I really like thin scarves. Tie it around your waist or hips to add color to your outfit, around your neck at night, in your hair to keep it out of your face. Thin chiffon type ones can be stretched to be wide enough to cover your scalp and protect it from the sun.
If you go the scarf/bandana route instead of a hat, bring some bobby pins to secure it so you're not constantly fussing with it.
Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours religously. Or possibly more often than that. You'll still get tan but you won't burn. If you must tan, do it before or after 'roo when a burn isn't going to ruin your time. I also bring stick-style sunscreen which is great for near-constant touch-ups to my forehead and nose.

Dcbee was it you who had the fashion/makeup blog or your sister? I used to read it on my other laptop but I don't have the link on my new one. If it was you, could you send me the link please
oh wow im excited to try this blog. how neat i also love all scarves. they have a million uses. ifyou are tired of an old purse or bag try putting a pretty colored scarf in the top of it spilling over the top.
omg thats such a great blog. i love it! how did she get the idea to do that? ill probably get smacked for this but....you might look at the miley cyrus stuff at walmart. yes im old enough to be her...aunt...but this stuff is cute and soft. tons of long soft ts with pretty detailing. i like body skimming feminine tshirts and these really look cool and breathable to boot. you might check them out - you can say you are shopping for your neice if anyone sees you.
I got some fantastic shoes today! I got a gift certificate for TOMS shoes for Christmas and just got them. They are super cute, super comfy, and finally something other then flips that I can wear with all my long hippie skirts. I think they are going to make a great alternative to sandals at fests. Plus, TOMS gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair they sell. Super cute, and super great organization. Check them out if you haven't before. www.tomsshoes.com/default.asp

i found something great at the drug store. its wet and wild foundation primer. they have a new line of foundation that is supposed to adjust to your skin tone. well i grabbed the primer instead of the foundation but thats ok because i tried it out and it provides a really nice sheer effect without any "caking". when you put it on its white but then it turns flesh toned and disappears. it was just 2 bucks. i think this could be a good roo find?
It does sound like a good find, but I think would be sweated/rubbed off pretty quickly. I find that the only makeup that survives is a small amount of waterproof mascara - and usually I don't even bother with that. I just suck it up and resign myself to having fully-visible zits and other blotchiness.

Agreed, I would not even try to wear any kind of foundation at Roo. You just get too sweaty and dirty imo. I go with eyeliner and chapstick.
The only thing that goes on my face at roo is sunscreen and chapstick. I am way to hot and sweaty to even care about how I look. And then I get home and look at my pictures and think, ugh I don't look so good.
dcbee-Are you the one that recommended those wire-wicking shorts in this thread? I think that's what they're called. It's been quite a while since I went through this thread but I was wondering if you could find those at Target? I don't have a problem with chafing but think they would help with swamp ass.
Even though I read this thread before I went, I wore jeans last year and was pretty miserable during the day. I've got scrawny, pale legs and I think I look goofy in shorts. I don't mind being pale (I can't tan anyway and self-tanner turns me Lohan Orange) but I get tired of the "ZOMG you're almost translucent!" comments. However, I will be wearing skirts or dresses next year. Not only do they look more comfortable but also more functional for the portopotties. I've also picked up some thin scarves from Goodwill the other day!
i think skirts are a good option for you. i always take jeans for night time but i would die during the day in them. i tend to wear shorts because i lay on the ground a lot and i dont want to be worried the entire time about where my skirt is. if i do wear a skirt i wear a bikini bottom under it...but still...i wouldnt want anyone to think im alseep and flashing them.
maybe some of you can try the wet and wild prior to roo! im very pleased with it.
i alsolove their lip pencils. i also use their white eye pencil. you can put a small amount of it near the eye to wake you up if you are going out at night. it really works well but def not for roo - too hot for eye liner.
last year i wore bare minerals which does great with sweat...as a matter of fact i think it might look better when im hot. i also wore mascara so that i wouldnt scare anyone or look like a mug shot. i ALWAYS wear lipstick for the same reason. i just took a light colored sheer neutral color. im sort of pale with dark hair so i HAVE to have a little makeup or i just look DEAD!
say... i know what you mean. im very pale but i can tan really well and i can use the jergens gradual lotion tanner on my face (i never let the sun touch my face). i actually use a little jergens with a foundation brush in mid winter to give me a little tiny amount of color. however, i dont think that the self tanner will work on very pale skin - its the wrong tint for really pale skin. if you look at very pale skin and you think....what is the next darker color than the current color - its not tan or orange - so i just dont think the self tanner works. so im saying all that to say...i agree with you.
luckily i think the age of "you have to be tan" is over. thank god. one less stupid thing that we all feel that we have to do to ourselves to be acceptable.
Yeah, even when wearing bike shorts, people still look a little shocked when one sits cross-legged in a skirt. Whatevs, it's Bonnaroo. They'll get over it.
I did find that long skirts are just fine during the day. When sitting, you can hike them up over your knees to catch a breeze. Plus they're super fun to dance in. 100% cotton will be the coolest, but anything floaty will work.
I prefer these: www.junonia.com/detail.htm?sid=419011&tl=2&ldid=18&sdid=24. They're for plus-sized women and so freaking comfortable. Not cheap, but I wear them year-round as I find it's much easier to throw on a dress + bike shorts than worry about panty lines or chafing on a day-to-day basis. Also gives an overall smooth line under knit dresses. I've also had mine for 2 years now and they haven't shrunk or faded a bit.
I also know people on here have reported much success with Under Armour, even wearing men's shorts or boxers. Basically, as long as it's wicking, you'll be good. Non-wicking and you'll be sitting in sweat, which is gross. Also make sure the shorts are long enough so they don't ride up. I bought some wicking shorts that were on sale and only an inch or so shorter than the ones I linked to above and they rode up CONSTANTLY. Kinda defeats the purpose, you know?

I do too - who cares about makeup? It's Bonnaroo, not a fashion show
However, I did get a photo of myself and the boy at Bonnaroo recently developed...and my mom took one look at it and said, "Wow. You guys look rough!"
I don't care though. Capture the dirtiness in all it's glory! hahav
I get little heat rash type bumps on my forehead. Hate it, but don't know how to prevent it. They're gone by the time I get home which is why I think it's a heat rash and not a reaction to a product or zits or anything.
you might try a little bit of the monostat chaffing gel. think we have discussed it on here but you can use that as makeup primer. its really soothing to the skin - could help the heat rash? it can also be worn under makeup or under sunscreen.

If you look at Smashbox primer and this stuff it is almost the same exact thing. Crazy!
I am getting all psyched for Roo after taking a year off. Can't wait! Already looking for cute sundresses. Roo '07 and '08 my favorite dress was a 100% cotton (not jersey) one from Old Navy. It had pockets, flattered the boobies and had a skirt that stuck away from the body so it kept me cool. Here I am wearing it (I am the one with the hand in the air):
As you see I was wearing boots and they were surprisingly comfortable. I waterproofed them before Roo, and they are fleece lined (wicked away sweat) and I put in additional inserts. Held up great!
I'm so excited! My Aunt sent me a pair of bell bottoms that she wore in the 70's, patched up and all, and I dropped a few lbs over the past couple of months and just tried them on again...they fit perfect! Can't wait to wear them at Roo!!!
Hey ladies! Quick question...I really love everything on etsy, but have never purchased anything from there. How reliable, would you say, is it to buy from the site?
I buy tons of stuff from etsy! It's a little addicting, so beware. But I love it! I have never had anything but a wonderful experience as a buyer and a seller. In my opinion, it is waaaayyyy more trust worthy than ebay. The majority of people on etsy are truly trying to create a successful business for themselves and act as such. People tend to really take pride in their hand-made work. Just be sure to read people's feedback, and always pay with paypal. If anything should go wrong, paypal will protect you.

I buy (and sell) stuff on etsy often. Never had any issues.
i am almost all set basically, because target (duh) had these great sundresses this past summer. i bought one full price for like 30$ in august and then in november they had them on sale for like 6 dollars. its a full length one, which i like because then i can sit down etc., without having to worry about flashing anyone. bahaha.
here is a picture of the top of one of the dresses, i wore it to ACL and it was perfect (i'm on the right).

Check it out sometime. The charities are The Hunger Site, The Breast Cancer Site, The Child Health Site, The Literacy Site, The Rainforest Site, and The Animal Rescue Site. A lot of them have mostly the same things. So if you find something you like, you have whatever charity you like best benefit from your purchase.
