Felonious, are you sure you're not just stoned and posting random bands your finding on myspace lol? Just curious buddy!
I'm not sure where your coming from here. Random Rabbit are making quite a name for themselves in the southeast (especially Atlanta). Though honestly, while I had heard their name and seen their flyers many times, I had never really given them a chance until The Echo Project. They were easily one of my favorite shows there. Rainer Truby? They're a German studio-jazz/dance/whatever trio who have been around for over ten years.....though they don't get the exposure they desrve. Check out their "Elevator Music" disc.
I tend to be odd-man-out here sometimes. I'm not really into alot of the bands that regularly get discussed on this board (i.e. not a jam guy), but I'm very open-minded. That's why I've ben doing Roo for the last 4 years. That being said, I tend to avoid the big draws and headliners and such. In 4 years, I've only been to the main stage once (I did spend all day there though). Bonnaroo is ALL about the smaller bands for me. That's why I'm pushing some of my favorites.

Time for my annual shilling for Great Big Sea ... celticy rock straight outta St John's, Newfoundland. (www.greatbigsea.com) Known in the Northeast and Candada but I'm not sure how well known they are elsewhere. A great, energetic, crowd-pleasing Thursday night closer.
yeah so they are a cover band. but what a good good show they are. and besides. i can only think of like 3 or 4 bands (or songwriters) worth basing your life on. johnny is one of them.
check on lord t and eloise, pnuma trio, and useless heroics.....all available on that myspace thing
we got a memphis boy here (i went to high school with lane shaw). and i also saw someone mention minivan blues band, another memphrican tribe...nice. another good memphis band is rainy day manual.
there's also a couple jacksonville bands like shangrala and black kids that would fit in nicely, as would jackson, ms band jonezetta

I think the Avett Brothers should come! (have they done roo before? i cant remember? )
They a cafe show in 2006. I stumbled onto it during Saturday latenight. They were great, very energetic, and totally made me forget about that "meh" superjam I had just left.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

Funny. A few posts after this, I suggested Dar Williams. I saw GBS and Dar Williams play a show together in Boston back in... 2001 or 2002. Loads of fun.

Hardly unknown but roo should def bring on Michael Hurley. A pioneer of the freak folk scene who's most well known material to date was with the Holy Model Rounders. His new album is incredible and on a Bonnaroo vets record label (Devendra Banhardt's Gnomonsong). If you have not heard this incredible musician please check him out.
Other groups roo should consider: Josephine Foster (operatic folk), The Carolina Chocolate Drops (All african american oldtime/jugband), The Royal Bangs (one of the finer knoxville indie acts often play with last years unknown band at roo the Tenderhooks), and David Jenkins (awesome guy and a musician to boot).

Ambulance Ltd Howlin Rain Pela Rocco deLuca The Pipettes
I totally second Ambulance LTD and Pela. Pela puts on one of the most high energy shows I've ever seen, and that was to a crowd of 20 people. I can't imagine what they would pull off in front of a captive Roo audience.

The Burnin' Symrnans - I was hopeful they would get picked up by Langerado this year because they are Florida natives. They did play 10K Lakes last year. Go get 'em Roo!
She's pretty folk-y, but I think Dar Williams would be an excellent addition for a daytime show at a smaller venue.
I like that suggestion. Anybody remember the extra tent that they had in 04 with almost exclusively female acts in it? That was kinda cool.
i knew i wasnt going crazy. i remember that tent. thats where i saw mindy smith and nellie mckay. i kept saying that there was one tent missing... do you remember the name? it was near where the ferris wheel is now, right?

It was "Another Tent", where "The Other Tent" now is. And "The Other Tent" was across the main road, near where the ferris wheel now is. It was cool to have such an intimate spot-- I think that tent probably only held about 200 people--, but I guess it was too many musical choices so the promoters took it away. There were some good shows there! I'll never forget dancing to Cut Chemist for about 4 straight hours.
eff yeah. ive been racking my brain for ever trying to remember the name of that tent. awesome thanks. yeah i saw a few good shows there.

Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.
don't know how many of you guys have heard Rollin' in the Hay (my grass is BLUE!) but they are a kick ass little 3 piece bluegrass band from AL and i have wondered every year why they havent been asked to play. They would reallly fit with the old school roo hippie vibe! They sing a song called dream ticket and the chours says "Give me a tye dye shirt, a pair of Birkenstock sandels and a TICKET TO THE GRATEFUL DEAD!" I loves me some rollin in the hay! anyone heard of them. Wish they would play although i get to see them pretty regularly i wanna share!
