Found this today Dont know if anybody has seen this. but here it is.
Not even a whisper about potential artists for the 2007 headliner. However, frequent Bonnaroo performer Trey Anastasio recently had his own suggestion for a headliner in a Q&A with Rolling Stone: RS: Who do you think should headline Bonnaroo in 2007? Trey Anastasio: Tool! I saw them here in New York at a small theater, and I loved them. They were so loud. They're the most psychedelic band going. The funny thing is, with their odd time signatures and patterns, they sound kinda like Phish
Hehe... holy shit. I would not have guessed that recommendation from him.
But he is right--- anyone who has ever looked beyond their music enough to see the visuals would know that these guys are clearly the most committed psychedelic-visuals band in recent years. Heck, their last album came with 3-D glasses for chrissakes!

Is Tool is dark? Yes. Too dark for Bonnaroo? No.
See the things isn't that they are too dark. The Mars Volta are just as dark, and they have been there. The problem is Tool is huge. So huge they could only be a headliner. If they were a smaller band, who could play a late night, instead of headline, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Instead we would be saying, man I hope they get late night, that show would ROCK! Headlining though is a different story. In a few years I can see it, but for now, too many people would complain.
That being said, bring on the TOOL! Could you imagine a headlining trio of:
TOOL Pearl Jam CSN&Y
Good god, I think I would die of shear joy, as soon as the festival ended.

I remember when word got out that Radiohead was headling last year a bunch of people were complaining, I myself was even shocked,(because up until last year it was a mostly"jam band" festival) but everybody seemed cool with it in the end, so I dont think people will be as suprised this year if Tool headlines as last yearwhen Radiohead headlined. With them headlining last year, its pretty likley Tool would headline if they are there.
i'd love tool to headline. i think that tool's music definitely connects a lot of different types of music fans. some of the most h3tty would probaly complain, but the same thing happened with radiohead.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

There is a festival for TOOL, it's called FAMILY VALUES and it's crap. Don't get me wrong Tool does rock, indeed. But I would have to side with napydred... just too dark for the roo. I think people were OK with Radiohead in the end for a couple of reasons. Radiohead is the closest thing to Pink Floyd we may ever see and they continue to re-invent. Try as they may with the psychedelia, Tool are not on that level. Second, Radiohead's songs no matter how paranoid and foreboding they seem always end up with a phrase or crescendo that lets some light in and uncovers hope. Remember 80,000 standing jaw-dropped and silent? I just don't think Tool has that kind of power....

I disagree but I am allowed my opinion. I guarantee that just like people got used to the idea of Radiohead and loved them at Roo, the same would happen if Tool headlined. I think many people have a pre-conceived notion of Tool's music and they are often very wrong.

I will give you that. Tool is commonly missunderstood. I dig 'em and agree with Ziggy that late night would be unreal. But as a headlinerfor Bonnaroo, there just has to be someone more uplifting. People's misconceptions in this country are a shame musically, but on a bigger level as well. Sorry if I sounded closed-minded there. And come June should the headliner be Tool, I will not complain.

I was one of those people who had never even heard their music but had decided I didn't like them. Then a few years back, a friend introduced me to a few songs and told me I would love them and he was right. Now I am a huge fan of all of their music. They were not what I expected.....

I'm not sure how Dresden Dolls or even the bizarrely jam-band-scene-accepted Mars Volta can be seen as uplifting. (Bizzarely in that people make straight-faced arguments for them but can't find room for a psychedelic, Bill Hicks-loving, Alex Grey career-booming, anti-establishment act like Tool.)
Dunno if they're right to headline, but you'll find few acts that have the music chops, the long-winded rhythmic jams and psychedelic artistic sense like Tool- heavy sound or not.

Thanks for taking one sentence out of context... I've been a fan of Tool and frontman MJK for a long time, deathreau. Don't see how I could be missing the point. Bonnaroo past has taught us that anything goes and all are welcome. Just not sure that Tool are Bonnaroo headliners, imo. Examples like Dresden Dolls and Mars Volta only support my POV as these artists weren't headliners.

Yes, it does suck and thats why TOOL would never play some crappy metal festival like that. Apparently you want to lump them in with Korn????????????????? I talked about TOOL with like 10 ppl at last years Roo and everyone I talked to said they would love to see TOOL there. TOOL is dark and hard at times but like someone said SO IS PRIMUS!!!. Anyways, Im down with TOOL and think ROO would bring out the most psychadelic set TOOL has done. Could you imagine hearing Timothy Leary telling you to think for yourself and question authority and then breaking into Third Eye....a song calling for ppl to trip out and open up........Id love it lol.
I have a buddy that has been to every roo and would probably try and sneak backstage to make love with Maynard if Tool played. There are a lot of folks that would love to see Tool at roo.

as far as non jam bands go I would much rather see tool then pearl jam. Pearl jam just isn't psychedelic at all and i really don't like their type of rock and roll. Tool is at least interesting.
it seems we have forgotten about A perfect Circle, they aren't big enough to headline, and are a little "LIghter" than tool, a little more political, a little more Roo sounding maybe? i think APC prolly has a better chance playin than tool, but i mean it's maynard still, which would be great
Tool headlined Coachella last year, I can't see AC/Superfly wanting to look like they're playing catch up. I'm all in favor of a broad range of music at Roo, but I'd be elsewhere, they really didn't do much for me.
Given Tool's brutal world touring schedule the past year, it's hard for me to see them headlining Bonnaroo this time around. Plus, to point out the obvious, Tool as a stand alone headliner is one thing, but Tool AND Pearl Jam headlining would completely change the vibe of the festival. And seeing as Pearl Jam seems more and more likely to fill a headlining spot, I would be extremely surprised to see both PJ and Tool on the same festival bill.
While I respect Tool for their serious talent. I'm with the "not for roo" camp. I didn't like the vibe that Mars Volta brought to roo and I think the Tool vibe would be even darker and more negative. Nothing against Tool... I do really like them... I just can't see them at roo.
Now Radiohead, though the lyrics are dark and sarcastic, the music still sounds happy in a lot of ways. Tool would make some people crazy.
