Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.
Well, come monday the Police could either be virtually confirmed or definitely out. They'll announce their big U.S. tour, play a few songs, maybe say something about why they got back together, and HOPEFULLY say they plan to record new songs after the tour.
We should be able to look at their dates and see how their U.S. tour goes, and see if they've got a date the 16th. If not, then I would say that it all comes together perfectly and we'll get the Police.
Don't be shocked if on Monday we still don't know if Bonnaroo is confirmed. They may announce the tour with a giant smoking crater where the Roo date could be, but they may let Roo be the on eto let that cat out of the bag Wednesday.
I wasn't saying it would be confirmed, I highly doubt the Police will steal Bonnaroo's thunder come Wednesday, but I'm guessing they'll show their whole tour with an open space there. Or like you said, they could just announce their tour as a general subject, with Bonnaroo being the first date to be 100% confirmed. That would fit well with Bonnaroo wanting to have noteworthy releases and an exclusive headliner.
IF it's true.
Also Rooskew, the 'on eto' typo really threw me off for a while. I was trying to figure out what the "eto" could stand for (for) a solid couple of minutes.
i would tend to think the police would announce on one day and then bonnaroo would have a completely different day... people's eyes would pop out of their heads if it were all on the same day.
I think we meant that the Police will either announce their tour with specific dates and a hole in their schedule for Roo, or will just announce it as an idea, with Bonnaroo getting to let the cat out of the bag There's no chance of it being the same day.
On a related note - is this not going to be the greatest sequence of days ever, though? Sunday: Police reunite at Grammies - Monday: Police announce tour - Tuesday: Bonnaroo lineup leaks - Wednesday: Bonnaroo lineup confirmed.
police are using live daily for promotion? I just went to see RHCP (also using live daily), $60 a ticket for bleeder seats. Bonnaroo better be ready to shell it out for the Police.
The reunited Police want to play Boston's Fenway Park, with shows on July 28th and 29th, according to Boston TV station WBZ. Fenway Park is the home of the Boston Red Sox, and has hosted big-name concerts over the past few years by the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, and the Dave Matthews Band, among others. There's no word yet on what the Police have planned beyond Sunday (February 11th), when they'll perform on the Grammy Awards telecast on CBS.
Guitarist Andy Summers told us that even though the Police never really said a proper goodbye to their fans, a reunion wouldn't really give him a sense of closure: "I had this sort of conversation with a journalist, and I said, 'Well, it's unfinished business.' And he said, 'Well, why finish it?' And I went, 'You know what? You've got a point there! Why finish anything?' I mean, we get back together, and in fact, it doesn't really finish anything -- all it does is stir it up and put even further heat into the, you know, legacy of the band."
A story in the British press says the Police have been offered in the neighborhood of $300 million for shows in North America and Europe.
ADD On a related note, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the Police might play at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs, on July 5th and 6th. This follows news that Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, might host the band on July 28th and 29th.

how did the police rumor really even come about?
There have been rumors for quite some time. So a Police reunion has been hinted and expected. In terms of a connection to Bonnaroo, much of the talk I have heard seems to have come from Oysterhead at Roo 05. Apparrently, Stewart Copeland had a hell of a time....

besides the fake lineup release on wiki which is obviously false due to pearl jam's tour....
did that police rumor ever have truth?
i'm not saying it did or didn't, i'm just curious.
Rumors came about, and then the Artist Announcement being pushed back pretty much solidified it for me. I would be very, very, very surprised if the Police were not there.
See Bonnaroo always announces the lineup/ticket info at the end of January. And this year, it mysteriously got pushed back to February 14th. With the Police officially getting back together tonight, February 11th, there is a good assumption out there that they are the reason the announcement was pushed back. Makes sense. A band as large as the Police tells you to not announce your lineup before this date, you say ok thank you, no problem.
For the collective emotional stability of the Inforoosters, I really hope that the Police do end up at Roo! I think that if this was a bunch o' crap a la the Pearl Jam rumor (once an iron-clad lock as a headliner in many eyes) it would be crushing to many on here and the announced line up would pale in comparison.
Personally, I'm not so invested in them being added. I'd watch their set but if it didn't come to be I'd be okay with it. They were pretty good tonight, though. (It's only an hour old but I thought the Dixie Chicks had a more powerful performance and John Mayer's currently ripping it up a bit, too.)

The Police were solid -- nothing spectacular, but for a reunion performance at an awards show, it was what it was.
Agreed, stuart was sweet, and sting can still sing, i actually thought his voice sounded better. It was a pretty cool mix on roxanne, but a performance at the grammys isnt gonna tell us much about if they've still got it. We do know this much though, they dont suck, so its lookin good. I think if the police dont headline i'll live, because one of the headliners has to be sweet. Also, i can catch them on their tour.
I think that if they're signed on, by the time Roo comes around their performances will be killer. Playing one song can't indicate their sound overall, but Ziggy is right, they didn't suck. In fact, they were all pretty damn good. Sting's voice is still damn good (held back on the chorus, understandably) and they're all still good on their instruments. It was a little rough around the edges, and you could tell as a group they still haven't come together, but it's the POLICE!
I thought Mayer did rip into his song, it's a shame he didn't stick with the Trio format, that's where he belongs. I think the Dixie Chicks were also WAY overrated and I kept thinking "what the hell is going on?" to myself when they kept winning. A swift reminder why I don't watch the Grammy's.
Did you even listen to that Dixie Chicks album? I'm not a big fan, but it was better than most everything it was nominated against in those various categories.
