Every Petty show I've been to the whole place loves every second of it. The hits are timeless, at college parties you still hear Tom Petty's Greatest Hits get played. Play the opening of American Girl, girls will dance regardless of age.

i agree! while wildflowers is my personal fav, american girl will make me dance everytime. i could never get why most people seem to consider bruce springstein the unofficial representative of good ole american rock. it's tom all the way. he's never let us down or done us wrong and (along with many other bands) he's transcended generations.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."
I agree that emailing Rome would be counter-productive. His whole show is based on riling people up so this would just encourage him. And he'd probably use the massive number of emails to show advertisers how many peole listen to his show.
Best idea is to ignore ignorant people.
BTW, I actually like listening to Rome on very rare occassions. But you can't take a thing he says seriously and can't let him p!ss you off. If you do, he wins.

i can't stand jim rome. i went to texas A&M, and we had a huge tragedy in 1999. the 75ft bonfire we built every year before our rival game with the university of texas, fell during construction at 2:18am, killing 12 of our students. he was one of the first to talk shit about us, and how "stupid" Aggies are. it was despicable.
its one thing to try and "rile people up". its quite another to make light of the death of 12 college students.
