He basically said that he is old, geriatric, irrelevant, and that everyone in the audience has no idea who Tom Petty is. I say everyone email the Jim Rome show and tell him how much of an a$$ he is, and show your love for the Petty man.
PS: If you do not know who he is, he is an arrogant sports talk show host on ESPN and the radio.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "
Honestly, bombarding his email box with protest mail would probably just egg him on...and waste your time. I suggest listening to Collin Cowherd instead...that is if you listen to national syndicated sports talk radio.
Yeah, never any love for the Vols. Well, he did rip Eli Manning all season, so I guess that shows what he knows.
Ripping Eli Manning all season was the only reasonable thing to do. Eli played great football the last couple of weeks and in the playoffs, but he was VERY inconsistent this season, so the fact that Jim Rome was critical of Eli does not "show what he knows."
On the other hand, don't think I'm defending Jim Rome, he's an idiot. His radio show may be the most painful thing to ever hit the air. Even when he's not giving his own opinions, he's reading emails of listeners who try desperately to sound just like him, and he rewards these attempts, even calling his listeners "clones." My God I hate that guy.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.

Sorry to be on a rampage here, but Cowherd's a jack*ss too. He took pride and gloated endlessly in convincing his listeners to bombard a website he disagreed with until its server went down. Classy.

I like Cowherd when he's not trying to do "schtick". He's pretty decent for a national guy.
But then, when I used to live in Dallas, I had 1310 The Ticket which is pretty much the greatest sports talk radio station ever. Everything else I've heard is usually either boring (Dan Patrick or Mike Turico) or obnoxious (Jim Rome or JT the Brick).

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. Personally I'm a DP guy...he may be boring, but at least he's reasonably classy and has good guests.

jim rome is one of the best sports analyst on television right now. even if i dont always agree with what he says he doesnt back down from his points and says whats on his mind. compare him to someone like woody paige or chip bayless and the man looks like a sports genious. the other two are pretty much a joke in the world of sports writers if you ask me. jim romes opinionated but he knows what hes talking about, in sports anyways. the tom petty is another issue, tom is goD!

Hate Jim Rome, kinda agree with this though. Petty is far past his prime, and in my opinion his music wasn't awesome in the first place, just not really my taste.
