Ticket bought. Lodging secured when I re-signed my lease last month. The younger kid might be in for Les Claypool day. We're gonna revisit when daily lineups come out.

I still have a bunch of names to investigate... but I already have WAY TOO MANY artists in my "Must See" column... The event is going to be brilliant and the conflicts are going to hurt. Bad:

Been skimming through the descriptions on each artist page and not clear to me which shows (if any?) will be separately ticketed... feel like the Greenwood organ piece would be a logical one just given the length

I don’t think any are it, honestly. They were very upfront about which shows were ticketed last year when announcing it. I’m hoping they keep that up this go-round with identifying which ones are.
My body is scared that they teased Nala and she’s not on the initial. Hopefully an addition but she could be a separate ticket.

From my reading of Ashley's email, nothing on the initial lineup is separately ticketed. "If programs are added that require a special ticket, this will be clearly announced along with the program."
Got my passes this AM. Alls I need to do now is get a rental car to get from BNA to Knoxville because Knox's airport is still too expensive coming from DEN.

Excite!
How are you pricing that? I was considering doing that as well, but it's kind of a wash for me. It's early (so prices may be high), but right now it's about $800 to fly to TYS and $500 to fly to BNA. Rental car would be around $400 for the week for a compact...

Since they haven't announced David Sylvian and Squarepusher yet, we must assume those will be the separate ticketed events.

One other thing I'm hoping for... a collaboration between Zakir Hussain and Anoushka Shankar... covering some pieces that their parents used to perform together.

Haha FINGERS CROSSED FOR YOU.
My biggest hope is a Kali Malone set. The new record continues to be my favorite of the year and I need more of her in my life.

Google Flights. RT on United between DEN and TYS direct would come out to $507. DEN to BNA on Southwest (my go-to domestic carrier) ran me $270 RT. My folks are SWA A-list so the flight is essentially free for them with points. In the past I've been able to get a rental car for no more than $300 (oftentimes less) from Wednesday to Monday. I'll wait until next year to book it though since prices are going to be high this far out.
I feel like Premier and Sonic Explorer are sold out not long after general on-sale. Maybe just Sonic Explorer. Premier lasted a few days.
Kinda wondering if people are downgrading after the price hike.
Plus, Layaway 😂
I've never been shut out of a show I've wanted to see with GA in previous years.
Oh, I have 😂
I have flashbacks thinking of trying to get in the Bijou or Standard for must see shows. Then there was the JPJ/Thurston last year where both lines wrapped around the block of the Mill + Mine. Everyone made it in but jfc that was touch and go for a bit.
That’s part of why I do premiere. It’s essentially GA+ with a fancy name. I don’t really need kick off parties or seats or anything. Just knowing I won’t have to fight to get in is worth the extra scratch.

I typically line up early for my handful of absolute must see's (usually the church shows), and for everything else I'm content with split sets (ideally as complete as possible, but some set is better than no set). I'm planning on making more use of Lime scooters considering how well they worked for getting between venues at Hopscotch. Hopefully the same can work for Big Ears. Either that or I'll rent a bike.
aside, but do you recall if the fest offered pass upgrades weekend of last year?

I’m gonna say no. Both Premier and Sonic Explorer sell out so quickly I think they don’t offer that.

Last year, the line-up was announced on 9/12 and the early bird Premiere & Sonic Explorer sold out the very next day. According to my notes (why the hell do I have these notes?!) Premiere sold out on 9/27 and Sonic Explorer sold out on 9/29.

I’m in for my 4th year in a row. I might be traveling solo this time so hope to finally get to meet some of you folks. I’m hooked on the Sonic Explorer and the price is getting steep. Kind of wanted to feel meh about the lineup and skip this year but oh well. I also really hate the extra paid ticket stuff. But there were more than enough must sees to drag me back.
Top 10 1. Philip Glass - Music in 12 parts. Only legit Glass performance I’ve ever seen was Hydrogen Jukebox at Spoleto Festival in Charleston SC when it premiered (I was in high school). 2. Water Damage. Have been addicted to these guys for last year and half or so. 3. Clipping. 4. Kahil El’Zabar 5. Sun Ra/Yo La Tengo 6. Barry Altschul - w/ Joe McPhee makes this essential 7. David Grubbs 8. William Basinski 9. Michael Rother 10. Zeena Parkins

Top 10 7. David Grubbs
If you didn’t know, Squanderers is David, Kramer, and Wendy Eisenberg. I haven’t heard the trio yet (I don’t think) but it’s on my short list.
