I still hold that 2016 not selling well wasn't really the fault of the lineup. I think there was just a weird combination of economic factors and festival oversaturation in general that year.
If 2016 was the year they booked Dead & Company, then I heard from some deadhead that went (after I said I thought there'd be more of them there) that all were tapped out from some earlier big shows & Bonnaroo was expensive as hell, etc. etc.
Think they really thought the Heads would be there in droves and they weren't. My problem with Dead & Company was that they were making it a point during their tour to not play any song more than once during the tour. Thus, we only got 3 songs I'd ever heard of. Really pissed me off.

Listened to GUTS last night and I don’t think I would be mad at an ORod headlining set. Pop punk is the best way to describe it?
o rod is certainly pop punk and 90s alt inspired. she’s actually a huge jack white fan and said he’s a big inspiration and i can definitely tell on the guitar parts. there’s a nice letter that he wrote to her that she has talked about. guts and sour are both very good from start to finish. more artists that have her level of fame should be making albums that are 40 minutes or less with every song worth putting on the record. the bonus tracks to guts are also good.
last year i told my wife that as much as we like her it’s be way more fun to watch her at bonnaroo with other adults than at one of her arena shows where the ticket is expensive and i would just be surrounded by girls. but i can’t go this year so i’m actively rooting against her or lana being there because i would be pissed
I think she's more alt-pop that pop punk. She does have a few songs that would fit into the pop punk genre (IMO), but to me she's pop with an alternative twist.

The only complaints I have about the Bonnaroo set are no Althea and too much Donna Jean

2016 was clearly the lineup, come on. You can argue that the undercard in isolation really wasn’t that bad (it was, but that’s at least a defensible argument) but it was a wild shift from the 10 years of lineups that came before it, and the headliners were incongruous with the rest of the bill. Thing was a total mess. Plus whoever booked LCD Soundsystem to headline should be beaten with a bag of hammers.

For me, 'Truckin', 'Casey Jones' and 'Touch of Grey' are the only ones I really know. I so so so so so wanted to hear 'Uncle Johns Band' and 'Saint Stephen' and 'Sugar Magnolia'. I feel (and this applies to all acts) that when you do a fest, you bring your best stuff, as you will be playing to alot of casual to 'never heard their stuff' fans.

really? i guess i'm pretty big into the Dead but i felt like it was basically a greatest hits setlist. now i'm curious what songs you recognized if you don't mind sharing:

I was gonna make a joke about those being the only three songs you know but I thought it was too mean. This was absolutely a greatest hits, casual friendly setlist. Sorry it didn’t work for you.

Here's the proof for all 4
LCD - They are at Prima but not the Porto version. Def coming back to states for Roo. They chose Roo over that Porto bullshit.
Justice - the guy who works there teased it and they are on tour and playing EF.
Underworld - 2 years ago, one of the 2 guys that books Roo was asked what he was most jealous of on the Coachella 23 lineup, and he said Chem Bros and Underworld.
Darkside - the last time they played Coachella they also played bonnaroo.
