2/21/07, 6:06 pm EST G N’ R: Substitute Rock Reunion?
Hating life because the Van Halen dudes aren’t touring after all? Don’t slit your wrists just yet. You might have another nostalgic hair-metal reunion to lose your shit over (in a good way). According to reports, we may just have a Guns N’Roses confab to look forward to. Word is that original GN’R drummer Steven Adler had a long conversation with Axl recently and suggested getting the old crew back together. Axl didn’t explicitly agree — according to Adler, he merely giggled and grinned — but he also didn’t fly into a possessed rage. Adler also claims to have been in talks with Slash, Duff and Izzy, all of whom are allegedly ready to bury the guillotine — er, hatchet with Rose.
“We resolved a lot of sh-t,” Adler revealed. “I said, ‘You know the five of us have to get back together! That’s when it will really take off again! Nothing will be bigger.”
We know what Adler stands to gain from the reunion, but what about the guys who proclaimed Axl was their sworn enemy and filed the paperwork to prove it? Perhaps things with their current fearsome leader Scott Weiland aren’t all wine and roses after all? Better the devil you know folks…better the devil you know. -- Lauren Gitlin

axl's a flake, if it happened i'd be thrilled, but axl's such a douchebag i can't see slash staying which to me means its not worth seeing. just my opinion

Wow, I really wish Axl would pull it together and make this happen. I love that band, and I think that if Axl wasn't such a douche, they could have been one of the great greats of all time. Not that they aren't already legendary, but they were one of those bands that continuously produced exceptional material...
As much as I love GnR, I don't want them at Roo. I dig high energy shows, but I don't think their vibe is right for this festival. Imagine hearing YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE??? YOURE IN THE JUNGLE BABY!. We'd get Mosh Pits and more meat heads than ever and I don't want Tennessee to look anymore like a parking lot outside of the Contentinal Airlines Arena, full of 80s metal heads and tall boys of corrs light smashed all over the place.
well i would definitly go see them. but axl would f**k it up one way or another. and i just see it as one of those sad reunions that is done solely for hype and profits. and if they did anything permanaent i dont think a couple of them would not survive more then a year doing the gnr thing again. they almost didnt survive the first run.

The one and only time I saw G n R, I was not impressed with their live performance - All axl did was scream and fling himself around and the music sounded horrible.
yeah that would be cool and everything until axl jumped off the stage and hit somebody in the head with his microphone stand. that would do wonders for the bonnaroo vibe.

no thanks....i had a gnr dvd from 2002 that i downloaded because brain was the drummer and buckethead on guitar...i thought it would be worth the watch and it was HORRIBLE! Axl ruined the whole thing....he cant sing anymore.....well i guess he never really could haha but now it is just ultra nasaly and annoying AND he wouldnt shut up.....buckethead would be playing a solo and axl would just whine as loud as he could. axl sucks....

I have to say The Police are in a whole different league the GnR ever would hope to be.
I would actually disagree with that, its purely bias on both our parts but I am not looking forward to seeing The Police, I will probably not go to the show. I am not into their music but GNR was one of the first bands I ever loved, Appetite For Destruction was one of the first albums I ever owned. I do agree that they shouldnt be at Bonnaroo for vibe and Axl not being able to sing anymore but I wouldnt say they are in a whole different league. GNR could pump a crowd better than the police will ever be able to.
nah - no criticism here - we are all entitled to our opinons - sometimes I wonder if it comes down to the difference in generations/age with some bands. I was never a big Police fan and was a big GnR fan - but The Police playing together is a once in a lifetime shot for me

I too plan on sitting at the campsite during The Police......ive never seen em before but I cant see me enjoying hearing Roxanne or Message in a Bottle.....But I sat at camp with all our buddies last year during Tom Petty too.......just something about that radio rock
i agree. who wants to go to a show and hear them play a cd note for note. or greatest hits note for note. its just boring. id rather see the dead 3000 times then see tom petty, the police, gnr or tool play the same 10 songs in the same way 3 times. although all of those artists are ones i am excited to see. once. i scratched petty off the list, tool and the police will be in june, hope its a better show then petty was. after listening to the live police album i think it will be an enjoyable show. and the same after listening to a live tool show. should be a great one time experience but i wouldnt want to follow any of them around on tour.

tool will be awesome. i didnt go to petty and will not go to the police but i will def. be there for tool. i dont know what the rules are if any but I have a 2002 tool bootleg dvd that i would b&p those who arent sure about tool. just send me a message if interested.
well maynard isnt too far away. 1 rant about hating hippies and it would be a small crowd real quick. luckily i dont think gnr will ever headline roo. but i said the same thing about tool so who knows.

you know we're bored, and needing a first round annoucement, when we are actually discussing GNR roo possiblities.....the GNR ship has sailed, they will never be the band they were, and will never be at something like Bonnaroo....if they were, i wouldnt be there.

Just to clarify this, most diehard GnR fans (Im not) say that Adler is full of it. He's some kind of hophead now and has never been a reliable source. I did a little digging on this about a week ago when i read it. There's been rumors of a full-blown reunion forever now. These guys were definetly in heavy rotation when I was growing up. Obviously, I kinda went down a different path. I can still rock out to some REAL GnR though, its never been terrible music like Whitesnake or anything like that. I even saw some vids from the Download Festival. I gotta say, unless Axl was lip-synching they sounded AMAZING. I kept looking to see if he was and I couldnt find any evidence to support it. I would be pretty into a full-blown GnR reunion with Slash and the boys. I wouldnt however go out of my way to see it, I would put no more effort into that than I would NIN tickets. Just bands that are worth seeing for the right price.
edit: ohhhh, and no GnR at Roo. Axl should be blacklisted for all eternity.

i think that alot of that was in axls past. tommy hilfiger slapped him last year and he just laughed about it and later dedicated your crazy to him. again i dont think it will ever happen at roo. but i dont think its that far of a stretch if tool is roo headliner material. and id say it would be as big a reunion as the police is and they got the headline spot.

Agreed. I just think the chance of disaster rises greatly. Axl really isnt out of the woods though. In the past 3 years he's walked out on more than a dozen shows. He also backed out of some dates and blamed it on Buckethead. The thing with Hilfiger was much more interesting than that. Axl didnt just shrug it off. He went apeshit because he got clocked by Tommy Hilfiger. Tommy f*cking Hilfiger!!! The original gangsta.

I don't think these guys could commit to an assigned timeslot if they played Bonnaroo. It would be a headlining set that turned into a late night set. Also, no chance all the original members actually get together. MAYBE, if they get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one day, they will do the ceremony together. Other than that, no chance.

I definatly would NOT want to see this. Axl cant sing for his life anymore, anyone hear the new song? Hes past his prime as a musician, which isnt the case with sting, and without a good axl gnr sucks.
