Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.
he has gigs in CA and NV on the 13th, 15th, and 16th. so i think we have to rule him out, because i can't see him playing on thurs the 14th, nor sunday the 17th.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I think he'd actually be pretty sweet closing out roo, similar to the dead set in 04'. Only time will tell though, now im super psyched for whatevers comming tomorrow, if anything at all.
In all seriousness, if Tool had to pull out, I think Superfly would either go with an old standby (Lesh, Trey or Dave) or they'd call in a favor to get RATM. Headliners are pretty hard to come by on short notice.
Obviously I woudln't be too pleased if Tool couldn't make it, but, if they HAD to be replaced.... I don't think anyone would really be displeased with say someone like Neil Young? A Neil Young/Jack White super jam could be all sorts of deadly.
i could go for that.. without the jack white part.. OR with jack white's mouth duct-taped
Not that Jack White has a great voice, but Neil Young has quite possibly the worst voice in classic rock history, imo. I love it, but no one hits the flat notes quite like Young.
Please please please please please please please please don't let the drummer heal up in time. I hope in well and all that, but I really want Tool to NOT be at 'Roo.
Well I am really really bummed - I was so excited about Tool - that is what made up my mind to find the money for tickets - I mean I would have likely gone anyway - but Tool clinched it for me - so this really really sucks big hairy donkey balls!

Well the most likely thing that would happen if Tool couldnt make it would be something weak like another night of Panic or something. While you may love that, itd ruin the fest for a lot of people. I really hope they dont have to replace them, because although i like to dream, its very likely nothing good would come of that.

Not to hate on WSP, but two days of any headliner outside of a maybe Neil Young or Bruce Springsteen (because they both can play totally different styles if given the opportunity) would be redundant.

My point exactly. Its a little close for bonnaroo to get a suitable replacment, so we just gotta wish for a speedy recovery.

Excatly^. I wouldnt reconsider, because i've gone before and didnt even bother seeing all three nights of the headliners(05), but a weak replacment, like that or trey(sorry everyone), would really hurt the fest. Maybe we can get radiohead back. ;D
Ziggy - I agree - I would be depressed with a weak replacement - what gets me is the wondering if they will annouce it before tickets go on sale - truthfully doubt that they can predict the outcome of his surgery by Friday - but still seems wrong to me not to say something about the possibility of Tool not being there

I actually doubt bonnaroo will announce this before the tickets, which sucks because most people outside of avid fans wont know about this. I have a feeling they wont say anything until tool reschedules their tour. I was gonna email bonnaroo about this, but i know i'd just get their automated response crap for questions about the lineup.

I'm not a big Tool fan, so to me, no Tool means one of two possibilities:
First, they could get one of the existing acts to play the spot. This would mean more money to negotiate for better lesser acts in the artist additions, which wouldbe cool, OR...
Second, they could freak out and pay some other big band too much money to headline, which could mean a big band that I'm into, or one that I'm not. In either case, we'd have weaker artist additions...
So, who knows? I hope the guy heals well in any case.

I don't think that anyone truly wants another 'roo with 2 nights of Panic. If TOOL can't play, I think another headliner would have to be added. There isn't really any artist that could be moved into a headlining spot on the initial line-up.
ok guys this is me being optimistic (because i really really really want tool there) 1. first of all, tools site says hes recovering nicely and has already had surgery. 2.he can afford good medical care, hes in a rock band. 3. Bonnaroo isnt for another 4 months, he can recover by then right? 4. the tour they cancelled was the one that only went up to april, this did not include the bonnaroo date. 5. Danny Carey is a beast so lets just hope he recovers.
i look at it this way: if the Police were the #1 headliner, regardless of who the #2 headliner was, if Tool couldn't make it, WSP would rise to the status of #2 headliner. with a draw like the Police & the ol' standby WSP shouldering the burder of the headliner load...wouldn't this be a great transition year for one of the acts who's been a pre-headlining act in previous years to rise up and take on the challenge of #3 headliner? someone like a moe., umphrey's, mmj...i know under normal circumstances none would probably be headline material but under these, i wonder...

I am hoping that Tool can still play. They are probably the main reason why I want to go. if they can't I think maybe NIN could be a replacement. yeah they are a bit harder than Tool but I could see them as a good replacement for a band like Tool. If not, get MMJ to do a headline on the main stage.
There isn't really any artist that could be moved into a headlining spot on the initial line-up.
Ben Harper could. Not saying he would, but if they didn't want to reach for another headliner, Harper's perfectly capable of holding down a 2-3 slot and has headlined festivals before.
isomeone like a moe., umphrey's, mmj...i know under normal circumstances none would probably be headline material but under these, i wonder...
None of these acts would garner half the audience that Tool would. They simply don't have the mainstream exposure or draw. I would go as far as to say half the people at Bonnaroo wouldn't even know who umphrey's was...
