was there anyone that really amazed you in years past? who's set you possibly wouldn't have even planned on seeing, and then somehow did and were impressed?
it happened for me last year with death cab for cutie. i liked one of their cd's alot, (and i liked the postal service album), but never really thought they would be a good band live, and didn't plan on seeing them at all. i ended up hearing most of their set while being parked at the bobble-heads to join up with people later, and they were really, really good, imho. i ended up downloading all their cd's after roo.

i love deathcab, i didn't get to see them last eyar cuz i was at oysterhead, btu would ahve loved to. i think mike doughty surprised me the most last year. i really really really really like soul coughing and i enjoy mike's new cd but i wasn't excpecting much form him and when i saw him it was rediculous. his band was sooo tight and he even ahd a few old school soul coughing-esque sampler jams. one of the best shows i've seen in a while

I'm with you on Doughty my friend -- he put on a hell of a show last year. Paradise City > Gambler was such a surprise for me as I had no idea what to expect from his shows.
Death Cab blew me away last year. It was beautiful to have the sun starting to set, the sky all golden and beautiful while Ben and the boys wrapped up their set with What Sara Said > I Will Follow You Into the Dark > Looked Like Giants (extended!) > Sound of Settling > Transatlanticism .... wow that was a hell of a set.
For me though, I'm going with Sasha. I don't know how I found myself there, I suppose I was just reluctant to go to sleep after such an incredible night and the next thing I knew I was dancing to Sasha until long after the sun rose.

ahhh saturday i was OUT OF MY MIND after radiohead and dr. john. i think i just wondered aimlessly after dr.john and eventually ended up at my tent, but it was def. fun
Last year, Dumpstaphunk was the band that blew me away the most. I went to see them because the Superjam was over and I didn't feel like heading back to camp with me buddies yet. So I went over to catch some of their set and ended up having one of the best times I had all weekend.
Overall though, it was Keller Williams in 2003. I hadn't heard of him but had a little time to kill before Bela Fleck. So I thought I'd check out a song or two. I ended up staying for the whole set and now he is one of my favorite artists.
In 2003 I went because a couple of my friends had been in 02 and told me how great it was, and to see Neil Young, James Brown, ABB, and the Dead and I didn't know a whole lot of the supporting artists, my musical tastes and knowledge have broadened so much thanks to Bonnaroo.

One of my favorite 'roo finds was MMJ - their first year at the roo (03?) I had only heard a little of Tennessee Fire, and their set fit into my day just right. After a few songs I was sold and haven't missed them since. I was also really suprised by the Trachtenburg Family Sideshow Players (was that '03 or '04) - not that I've gone out listened to them since, but they really caught me off guard.

that was one of my favorite shows too! but i was actually counting on it being good, i was slightly obsessed with his cd's so i downloaded a bunch of live shows before roo and they sounded great.
late night saturday wandering around centeroo in a confused state just as super jam was starting i caught what i think were The Avett Brothers in troo music lounge. like i said it was late and i was "confused" but im pretty sure it was them once i looked at a schedule and they kinda rocked.

In '04, after eating several chocolates, I went and laid down in the grass to chill. I was very close to where Yonder Mountain were playing and while I didn't actually "see" any of their set, what I heard blew my f*cking mind! It was amazing!
Last year on Thursday I read where a lot of people were going and everyone seemed fairly high on the Wood Brothers. Little did I know that would be one of my favorite shows of the weekend and one of the shows I listen to the most to this day.
I really liked the Motet last year, their show was great. After that I went and checked out the wood brothers. I saw them again in Milwaukee over the summer and I loved both performances.

The Streets were my favorite part of Sunday last year. Mike Skinner had the crowd going nuts. The best part was when he supposedly offended the girl who was with her boyfriend and then Leo started singing "Don't you wish your boyfriend was hot like me?! Don't you wish your boyfriend ate your p*ssy like me?" ... hilarious
I second Stich21 in that the motet was a very pleasant surprise. Also I heard Grace Potter while waiting in line for the USA World Cup game (I believe) and was also impressed.

The Streets. I love the Streets, but I had no idea how good Skinner's live show is. It was a blast.
Same here, I was a just a casual fan wanting to see how they were and they blew me away. I had such a blast, especially Skinner poured some cognac in my mouth.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
