Karma, because this is what made Bonnaroo special to begin with. Acts have traditionally wanted to play Bonnaroo because of the unconditional support offered by audiences there. Bonnaroo patrons have always been astute music fans who wanted to share in something special. Let's not forget that. If we breed a bad environment, it will be a bad environment. I bought 3 Metallica albums today. It's time to start welcoming them with open minds and open ears.
I really hope Metallica realizes that Bonnaroo is not their standard show and zazzes it up a little for us. Still, I'm not pissed that they're gonna be there.

Good call, The Black Album isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it was just the start of the decline. If you look at it separately from the rest of their stuff its a decent album.

Last time I saw them was in 2004 in nashville. We got The Call of Ktulu that night, amazing.
The Call of Ktulu medley video on youtube is about the sweetest thing ever, i'd flip out if they did it at bonnaroo. Like seriously, how could you not think thats sweet.
I'm kinda happy about Metallica. Back when my now-brother-in-law started dating my sister, I was a big metalhead and used to listen to my Metallica tapes like they were going out of style (ha! - this was in 92). And so Karl and I would bond over this - and paint our nails together. He'd use white-out.
But then my music tasted changed, I got into grunge and dabbled in pop and country then back to what used to be called alternative. And he makes fun of me for "abandoning" Metallica.
But hey, I still remember almost every word to songs off of the Black album, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lighting, And Justice. And I still absolutely love those songs.
So them being at Bonnaroo brings me back to my roots while still letting me enjoy my current music.
I've never really been a huge fan of Metallica, but I really enjoyed their S&M album. It would be really cool if they added some extra artists (from completely different genres) for some interesting jamming.

Id be pleased if they just played Master of Puppets straight through. That album is my favorite of theirs. And hell, if they end up sucking, more time to rest up for late night...

This is why I don't mind them being there, even tho I don't expect to be at their show. Headliners are not what I go for anyway. Even the ones I like (Radiohead, Petty, etc.) are not worth camping out for to get a good spot and missing other shows for, to me, and if you don't get a good spot you might as well just wait and watch the video later.

hopefully metallica provides a fun-filled evening...of zazz.
if you have such a fear of them at the roo take it up with the city. I was at woodstock 99 and lola when they played. (and killed both shows) that is why I have told the city my 2 cents.

So I listened to those Metallica albums I bought last night, and Metallica quacking rocks. I am so psyched for them now it's unreal (as long as they play early stuff live). Also, I'm sure they will be playing quite a bit of their tracks from their new Rick Rubin produced album.
ya....metallica's eras are pre-black, black, post-black. the black album is its kind of own entity
but ya if tallica does a show like their binge and purge live album....it will be great
The last show I saw in 2000 was very similar to this live album. Not too much from the post Black album era. They have also been known to do a mini acoustic set during their shows. If you realize they have a big time slot to fill, I wouldn't be shocked if they did this.

Which 3 did you get? Karma for being open...I was a punk rock kid with blue hair the first time I saw the Allmans....damn hippies....
Edit: I know I know....read....then post.....I see what you got....good albums....

Not to beat a dead horse....how do you leave Kill Em All out of that sentence? "Hit The Lights" "Four Horsemen" "Seek & Destroy"....
I am an old school metal head too ...i was rebeling against my parents and our dirt loving hair ironin, pot smoking hippie roots and loved metallica! But when the whole Napster thing hit I was making my way back too my roots and was hating them because they "abandon" their fans! Still a little pissed I wil have to go see them and hold my rock fist high! And of course my peace sign held high on the other hand! Saw them in 94 on the black album tour and they put on a great show for Nashvegas!
I have to say one thing in defense of Metallica - regardless of their fans - I have seen them 3 different times - they are an awesome live show - their live show sounds soooo much better then the studio albums - they know how to put on a show.
