best playing in Friday or Saturday afternoon - good calming music to throw out the blanket and chill for an hour or two while he sings songs about first kisses and gently breaking waves - or whatever his songs are about...

Well, Pollstar (or something) has him listed for Thursday.
This has also created some disagreement, because artists have sometimes been listed for Thursday before the schedule comes out, simply because the festival starts on thursday. Some people think he'll be the Thursday night headliner, and some think that's just a placeholder date, to be changed when he announces his real performance time.
That said, he is almost certainly not going to get Jack Johnson's Sunday night headliner spot.
the only hostility is coming from people who refuse to see the truth or believe people who know what they are talking about.
jtr is right, if people would listen to what he is saying, there would be less confusion.
these people spreading misinformation are confusing the issue. No one didn't believe Widespread Panic was a headliner last year, or that Phil Lesh was a headliner in 2006 (Phil had only played the festival in a non-headlining capacity in the past). It's only b/c people don't want to believe Jack Johnson is a headliner are people being hostile and acting like jtr is being a pompous douche, which he is not.
He is simply telling it like it is, and how it has been for 6 years. It's not his fault some people don't want to hear it.

It's like, when they cuffed me and put me in the back of the cruiser, I didn't get to tap on the glass and say "Hey, uh, officer, this isn't really how it's supposed to go...could you maybe just let me get back in my car and go home?"
Just because it's not going the way you wanted it to doesn't mean it's not happening.

I think it's more the way he's saying it than anything else. That and the obvious need to prove the information and be right rather than letting people reconcile their own misconceptions when they decide they need to.
Plenty of us have been to Bonnaroo every year and know the formula, but it's fun to think of new scenarios and talk about them or hope for them.
the way he has said it has been very matter of fact. not hostile, angry, mean, or with a tone. you can read that into it, but I don't.
I like to have fun speculating that I'm gonna come in to work tomorrow and I'm gonna get a $1,000,000 paycheck from here on out. My specualtion doesn't mean that it has a shot in hell at happening.
That's the problem with the speculation I see, it has zero chance of happening. If someone wants to speculate on something that has absolutely no shot at happenning, that's fine. But you have to understand that there will be people to put them in their place when they are done speculating.

I disagree - I find the tone to be condescending and overbearing. Also, anyone who needs to put people in their places for speculating incorrectly is pretty sad in my book. My opinion.

You can't hear anyone's "tone of voice" on a message board, and that's the problem with internet communication. He really was trying to help, but his delivery could use some work. As soon as I read it, I knew it was gonna look really bad, but the fact is, he's right.
But now everyone's offended, and nothing's gonna get done. The problem with the speculation is that while it may just be innocent speculation to you, other people are going to see it and think, "hey, maybe Phil Lesh really will get a Sunday night set after Jack Johnson," or "maybe Jack Johnson really isn't headlining," and then when the schedule comes out, those people will be even more disappointed with the lineup.
Then you get more threads talking about how much Bonnaroo has sold out, how much Metallica sucks, and how Kanye West's massive ego actually pushed Black Kids off the lineup this year.
