Friday: BJ's Lounge - Little Freddie King "Get-Bucket" Christmas Party - this will be super fun. Blue Nile - Kermit Ruffins & The BBQ Swingers - also super fun Jazz Playhouse - Trixie Minx's 'Tease the Season' Burlesque Ball… (Trixie is one of the best burlesque here beside Bella Blue) Madam Vic's - Cricket & The 2:19 - I know Cricket huh...idk how this would be actually, but I know her so I suggest you support my friends. LOL
Damn there is not a lot going on this weekend.
Saturday:
J&K Bar - T Marie & Bayou Juju HOLY SHIT. My dive bar is on the list. I work during the day not during the show. Hilarious. This is straight up Zydeco music. Kermit's Tremé Mother-in-Law Lounge - Kermit Ruffins & The BBQ Swingers If you go to Kermit, at his own place is the show to go to. Tipitina's - Big Sam's Holiday Jam ft. Big Sam's Funky Nation - Big Sam is always fun.
Kermit Ruffins & BBQ Swingers are always great. He's probably the top trumpeter in the city. Higher Heights is an old Reggae Band been around since the 1990's. Smoking Time is okay. Those guys were at Bonnaroo in 2019 I think. They have a bunch of side projects doing Daft Punk and shit. Big Easy Brawlers are led by this brass guy Ashton. They usually play late nights, so I'm not sure what time that show would be.
For Saturday, New Breed Brass Band is good, Mannie Fresh doing the ugly sweater party, I like Herobust but that's probably not your thing, Khris Royal and Friends (best up and coming sax player in the city). Wish I was in town but there doesn't look like a whole lot of big shows - just mostly local shit. Satchmo calendar is usually more comprehensive than WWOZ so link below.
New Mastersounds announced 2 night run first weekend of Jazz Fest at House of Blues. I kind of miss seeing them at 2am at The Joy, but if I don't have shit that weekend to see, I'll go to one of those shows.

I was wondering where you pulled that Manny Fresh Ugly Sweater Party out from. I second that. It will be a good time.
BG popped up on YouTube the other day since he's out of jail and is working on a couple projects. They need to do a Hot Boys reunion for old time sake. I think they did the 3 out of 4 a few years ago while he was still in jail.
Someone give me a quick rundown of this. I understand it ends at 7PM, which is weird to me. So the whole thing is in the heat.
It’s usually very hot but sometimes it’s pouring, and that’s worse. The fairgrounds become a mud pit. IMO the best way to do jazzfest is 1-2 days at the actual festival and as many of the aftershows as possible.

JF is also a festival where so much of the time folks spend sitting or getting food or wandering around. If you approach it like a typical Roo/ACL/Lolla/Shaky, you're gonna have a bad time.

It’s a full day of different types of music on about 13 stages. They have a blues tent, gospel tent, jazz tent. Zydeco, African-Centric a couple main stages etc. Food is best of the best for festivals, and it’s worth it to hit 3 or 4 places early to get what you want. Headliner will run to about 7:10-7:15 or so and it ends. There will be something like 30 night and overnight shows. Some start at 8, 10, 2am or whatever. Those are not part of the festival, but since everyone is in town, there are tons of collaborations and great shows. I think Mule had like 20 known guests sit in mid-teens, and artists go from place to place sitting in. Paul who started Okeechobee, Bear Creek and I think Bonnaroo has a side festival called Daze Between on the Tuesday and Wednesday between weeks for the last 2 years. String cheese did the first year, Goose last year. He brings in shit all day alternating between a small stage and the main stage. Last year pre-HL for Goose was Snarky Puppy which ruled but there was like 8 acts each day. For me, Jazz Fest just sets the table for late shit. You also get time to grab dinner or shower or whatever before night stuff. It’s a giant party around the city but obviously with so many people in town it can be tough to get reservations at the most premier shit.
I got an email from CEG announcing 2nd Annual Daniel Donato's Cosmic NOLA with special guests tba Friday, April 26 at The Republic (access code cosmicnolafunk). They also announced Dead Feat at Republic for Thursday, May 2nd (code is bathttub). Also they announced Polyphonic Spree Saturday May 4 (access code diamonds).
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Is there typically any association from the billing order and when they are playing?
There should be a first weekend second weekend tab but I haven’t gone to the site yet. They’ll do the dailies in a month or two. There are about 7 stages that many of the headliners will play to close the festival which are the main stage, Gentilly (usually for alternative type rock) the Congo Square for rap/R&B, blues tent, jazz tent, gospel tent and fais do do for zydeco and roots.
By the way, kind of an exciting lineup. I could see myself going to the actual fest more than one or two days. Guess I need to look into Nickel Creek since I think sang had that top one show last year.

WEEKEND 1: Chris Stapleton • The Killers • Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals • Jon Batiste • Vampire Weekend • Heart • Widespread Panic • The Revivalists WEEKEND 2: The Rolling Stones • Foo Fighters • Neil Young Crazy Horse • Hozier • Queen Latifah • Greta Van Fleet • Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue • Bonnie Raitt
Re: Jeremy Jamm, assume the top four each weekend will close a day on Festival Stage (main) and the next four on Gentilly (secondary main), with some exceptions like Trombone Shorty closing Festival Stage per tradition, etc.
Pretty solid lineup! Weekend 2 is fucking stacked vs W1, even if you ignore the stones.
If it weren't for two separate trips to NOLA already on the docket for May/June, I'd easily go...unless someone has a couch I can crash on for five weeks! I'll pay you back in Frozen French 75s from Superior.
Hey infinitypass, what you got this on a scale of 1-10. I think 8/9ish. Not everything is shit I want to see but it’s got more than the last few years and NY&CH. I’ve only seen them twice in 1991 and 2012. He was with Promise of the Real in 2016 which was still my favorite show that year anyway.
