It's paywalled but if you are on mobile you can use reader mode. Anyways...wow I was not expecting this news today. I live in Uptown and this would be a 10 minute walk from my condo.
Highlights from the article:
Fest will be 3 day multi-genre music festival with 40 acts. Creators compared to Lolla
Smaller in scale though, they are expecting 30k people a day
Southern Entertainment has no connection to LN or GV (yet)
Tickets will be $199 for GA
Headliners to be announced next week
This may end up falling into the regional festival thread...but damn if I'm not floored right now. It's always been surprising to me that Charlotte didn't have a major festival yet. Part of it is there isn't a great venue for it, and to be honest First Ward park seems kind of small for an event this size. The article mentions "adjacent private properties" that will also be a part of the fest. I'm assuming Victoria Yards is included in this, and it also says streets will be closed so it will be fascinating to see how this is laid out. From the article it sounds like the city is fully behind it, and the creator also mentioned how fests are rarely profitable at first so I'm hoping that means there's a long runway for this to be successful.
My only other worry is SE's booking network for a multi-genre fest. The biggest fest they currently put on is a country music fest in Myrtle. Regardless, can't wait to learn more details and find out the headliners next week!
Phoebe Bridgers Young the Giant Mt. Joy (playing a different fest in Charlotte in April) Maggie Rogers Dominic Fike Noah Kahan Zach Bryan Sabrina Carpenter Miley Cyrus Lewis Capaldi Taylor Swift Tyler Childers Khalid The Lumineers Miley Cyrus Drake Ariana Grande Stevie Nicks Billie Eilish Hozier Olivia Rodrigo
Obviously most of these artists are not playing this lol. That said, I think it's telling that these are mostly pop acts. The article mentions "multi-generational" acts, so it's possible Stevie is playing this.
In a vacuum, I don’t love the lineup. Post is going to be at Roo and Noah is everywhere. Stevie is a big plus though as I haven’t seen yet and it could be my last chance.
That said, I would wager this is a relatively quick sell out. Charlotte has been starved for a fest like this and resale for all 3 artists was ridiculously high when they came through last.
I’m a little worried about the venue, as it feels too small for something this size. Also don’t love how VIP is in front of the main stage, but that is slowly becoming the fest standard.
With it being a short walk from our house we will definitely be there. Price was right too ($225 all in). Doubtful anyone here is going, but if you are the password for tix is LOVERS24.

Missed opportunity to get Alvvays. They are playing the Underground on that Saturday lol
Guess they could still play Sunday, but that would be 7 days in a row with a show so that’s doubtful.
We already had tickets to Alvvays so we will have to play it by ear. If Post is Saturday we may skip him for Alvvays, but I’m guessing Stevie is Saturday.
i mean it is just 3 names of 40+ haha, you can't really call it "the lineup."
Stevie is the only name I feel excited about of the three, but as long as the undercard is solid I'm almost certainly going to attend because it is such an easy trip for me from the Triangle.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Ambitious guess on the 3 headliners:
Stevie Nicks - Noah Kahan - Maggie Rogers
We are now 7/7 on this fest following artists that are playing. They have followed more artists since I made the list; most are headline/sub level rappers.
Hoping the fest will have a couple electronic acts sprinkled in, but I’m not holding my breath. Diplo & Skrillex were two new electronic names though. Interesting to note that Diplo and Jessie Murph recently collaborated, and they share the same booking agency.
The 4 that were added are all playing the main stage, so I’m thinking they aren’t the subs and they will have a second stage almost as big as the main.

Hope this thrives for many years to come, would love a close option and this kind of multi-genre thing is bound to hit for me eventually. But this current lineup is about as bleak as it gets.

I’m with you 100%. Not my cup of tea besides Stevie so far but love the possibility of a fest 40 min from my place.
Been listening to Jessie Murph since the drop and I’m now really stoked for her set. Lyrics are pretty basic but she has a unique voice that really resonates with me. Watched a bit of her OSL show and it appears to translate live as well.

kvothe you said you knew someone working with this festival, do you have any info as far as when the rest of the artists will be announced?
Sorry that was a bit. From an Instagram comment they said “more names this month”. I would really hope that means the full lineup but idk why they wouldn’t just say that.
I’ve been wondering if the second batch of artists that they announced are the subs. The first couple lineups that have dropped this week gave me hope that there may be some bigger names, but with Dominic Fike & Jessie Murph essentially subbing at Hangout I think more likely than not we have our subs.
Also random observation; all the currently announced artists are featured heavily at other LN fests this year. With this being SE’s first non-country fest it stands to reason they may be using LN’s booking resources for this. If the fest is successful I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a LN buyout in the near future.

It was just mundane enough to be believable. The IG posts announcing the individual artists say they’re on the main stage so you’re probably right. It’s a good group of artists and I’m even more excited to see what smaller indie acts they come up with. I also don’t mind there being overlap with Roo because seeing someone at LL can help avoid schedule conflicts on the farm (I just wish the double headliner was someone I cared more about seeing but hey that’s showbiz). I’m happy this exists though, and it’s right on the light rail making it way easier to get to than the festivals over at CMS. And an easier sell for my local friends than a four-day camping fest 7 hours away.
