gosh i think it will be specail just by itself. my first roo was pure magic. my car broke down and i had to put my crap on the back of someones truck and ride in with them. i was alone...and i had a blast. i really understood the lyrics to "like a rolling stone". i felt such peace. i dont mean to be corny but its true
having said that...there are a lot of special foods at roo. some of the venders have really cool foods such as seafood aligator etc. you could try to do a special meal of something that you havent tried. ive NEVER gotten bad food at roo and i really find it reasonably priced.
you could also put glitter on or a tiara or something that you dont normally do or a tutu (roo tu)
you could also dedicate your birthday to being really nice and helpful to others at roo. extra smiles etc.
whatever you do i have a feeling ti will be a special birthday

Bring a sign and see if you can get someone to sing happy birthday to you! Last year Jay-Z (and the entire audience, of course) sang happy birthday to a girl in the crowd, which must have been such an awesome experience for her. Someone might be willing to sing to you too!
And I like the idea of eating some really interesting food for your birthday meal too. And there should definitely be a tiara or some sort of birthday hat involved!
Or wear a shirt that says "HUG ME IT'S MY BIRTHDAY" and see how many hugs you can collect. Or high-fives or whatever.

My "lady flat" crocs came in the mail today. I spent 5 hours walking around shopping at thrift stores and such in some flats I thought were pretty comfortable, but my feet were screaming by the time I got home. I opened the box my crocs came in and put them on my feet and my feet went from absolute murder to mighty comfortable. They are as cute as a pair of crocs can be, and the only problem I could possibly forsee is if I'm walking in the kind of mud that truly requires boots to keep shoes from getting stuck. I'm in love and and have found my go to Roo shoe!
I made a duct tape dress form yesterday! It's not perfect by any means, but it does the job. Especially for stretchy fabrics. Here's a pic with the top I am working on. It is definitely coming along better than when I was trying to explain to my husband how to pin it while on me (he did not get it).
A couple of notes that I did. You can see in the pic that I added a wire hanger. It kind of slouches when it sits on the ground, and hanging it makes it much easier to work with. I also covered the entire thing in some scrap strechy fabric I had laying around so that I can pin into it.
Next time I will make one that comes down further in my hips so that I can use it when making skirts. The t-shirt I used wasn't long enough this time. Plus we were running out of duct tape.

Oooh, that's cool that there will be feather extensions at Roo! I really shouldn't spend money on that, but if I had cash to spare I'd totally consider it!
We just kind of winged it. I had read a couple of tutorials a long time ago, and have wanted to make one since. Just never got around to it. I was literally wearing a partially sewn top with my husband poking me with pins while I yelled at him that he wasn't doing it right, when we broke out an old t-shirt and the duct tape.
This is how I want to do the next one. (and will in a few months. We are working out and losing weight like gangbusters, so this one will be too big soon.) www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Duct-Tape-Dress-Form
girl you rock. ive always wanted a dress form. i have a relative who lives in Pa who has one they want to give me but getting it here ugh!!! wow to make one with packing peanuts omg wow that way you could change the size. you are my hero woman.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to pack everything in as small a space as possible? I was thinking the vacuum bags, but I don't think I could put them back the way they were.we have a lot to pack in a small space. Any special folding techniques to fit into a small space without wrinkles? I try rolling my clothes but it doesn't always work so well.

Easy solution for the vacuum bags getting re-packed is a 12v raft/air mattress pump. They almost always come with a vacuum attachment and I got one at K-mart on clearance for $3. Not sure about the wrinkle situation though... most of my stuff comes out fine if I roll it.

Good idea! It should help with sleeping bags, pillows, etc. We have a long long trip- San Antonio to Orlando to Atlanta to Bonnaroo to Johnson City TN to visit family... Two weeks of travel with camping gear and coolers in a prius.

Just remember that if you pack super efficiently, you end up having to pack just as efficiently to go back home! The past two years I was flying down so I tried to cram all of my stuff into one bag. It ended up so crammed that once I got to Roo every time I needed something I would have to completely destroy my careful packing job trying to find it. And of course when I put stuff back I would just shove stuff in and was nowhere near as careful as I'd originally been with my space-saving.
So I say just keep in mind that super efficient packing may lead to stuff being strewn all over the tent because it's impossible to get to anything while it's all crammed in so much - and you might end up having to completely unpack and repack before you can zip the bag(s) back up to go home!
I roll all of my clothes to save space. I thought about the space-saving bags, but like Pepper said, you'll have to repack everything that way when you leave.
We're lucky that we only have an hour drive back home, so I put all of my dirty clothes in a trash bag for the trip back. Though I think I usually end up washing EVERYTHING I took to Roo, whether I wore it or not, for good measure
The good thing about going to Johnston City before we go home is that it isn't so far away, so even if we end up riding with some of our stuff up front to get there we can wash clothes and get reorganized at my fiance's parent's place. I'm thinking about only packing clothes for Orlando, Atlanta and Bonnaroo and washing everything to rewear as soon as we get to JC to save space. This is hard because I'm an overpacker because I like options. Thanks for the tips!
I have a couple of compression sacks that I use for big things like my sleeping bag, pillow, and fluffy tutus. These are nice because you don't need the vacuum.
A note on those space-saving bags. They will only save you space if you have bulky/floofy things. T-shirts, tanks, and slim skirts are already pretty flat, so there isn't much air to suck out to make it flatter. I use them at home to store extra pillows and comforters. But they were pretty much worthless when I tried to use them to save room storing out of season clothes. They might be nice, however, if you are packing some big, flowy skirts or tutus, but a compression sack would probably be easier.
you can also send a few things back via the post office inside roo. i used to do that when i traveled for business . if i had to bring a ton of books back i would send back a pack of light weight clothing in the mail and take the heavy books in my bag. it didnt cost much and they were usually there the day after i was

Awesome idea! Hopefully we won't have to resort to this, but it's a great idea for a back up plan.
And yeah^^..I want to use the vaccum bags for sleeping bags and pillows and things.. We bring extra cushioning for our cots.

ugh and ive heard stories of the people searching your car and messing up your perfect packing then you have to sit there before going in and get all the crap back in there. that happened to a friend of mine..she had her food and stuff packed injust so...and they pretty much threw it all over and she had to stop and try to get it back iin the cooler. it was not fun and the group had to wait for her to repack it.
i try to pack as lightly as i can and leave some room
The vacuum bags work even if you don't have a vacuum. They won't compress as small, but you can get a lot of air out by lying down on the bag as you close it. that's what I do at home since I don't own a vacuum.
Using one for my sleeping bag is a GREAT idea! Can't believe I never thought of that.

There's a post office inside roo? I literally learn something new every single day from this board!!

I was at Walmart last night and happened to notice that they've got a few dresses that look like they'd be good for Roo. Most notably, they had one with a built in bra (not just a shelf bra or padded cups but an actual underwire bra). And another one where the bodice was that super-gathered, super-stretchy kinda deal - I can't think of what to call it so hopefully you guys know what I mean. I think maybe the word I'm looking for is a shirred bodice. Like those tube dresses we all got from Walmart two years ago! Except that this one was a tank-style top, which I thought was cool. You wouldn't have to worry about it falling down like with a tube dress, but the shirred top might make it possible to go braless, at least for some people.
You guys know what to expect from Walmart dresses - not the best quality, but pretty perfect for Roo since you can get cheap things you don't have to worry about. I think these ones were $12 a pop. The one with the built in bra looked maybe a little on the cheap side - just because it was pretty basic so it looked a bit like a bra sewed to a skirt, y'know? But it was still pretty cute, and I didn't try it on so who knows, maybe it would look better on a body.
Anyway, just a heads up in case anyone wants more Roo-dresses! I was pretty tempted - the boyfriend wanted to buy me one and I wouldn't let him but I don't know, I may have to rethink that decision later!

Have you gals taken a look at Rue21? I went yesterday and they had several cheap (made as priced) tops and even soem 6 dollar dresses. I don't know if I'll wear anything sleeveless as I've got upper arm issues but for someone who does they had lots of cheap stuff. My biggest concern is not getting burnt, no thigh burn, and comfy shoes. So i'll spend some time reading ohhhh 200 pages of posts
Hi ladies! I've been lurking these boards ever since I bought my ticket, and finally registered when I thought of a question without an answer so far!
So, I've done all the reading about clothes, showers, what to pack, etc... but what about shaving? Not sure if it's been discussed here. I tried to search, but it broke trying to browse 200 pages
How do you solve the shaving issue at roo? Do you wax beforehand? Bring disposable razors with the gel built in? Say "forget it, people can deal"? Right now my plan is to bring Venus Breeze disposables, but is it weird to shave your legs or something while at the water troughs? I can go a day or two without worry about my legs, but my underarms are a must (damn my genetics!)
