How was Tyler??? I dont want to miss Simpson if The Creator is underwhelming
looked like half the stage from his most recent Coachella, pretty much identical setlist to what he's been doing the last few years. id probably still see some of it because I love him but after seeing the ACL 22 and his arena tour I probably wouldn't need to

Been trying to decide if it's even worth trying to go over to Chappell with crowds like that. She has some bops that I think would be fun and last chance to catch her before she's headlining these, but that crowd size scares me lol
Seems like a potentially great time to eat dinner and grab a good Red Clay Strays spot instead

Go. Youll regret it regardless. Cause next time it wont be as convenient when she comes to town most likely. So many people regret not seeing her at Coachella and she was in the smallest tent. Now she is on a huge stage with barely any conflicts and theyre just putting it on a platter to eat up.

I will say if you are going for it try and get close. I thought the sound for Chappell was equally as bad as it was for Dua Lipa the night before. For whatever reason the AMEX stage can’t get the sound right.
The best thing Dallon Weekes has ever done was leave Panic at the Disco to start IDKHow. Definitely stumbled a few times with timing just running tracks and not having a keyboard player.
Something Corporate was a damn blast, met Andrew in the press lounge later that day and he was incredibly kind. He loved us having the same first name.
Eyedress was whatever. Cool in the studio but on that huge stage...eh.
Wave to Earth was amazing and had a pretty decent and passionate crowd. The logistics of touring from South Korea can't be kind but I'm glad they made it over.
Khruangbin took a few songs to warm up but once they got hot they were unbeatable.
Split Vince and Jungle.
Started at Vince, played a bunch of new stuff at the start but as someone who loves that new stuff I ate it up. After Rose Street, my group and I were about to take off until Vince started asking a fan in the front row what she had on her phone and asking why she wanted him to take it on stage. That banter led to him taking another fan's book, signing it, looking at the back cover, saying the author was a white boy, then asking that fan (who was black) "What side are you on? You could be an insurgent." The whole stream is on YouTube, it's timestamped here.
Jungle, man, what a goddamn set. I've never seen so many people dancing at an ACL set in my six years of attending and they just sound so insanely good live. Getting to hear Keep Moving live was my absolute highlight of the weekend.
Dua was the most crowded set I've ever seen in my six years of attending as well. Started way back almost by where the American Express activation was and could not hear shit. Genuinely do not think they turned the delay towers on for her set. Slowly got closer and closer and as soon as I finally found a solid spot, it was a blast. Kinda shocked at how many people left her set early but oh well, their loss.

Thank you. This confirms my need to get the rail for Jungle
Despite Milton's best efforts, the wifey and I got into Austin safe & sound last night...now on our way to Maudies for some breakfast tacos. All is well.
Catch me at Zilker today--I'll be the very tall guy in a yellow floral resort shirt, birkenstocks & a fanny pack. The plan is to bum around until Norah Jones, then St Lucia -> Santigold -> Jeezy -> Blink. Hope to see folks around!
DeathByRomy was cool, not really my cup of tea but energetic start to the day.
Wandered around and ended up at Chief Cleopatra. Damn good Sunday set. Super soulful, tight band, I was groovin.
West 22nd felt super weird because just about everyone there was my age which I'm not used to but makes sense given the whole band are either seniors or recent graduates of UT. They absolutely crushed and it's crazy how great they were given they've only been a band for a couple years. I think they're gonna do really well and turn into a sunny indie band that all of y'all hate in like five years.
Misterwives threw the hell down, did not expect their set to be as heavy as it was.
Flipturn also threw down but a bit more respectfully. You could tell they were making the most of their time on that stage and taking full advantage of playing to Chappell's crowd.
How I've gone this long without seeing Orville Peck I don't know but it was well worth the wait. Another artist who you can tell just loved being on that huge stage playing to a damn good crowd.
Finally got to see Kevin Abstract, good balance of solo and Brockhampton stuff. He had the biggest crowd I saw at Barton Springs all weekend long (I refuse to call it the hotel name)
What can you really say about Chappell Roan that hasn't been said yet. She's the moment, she's very deserving of all the success she's having, and she is a hell of a performer.
Don't know if she'll do it W2 but that Barracuda cover absolutely slayed.
And holy hell Sturgill Simpson to end the weekend. Him and his band walked on stage the second Kelahni finished, plugged in, played for 90 straight minutes (past curfew), said "Thank you Austin! See you next week!" and went home. Absolute barnburner and absolutely face melting. I could very easily be tempted to buy a one day pass just to see him again if I lived anywhere closer to Austin. Do not miss his set.
Stealing this format from Andrew. Day One off to a great start…bummed around until landing on Thee Sinseers, who were a lovely surprise.
Norah Jones was very good. Was a little worried her softer music wouldn’t translate to the big stage but it worked well.
St Lucia was next; love those late afternoon sets on the Barton Springs stage. Great energy overall.
The we did a lil tour-de-ACL, catching 20-25 min each of Foster The People, Santigold & Leon…usually I just commit to one set but that trio was maybe the most stacked hour of music I’ve seen at ACL in a while. Foster was probably my favorite set of the three.
Jeezy was a colossal waste of time. Shame on whoever thought booking him was a good idea. Only good thing to come out of that set was trying all the tacos over there.
Blink was mixed for me. Maybe bc I saw them play that exact show in an arena earlier in their tour, but the whole thing was so overproduced for my taste. I guess they did a really good job of concentrating the ethos of the group and deploying it perfectly to appease the crowd that clearly only gave a shit about 1/3 of the set list. Also, that was quite a lot of pyrotechnics. Still a fun, campy time overall that left everyone in my group thrilled.
Only caught the last 20 of Stapleton. I’m not a country fan at all and only really know Tennessee Whiskey, but still impressed with his talent. The juxtaposition between him & Blink was disorienting but once I got into the mood, really enjoyed it. Watching that set wind down with the Austin skyline behind Amex made me remember why I love this fest so much.

Onwards to Day 2.
My buddy from Austin thought Jeezy was the best set of the day. He mostly saw the same stuff you did. He hadn’t seen Santigold before and dug the changed up music every song. Not that it all appealed to me but last 3 way split I did there was Masego GCJr and Billie. Sometimes it pays to move around for sure.

Further reviews from other friends said Jeezy ended strong, but we didn’t last long enough to catch it. When the first 10 minutes of the set is the DJ trying to hype the crowd by yelling “who here likes WEED!?” followed by Jeezy barely rapping thru the first few songs…yeah, tough scene. But legit glad others found it enjoyable—maybe I’m just a hater!
Beaches-> Teddy -> Remi -> Benny -> JUNGLE -> Dua was wonderful.
Teddy is a stellar performer. Great voice. Remi was kinda meh but the hits finally hit at the end. Benson Boone has a range unlike any other current singer. Missed Grand funk since my bride loves Benny. Anyone see GFRR? How was it? Jungle was everything I wanted. Got close and they sounded soooo good. Could listen to them for 3 hours really. Need a full show to swing bye me. Dua has 20-25 hits and they all slayed. The vibe was so good. People were dancing and singing their asses off. She’s well versed and her moves give me a boner. What more do you need?
Super hot days. Dust everywhere causing black boogies. Got my Roo bandana / mask for the walks between stages. Food and drinks are decent. Had a sweet cream caramel gelato waffle cone when it was 95. It was the tits
Getting close for Chappell / Dom / Tyler tonight. Then the Dom after. Bo Bichette jersey Tshirt. Come vibe with us. We dont bite.

Eyedress -> Wave to Earth/Hermanos -> Khruangbin -> Jungle -> Dua
First time going and it was a great day of music! Dua, Jungle, and Khruangbin were my top 3. If they kept Chappell, that would’ve been the best run I’ve seen so far.
The only two gripes I had were that talkers basically overruled Hermanos and those damn chairs, especially heading to Dua. If you want to sit, you should only be in the far back!
Nevertheless, it was a solid experience and definitely will be back in the future.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Amazing day. Theme of the day is “wow all these acts I saw will be billed 20 spots higher in two years.” Specifically: Geese, Beaches & Remi Wolf. Just incredible talent on the rise all around Zilker.
Got to the fest at 12:15, easily the earliest I’ve entered the grounds since I got a rail spot for Kanye ‘11. My friend (& host) wanted to see Geese, while the wife wanted to try all the food that usually had long lines.
Geese got the juices flowing early despite the oppressive sun. I know the meta appeal of Geese is that they’re so damn young & raw, but it’s clear the creativity & style is there right now. Really excited to track their next album or two.
Caught a few moments of Say She She—always a sucker for anything influenced by Nile Rodgers—but didn’t stay long enough to form and educated opinion.
The Beaches, tho, killed it. Went in only knowing Blame Brett and left thoroughly impressed with their stage presence. I definitely need to dig into their discography more bc damn they’ll be around for a while.
Then came the personal highlight for me—Remi Wolf. This is where I’ll disclose I got a Miller Lite stage hospitality pass for the weekend, so spent any down moment in their shade watching football & drinking free booze…but also getting the chance to watch the set from the sidestage! I waited for a full hour, but I did get the prime spot for the Remi set. She’s easily a top-3 listened to artist of mine this year so I was absolutely elated to get this opportunity. Watching her perform to a MASSIVE crowd from the comfort of the side stage was phenomenal. She came out to my favorite song, Cinderella, and had insane energy throughout. Was a little disappointed she brought a smaller band than usual, but I really can’t complain. One of my favorite live music experiences ever, y’all. Truly great.
Did unfortunately had to leave 5 min early as the wife needed to haul ass to her favorite group, Khruangbin. Ballsy move to start the set with 25 minutes of zero vocals, but it paid off. They opened with Maria Tambien and just went for it. Honestly one of the best sunset sets I’ve seen at ACL when you merge the music with the scenery, and the stage production worked super well in both the sun & in dusk. Add in their local significance and the whole thing just felt so natural & right. Only thing that was a tad disappointing was getting Say She She at the end & not Leon. Still, always down for a cover of All My Exes Live In Texas. Happy for them!
Caught 15 minute s of Vince Staple as we swung thru the merch tent (merch sucks this year imo). Someone said it earlier, but it was so nice seeing a legit good, no bullshit, professional rap set at ACL, especially after Jezzy’s face plant yesterday. Gives me hope the genre can still appeal to me, just gotta find the needle in the haystack.
Lastly…Dua fucking Lipa. I was a lukewarm on her booking given I didn’t like her new album, but it’s so damn clear she’s at the height of her performing prowess. How lil ol ACL comped her NA debut of that set before anyone else is mind boggling. It felt as if it should’ve been a Coachella exclusive or tearing down NFL stadiums. The setlist construction was brilliant, heavily leaning on the success of Future Nostalgia while splicing in other works. She sounded phenomenal, and the band did a masterful job holding down the transitions. Everyone was dancing and singing and having a jolly ol time. I can not think of the last #1 billed act who overdelivered quite like this. My only criticism was here donning of that UT jersey…girl these obnoxious Texas fans have enough good things going for them at the moment, no need to fluff their overinflated egos even more.
And that concludes my longest day at Zilker since I was a high schooler…but maybe one of my all-time favorite days of ACL in the ten editions I’ve attended. ACL is back and better than ever.

Ughhh they did it again for today and moved Red Clay Strays back 20 minutes so they don't conflict with Chappell, which cuts 5 minutes from them and 15 minutes from Sturgill. Just make her a damn headliner if you don't want conflicts

Quick little review, only went Sunday
Never listened to Medium Build but the singer loved to talk. They were ok.
Orville Peck was awesome and as mentioned brought out Willie Nelson which was awesome. He ended 10 minutes early though for some reason and there was still a few tracks I would have loved to have heard but overall great stuff
That Mexican OT had the crowd going and was fun. Also went over to Kevin Abstract a bit, I haven't really listened to his solo stuff, not quite as energetic but not bad.
I did end up watching Chappell Roan and honestly the crowd wasn't that crazy, at least not on the left side. Though I still couldn't get quite close enough to actually see her but the screens helped. She was fun and will 100% be headlining this thing in a few years if she wants to.
Red Clay Strays started with a bang and I was in right away, though after a few songs I kind of got the gist and decided to stake out my Sturgill spot. But they were a great lead in to Sturgill and enjoyed what I saw.
And Sturgill was absolutely awesome. Again still sad he got 15 minutes less than advertised but I guess I'll just have to see him again. Call to Arms was as good as I hoped it'd be live. Fantastic way to end a day and made the ticket worth it. He better come through Texas for some proper headlining shows, I need my 3 hour long Sturgill show
