154 artists on the final bill last year and 131 from the initial here... agree it's more than typical at the outset but I'd be surprised if there were no adds
Sure, there's more to come, but I'm sticking with what I said: "[not] much more" (compared to years past). I'm still waiting to hear about the separately ticketed events!

Speaking of adds... what would be truly amazing is if they brought back Roedelius again... 2/3rds of the original Harmonia lineup (w/ Michael Rother), performing "Musik von Harmonia!"
First taste of the Immersion & SUSS collaboration and it’s a doozy.
Ever since I started buying Sonic Explorer, SUSS has been the only act I've been blocked from seeing (due to capacity). Really hoping they'll be playing someplace larger than the Jig and Reel this time around!

I feel like they’re Standard this go round. Possibly M+M early but Standard makes the most sense in my head.

Just got an Email blast from International Anthem and they announced the backing group for Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti & Frank Rosaly: MESTIZX
Ferragutti & Rosaly's MESTIZX live ensemble includes Matthew Lux (Isotope 217, Iron & Wine, Exploding Star Orchestra) on bass, Ben LaMar Gay (Theaster Gates’ Black Monks of Mississippi, Joshua Abrams Natural Information Society) on cornet, vocals, and other instruments, Marta Warelis (Dave Douglas, Hupata!) on keyboards, vocals, and percussion, and Ben Boye (Ty Segall, Bonnie Prince Billy) on keyboards. With Ferragutti on vocals, keyboards, and other instruments, and Rosaly on drums, percussion, and other instruments.
This kinda sent it up a few spots on my “must see” list.
Oooo I have been listening to Prof almost nonstop the last month. Might not be your bag but I love his style and I've heard his live shows are bananas. You familiar? He's from there. He has one of the funniest lines ever in "Gone Fishin.'"
OK so if you can stay from Thursday to Thursday, you can get Allegiant round trip for about 205 before fees. The only thing is that they only offer Thursday and Sunday flights to and fro DEN-TYS so you'd have to stay for the week or leave Sunday AM, which I'm sure you don't want to do. Just wanted to make sure you knew about this option, though. You could maybe fly in on Allegiant for 95 then figure out another one way back home and that still might be much cheaper than 507.
1. Non-optimal arrive/depart date for me and my folks. 2. Costs extra to check bags
I've done my homework.
Dig. All good. Just trying to help ole neighbor. Plus I've gotten so used to not checking a bag that I forget about that sometimes. You can do laundry at my crib if that helps!
Also everyone should note that traffic in Knoxville from about 3-6 is worse than Nashville now (west of papermill drive). I would suggest not staying in West Knoxville if you're going to be driving in each day around those times or just give yourself extra time if you do drive from Nash.

I say this with quite a bit of shame... but there just isn't much contemporary hip hop that I enjoy. I don't know what's wrong with my ears...

Ahhh mayne don't do me like that. This has one of my favorite lines about social media or the internet in general ever in it. If you don't like this you probably won't like the other stuff.

Easier to not check a bag when you never wear shirts, my guy.

Apologies for possibly coming off as rude there. It'll be my 4th year doing this fest coming from Denver so I can't help but be aware of the best ways to get to Knox. Having flown Southwest almost exclusively for US domestic travel for the last decade or so (Denver is in the middle of nowhere, so you gotta fly to get anywhere barring a 20+ hour drive) I've gotten used to checking a bag and not having to be efficient in my packing. The drive from BNA to Knox averages 120-180mins and is pretty straight forward. It's just how I roll and it works for me. Appreciate the laundry offer though!

If there's a state with police that would show up to enforce a "no shirt, no shoes, no service" law, even if it isn't actually a law, it would have to be TN.
FYI, my mom had decided to pass on doing the fest due to its spread out nature and perhaps the music being a bit too avantgarde for her palate.
That being said, I have a GA pass available to whoever wants to buy it for what I paid.
Totally understandable. While Mrs. GL hasn’t ever ruled out a return she admits she has more fun sitting in the Square drinking on a patio. This year she said the same thing.

Glad you and your dad are making it though.
My wife and her friend used to spend most of the fest at “Soccer Taco” and Dollywood 😁
The rest of my group (5 of us traveled together) had abandoned the fest after the 2022 installment. I thought the 2025 lineup would have them all back in the fold, but no takers yet. I don’t mind going to shows alone and have met so many regulars over the years (including most of you here), so I’m not deterred.
As for the layout, it’s kind of amazing that all of the venues sit nearly perfectly within a 1 mile diameter circle (with a Visit Knoxville in the very center). Although I’d love for them to drop “The Point,” the layout is part of the charm for me!

I wouldn't lump my mom in that category, but they do have two corgis that need minding and Knoxville is notoriously difficult to get to if you aren't within reasonable driving distance.

I knew I had made an image of this somewhere. The circle is 1 mile in diameter...

It wont be the last time I say this: Knoxville is extraordinarily fortunate to host a music festival like Big Ears.

Last night, Negativland visited a local suburban movie theater for a 4-hour event: a screening of "Stand By For Failure" (more art than documentary; absolutely fantastic either way), a Q & A, and then a live performance. Like the Eno film (which is different every showing), if this ends up being a film add, I can't recommend it enough...

A pic I took from the event:
I wasn't able to make it, but they actually brought this show to Knoxville in June at our local independent cinema. Cannot remember if it sold out or not, but I think it did.
