I was at Rage @ Alpine and that pit was insane! Those tix went onsale during Roo last year. I lucked out and got tix in the pit. Enjoyed some corn with my concert buddy and hung back around the back of the pit near the front speaker to get a feel for things. At some point, 20-30 en masse rushed from the seats into the pit. It was all downhill from there. I've never seen so many people getting dragged away unconscious and/or with bloodied noses. There was steam rising from that pit in late August, for chrissakes. Whatever security for that show was getting paid certainly wasn't enough. So after the influx of non-pit concertgoers, security moved into the pit area. My friend & I were right behind a couple of them - we weren't able to enjoy any more corn, but I'll be damned if I wasn't glad to see concert security for once. They were all we had between us and that terror of a pit. I would've considered going in there only if I had had a mouthguard with me.
boolaffin20: which NIN show are you speaking of? Was it one of those 05 dates at the Congress w/ Dresden Dolls opening? Or one of the larger venue tours the next year w/ QOTSA?
I have to agree kiel. i have been to thousands of show with mosh pits and out of all them shows that was the only time I got hurt!
i don't get what the razor blade thing was about but i know at all of the ones i have been too, the people are somewhat caring. meaning in the middle of a mosh pit you fall the moshers will stop or guard the dude that fell and help him up and make sure he/she is alright.
to piggyback off of that, most bands that ive ever seen have always stressed to pick someone up if they fall down in the pit.
dont get me wrong, ive left shows with some pretty serious injuries, but none of it was intentional and it pretty much just turns into a funny story and funnier pictures in the long run. everytime ive seen converge, i left the show bleeding and/or with something broken. given i know that there would be nothing that brutal going on at Roo (which is good...theres a time n place for everything) but a few more bass heavy prog-metal bands would never hurt anything...just add more flavor imo.

They should have a hardcore tent with nothing but The Refused, Snapcase, and Death Threat playing rotating sets for 3 days straight.
"the refused are f****ing dead" ...and i'd love to see them at the roo
also stated before, Cursive, has always been a long time favorite of mine, and i think there's a place for them, also as more Saddle Creek bands play i think it opens many collaboration doors.

oh cursive would be absolutely amazing at roo! i saw them last may with mastodon, against me!, and these arms are snakes. one of the best (and most diverse) shows ive ever witnessed in my life!

i missed a golden chance a while back to catch a free cursive show, and still have yet to see them, but i have caught the Good Life a couple times. Maybe Superfly will keep a Saddle Creek thing going after they got Bright Eyes.
"I have seen crazy sheet while moshing, don't get it twisted... We had little f*%ckers throwing naked razor blades at a Mudvayne show one time...." <--------scares me as does this whole thread....
Everyone is entitled to what they like and I'm just trying to help to put the other side into perspective so don't smite me please! I: A)would not attend a show like this even if said heavy band were headlining (which I don't think will ever happen with the exception of RATM) B)Think Tool was a little different from the above bands being named because of their psychedelic feel. C)think the middle of no where on a farm with limited medics does not seem like the best venue for bands that have mosh pits. (and I don't want to see anyone get hurt!) D) My boyfriend attended the RATM (and really likes them) shows at Vegoose and at Alpine and said it was out of control, the crowd was one of the meanest he's ever been around even the one's that were not moshing...that's not something I want to have at my roo Not to say that all people that are fans of this music are mean but I like friendly people at roo and also again don't want anyone to get hurt!
No smiting here, you have a valid point. And as for getting hurt, it would really suck at 'roo... My wife passed out from an asthma attack last year and the medics pretty much said "sorry, we have to prioritize"....
Any-hoo, I am glad to know that I'm not the only one who still enjoys a good, old fashioned moshing...
And as stated, you can just kinda hang back and rock out if you aren't into moshing...
This really makes me miss the old days, back when you had FUN while moshing, and nobody got hurt...intentionally (I swear it USED to be that way)
I stand for peace myself, and think 'Roo could possibly be the place to bring back the "real" mosh pit... Not the meathead/nazi version of moshing....
I saw The Refused mentioned... I LOVE that band....

^^ This is said wife, and I had the BEST time moshing in the Clutch pit last year. I lost my shoes and one of my contacts and hated to leave the pit... I listen to everything... Music can lift my spirits, let me take out pent up aggression, calm my soul or put a smile on my face... there is a place for every genre at Bonnaroo, even Metallica and Tool. In my opinion, the thing to remember is that Bonnaroo has something for everyone if you are willing to open your mind to a type of music that you may have inadvertently stereotyped.

I was at the one w/ QOTSA at AllState Areana. I believe it was in Oct. 05 i know it was october and the following yr i saw them in indy. so i'm pretty sure 05
The Melvins would be awesome in their current incarnation with Big Business-2 drummers, I've seen them several times on tour for A Senile Animal and they put on a better show than they have since the Houdini era, IMO.

Saw them open for Tool last year. Quite a performance!
And if you all have never seen Godsmack live, you need to...
I have never (7 times) seen ANYONE steal a show from Metallica, but these guys did....
every band that i wanted to see between the years 1999 and 2003 toured with godsmack. the first show or two was cool but after about 5 times i wanted to cry because i was so sick of the d-dropping.
the deftones have a killer live show. what's all this fuss about the "passenger" song though. i know it has maynard in it but that isn't even in the top 20 of songs i would want to see them perform. if you are looking for their live show to sound like the studio album you are barking up the wrong tree because they are known for performing way off the cuff. that's why they are a bad-A live band.

I'd give just about anything to hear Passenger performed (correctly) live.
I have never heard Isis before... I just looked them up on youtube. Looks like an awesome live show!
I saw Isis open up for Tool in Pittsburgh in september 06, and it was one of the best shows ive ever seen. They really know how to jam out for awhile then break it down...and i heard someone say they have been at 'roo before??? ...i dont know if they have another album in the works or not, but i say bring 'em on anyway oh, and i saw someone up there talkin about big business... i also (ironically) saw them open up for tool in huntington, and while i couldn't stand their vocalist their drummer KICKS ASS. he came back out later and had a drum duel with danny carey, probably one of the msot amazing things ive ever witnessed.

I was at the Huntington Tool show and I agree with that. Big Business was pretty horrible, but when the drummer came out during Lateralus, it was pretty awesome.

The Jelvins would be even awesomer! That is, Jello Biafra and the Melvins.

I don't know if they've been mentioned but Pelican is pretty bad ass, I think they'd fit in. Just got a cd of theirs (City Of Echoes) and I'm really digging it. I'm pretty sure they are an all instrumental, they would be insane late at night me thinks.

Yeah, Pelican is pretty sweet. They're on Langerado and that kind of surprises me.
Also, someone to check out....Red Sparowes. Fantastic stuff, a little more along the lines of Explosions in the Sky than Pelican though.

Hmmm, I'll definitely need to check them seeing as I love some EITS. Thanks for the suggestion.
