I think already a popular guess, but liking the odds of Jungle considering they play LA now on 9/26 and then go to Miami 10/18, Austin seems like a great midpoint.
Metallica is probably the best non-Radiohead HL I've seen at ACL and Stevie would be a bucket list guy, never seen him. Post and Killers and PJ are all a similar level of ambivalence for me. I'd be able to have a good time but I don't care about seeing any of them (PJ a 2nd time).
Fri: Dua v Killers Sat: Post v Justice Sun: Blink v Gwen
MMJ / National / Melanie Martinez Cage / St Vincent / Mt Joy Jungle / Chapel Roan
Eh feels a little too stacked. Also missing Khrangbin on the top sub line. Porter (w1) too. And whoever his W2 opposite will be. Oh and of course Gary Clark gotta fit somewhere.
Wait have we talked Gary Clark? Tour starts in Dallas & Houston day after the lineup drops, no Austin dates, a Roo gig, and tour ends a week before ACL in Brazil. Perfect Kiilers opener?

Both Mt Joy and Cage have an Austin date on their tour, thought they were ruled out? Also doubt Chappell is that far up given her placement on other lineups.
Wouldn't The Killers be a top 3 band? When has that happened ever before that they only play one weekend?
They are definitely in another league than Shania or 1975.
2015 saw split Amex closers w/Strokes & Florence. Honda has had a few split HLers before so there is definitely some precedent.
I agree that The Killers feel right between a #3 and #4 billed. Last time they played in 2017 they were 4th-billed but still closed Amex.
My gut says they'd still be #4. ACL has a history of booking an act at #4 that were top-3 at festivals earlier in the year; Odesza just last year & LCD in '16 come to mind.
I feel the same way about Sheeran as I felt for Pink. Like "oh god, seriously?!" at first, then you get to the show, realize you know more songs than you thought, and leave relatively impressed with the talent & stage production of the set. An incredibly safe (and profitable) booking for ACL despite the mockery it'll get from the outside.
