anyone ever heard of a band called 500 miles to memphis from cincinnati? they are country punk and their sound has been described as green day playing johnny cash covers. that's kind of accurate, but i really think they would go over well at bonnaroo, probably a small stage like troo music lounge or blue room cafe. they have a steel lap guitar player who is much, much older than the rest of the band, the band are mostly in their 20's and he is old enough to be their grandpa. anyways, check them out, they fucking rock...

I nominate Bob Log III as a Bonnaroo 08 cafe act. and, though they may be big enough for an afternoon tent, Giant Sand (or Howe Gelb solo) need to make it to Bonnaroo.

Eddie From Ohio, a fantastic folk-rock quartet based in Virginia. They are excellent musicians who write beautiful, often funny, and thoroughly enjoyable songs, and they put on a great live show. What more could a Bonnaroo patron want?

I saw W.E. Whitmore last year at a small club in Northern Kentucky, the Mad Hatter, maybe 50-100 people there, he opened for Rocky Votolato and Lucero. I could see him in the Troo Music Lounge. I have an Eddie from Ohio cd, and they remind me of Ollabelle and Old Crow Medicine Show, and they too would be good for the Troo Music Lounge.

The Incredible Heat Machine, The Homegrown Band (THB), De Nova Dohl, SkyHi, Strut, or Yo Mamas Big Fat Booty Band. The first 4 bands are local bands (Murfreesboro) that are starting to get some recognition around the area, and I know they would throw it down. The Incredible Heat Machine bring the heat every night they play (also it would be cool to see my friends on stage at Roo), THB is playing the Cannabis Cup for the second time in the last 3 years, SkyHi is funky, Strut and Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band are both from Asheville and deserve your listening.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
I really think this band called Flying should be at 'roo. They're a DIY band from NYC and they make this crazy/mellow mix of indie, noise, jazz, and psychedelic. www.flyingflyingflying.com if you're interested
I recommend Ryan Montbleau Band--Some jazz, rock, folk, swing, and country. They're like a mini Bonnaroo all rolled up into one band. www.ryanmontbleauband.com/music.php Check out "Maybe Today" and "Honeymoon Eyes."

After having just seen them live at Echo, my vote goes to Random Rabbit (Atlanta)! If I was forced to compare them to another band, I would have to go with STS9. RR is more on the electronic sided of the spectrum but, they also incorporate live musicians. It would have to be a late-night set but, they would be a great addition to Roo '08!
They were at Echo Project. They were the band playing on the first little stage as we were coming in for Rabbit In The Moon. Kick-ass funky goofballs. they made me laugh and dance all at the same time.
Being from Eastern Kentucky I have always had an interest in bluegrass, so I would like to see a little more of it at the Roo...some acts I think would be cool to see would be..
Third Tyme Out Cherryholmes Don Rigsby Doyle Lawson Marty Rayborn J.D. Crowe and the New South

How about Chatham Co. Line. Saw em earlier this year. They've got great harmonies and some fine players. They'd be a great cafe act.

Whiskey Falls....they are being PR'd pretty hard as a country act but they have a harder edge....and the best four part harmonies I have heard in a LOOOONG time - would make a great afternoon set or cafe act. They did a version of 'Seven Bridges Road' at BSJ that beats ANY version I have ever heard.......
How about the Hackensaw Boys? Saw them Thurs at the Bijou in Knoxville and Friday at Barley's Tap Room. Hell of a show!!! These guys are great and fun to watch. They would be great at Roo!

They played roo in (i think) 03. I didn't catch their set, but I found a DL and it sounds like a fun show.

Have any of you ever heard of this guy named Phil Lesh? He's a really good bass player that goes on tour with a bunch of musician friends of his from all different bands. I think he'd be really good at Bonnaroo.
I also heard he did a couple of shows with Jerry Garcia back in the day.

I have definitely heard of them being from Cincinnati. Another local band that kicks it, albeit similarly to 500 Miles, is Pearlene. They opened for Bonnaro vets Heartless Bastards and have a kind of psychedelic, country-rock feel, and they've added a female vocalist with some serious pipes, which is a great addition to their sound.

I would love a local new orleans ska type funk band, Morning 40 Federation to play roo. I've seen them a couple of times at the House of Blues, and they always put on a really fun, festive, chill show.. I think they the general crowd at roo would dig em!

I would love to see Mischief Brew, a fantastic anarcho-folk act straight outta Philly, play at Bonnaroo. Not only is it great music, but great people as well. Here's their bio:
Emerging from pist-off Pennsylvania punk rock troupe The Orphans, Mischief Brew was started with a single scratchy demo tape by Erik Petersen...utilizing such instruments as acoustic guitar, 12-string Bolivian mandolin, junk percussion, yo ho ho, and a bottle of rum. It 'grew' into a one-person band/acoustic act in the vein of Billy Bragg, Stan Rogers, or Woody Guthrie...and nowadays, you never know what to expect. From a live three-piece punk/folk parade to a multi-piece studio experience with accordions and marimba...Mischief Brew aims to keep you on your boot-tips with a chaotic sampling of pirate-swing, gypsy-jazz, and polka-punk. In the mood? Tune in on the heart of Saturday night at a basement or bar near you...

i've seen pearlene before, they'd be good
also from cincy that would be good at bonnaroo (they'd probably all be small stage acts like troo music lounge or blue room cafe or solar stage) - wussy (alternative/indie), kim taylor (folk/pop), over the rhine (rock/pop), and ryan adcock (rock/folk/pop), comet bluegrass allstars, the times (rock/pop), sonny moorman group (blues), buffalo killers (they opened for the black crowes a few weeks ago at the taft) are all awesome
