Still putting my brain together after last night. PL set 2 was incredible, just wow. Then roisin murphy? I really did not know what to expect but I’m so glad I decided to part from my group and catch that solo. I think the surprise at the weirdness of her show had the second biggest smile on my face, but nothing will ever put a bigger smile on my face than that Jolene PL mix. My favorite moment was talking to some random guy after Roisin Murphy and he said “I’m still thinking about that. What was it? I came from gwar and only saw three songs but I’ll be thinking of that for a long time.” What an insane Thursday.
Quick PL thoughts. Last night was a huge full circle moment for me. My first Roo in 2013 was the PL sunrise set. That set really made me fall in love with Roo and PL. To be able to see him on the main stage for nearly 4 hours was pure bliss. Dang that show was loud. Also we had a blast watching the show with 𝕤𝕨𝕖𝕖𝕥 𝕔𝕒𝕣𝕠𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕒

Jortles decided I was going to Mdou Moctar, so I pulled off that late decision to get my ass and go in. It’s hot and I was pretty beat up from headbanging at gwar and PL and it’s also day 3 so muscle aches and shit. Also Google maps fucked me on the way to brunch. I’m up to 5 miles on the day so far so $20.00 bike taxis are in my future. I’ll either be in for Gary Clark or for sure by Key Glock. I gotta eat at some point too. Mdou was great. That’s among the best musical shows of festival so far and should be in consideration for top 10. Enjoyed and will see them again.
Otherwise so far I saw Chase and Status Wed which was pretty good. Yesterday we saw some of Eggy. It was alright but I didn’t find they stand out. I’d still go see them again. E was just saying how much more he liked Mdou’s show than Eggy. I wandered around and caught some of She She and was digging it. I went and caught a bunch of Sid Sriram. That was pretty good but the Coachella show I think it was had me more hyped that what it actually delivered. I’d also see him again, and band was talented. Then I wandered by Durand Bernard and was amused enough to stay for a while. Good band, I thought the drummer was the best. They are a singer dancer. Pretty R&B Soul and for sure flamboyant. Haha. It was funny watching some crowd reactions when they came on. I walked over and caught a few songs by Happy Landing who I didn’t know but is a band that came out of Ole Miss a while back. Kinda jam-Americana grass or whatever. I sat in the shade and went and posted up for PL. show was great as I said. Summer Love was the highlight for me but that ruled in its entirety. No way the force of sound what was being put out by the soundsyatem can be replicated at home. Waves and waves coming at you particularly in that second set as we are all saying. Brief duck to Comes Alive for the end which was good. Gwar ruled and Roisjn sounded fun. Y’all have fun today and for everyone watching at home we miss you. Brunch was great chance to see some folks as well. So cheers and let’s get it.

That mixture of genres yesterday felt really unique, very much a Bonnaroo of old. The Roisin show was incredibly good. That jump scare at the beginning though, I legit jumped.

Big FOMO this year for missing out. The Pretty Lights set looked great on the stream. Going to Coucharoo it up tonight. Hope to see Billy come out for Post.
Much busier tonight. Seems like a good amount of day passes. Mdou and key Glock are winning for me.
Same besides Pretty Lights. Key was great and needed as was GWAR for this lineup. At krungbang by the left screen bar and no line ever bathroom. But I might do pit. JRAD after front left.

Khruangbin won the day. Got in the pit with the whole gang and it was a vibe for sure. Incredible.
Just got back from Mars Volta and they killed it. Mdou was a perfect way to start the day .
So far :
1. Pretty Lights 2. Khruangbin 3. Rosin Murphy 4. Mars Volta 5. Mdou Moctar
Going to try and get some sleep here in Moon Colony, but I think Sudden Death will have something to say about that.
Seen some slander on infopoo about Khru lately. I wont stand for it. They are straight gas. I bet it was a perfect setting and slot. Glad you got in the pit!
Ugh. America running on disinformation and 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Solid afternoon when I went back in for good. I missed most of Gary Clark Jr. but got inside for the last couple songs. I wanted to go post up for Key Glock but got dragged to the end of Grouplove. Just as we got there they played Tongue Tied. Then they did a bit of Space Oddity and into a bit of Song 2 by Blur. I don’t really listen to them but for the brief amount of time I saw them they sounded good and their fans were pretty into it. I went over to Key Glock and it was already packed at That Tent and most crowded show there I’ve seen so far this year. I thought it would be more understated and chilled but this went wild. Y’all know I need my hard shit occasionally at Roo, and this delivered. Good good show. We walked over to What to see Khruangbin . I wasn’t sure how much I would like them live. I dig their drummer but they are mostly a groove band. This ended up cool as hell. I’ve seen them on streams but this was the first time I got to see them in person. Everyone says they play vibe music, and that’s exactly how I’d describe it. I know Vibe isn’t considered a genre, but where it is, that’s the band playing it. Quality show we were able to watch most of before going over to JRAD. I’ve seen them before but really dug and got into the end of this. Seemed like they ended early and went out with Truckin but I wanted more. It was also way too early for them to play in my opinion. Good shit. Catching the end of shit was becoming a theme as we walked past Interpol and got the last song and a half. I don’t know much by them but this really sounded good. I felt like Bonnaroo was low key schedule going off & really sounding good Friday meaning I had underestimated Friday. Collin didn’t want to go over to Post and said he’d rather listen to the stage breakdown at This so we just stayed there. Post was on in the background and he was endlessly hating. It sounded like background rock to me of shit I don’t listen to but seemed mostly inoffensive as grocery store rock. I was like fuck. It’s day 3, and I still haven’t seen anything at The Other. I generally don’t like Svdden Death but I needed something to do until Mars Volta came on at 12:30. I stayed the first half hour, and I left thinking PL is going to rule there. Sound production was top notch again. It was sort of a generic dub set but way better than any other time he’s disappointed me. I didn’t even want to leave but TMV was on the horizon. I can’t say enough about how good this show sounded in person. I barely ever listened to them but knew sort of how they go. I was wrong. Super clean sound and lots of shit going on musically. Way exceeded expectations until I slow walked it past T-Pain on the way to catch the tail end of Thundercat which I caught the last 4 songs of. I’ve seen him a couple times and wasn’t really excited but know how good he can be. Mix of some of his more R&B stuff with great musical interludes and performance. Damn that show really sounded good. I wanted to go catch Dead Room since I had already seen half of JRAD but I’d already been that way for brunch and wasn’t going to deal with that since it’s the complete opposite side of the grounds. Hope that was good. Friday turned into a solid B/B+ day which was better than the C or C+ ceiling it looked like on paper. I’m finishing my double jack and sparkling for breakfast. I had a decent day scheduled and was going to bail 8 or 9 until late. We’ll see later on. Wind has slowed and it’s already hot at 8:45am with a sunrise set ahead. So that might be a factor for me and how I approach today. Looking forward to running into anyone and everyone later. Most jacked for PL and y’all already know I’ll be on the left edge unless we go there early and get a spot.
