Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
As we approach 2024 Folk Fest ticket day and all that fun shenanigans, our 2nd half of the Gull & Stars family has bailed on this year, so I'll have a pair of tickets available for anyone who misses out! Hopefully someone will be able to use them!
Am I crazy to think I can find somewhere downtown for 400 a night?
I mean it depends. If you want a hotel that's "downtown", then probably not. Closest you'd get is probably in the 500 range. If you check bed and breakfasts and inns though, you might have more luck with something cheaper. Sometimes people also post their timeshare rooms in some of the nicer resort style hotels as well, I've gotten those on the cheap.
If you push out to Middletown, or to north Newport, you can find stuff for under 400. The motel 6 will be around 250, the Hampton Inn and Howard Johnson both less than 400. If you do something like that, my advice would be to bring a bike and ride into downtown and take the ferry, or otherwise ride your bike all the way in to the fest. (You could also use a rideshare to get to downtown for the ferry, i can't comment on how well something like Lyft would work to get into/out of the fest itself because ive never done it.)
I wouldn’t be too surprised to see significant overlap between the two fests.
Would love Vampire Weekend and Charley Crockett. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a Orville Peck re-do. That run of Last Dinner Party, Katy Kirby and Palehound on Sunday also looks really nice.

I’m expecting Noah and Orville got a reinvite back.
Hozier is tough because his tour lines him up but I doubt he’ll headline Boston Calling and Newport.
Vampire Weekend would be phenomenal.
I’m guessing Ethel Cain and Josiah and the Bonnevilles will be at Newport as well.
My vote would be stop with the rolling lineup this year. No other festival does the gimmicky roll outs anymore
It’s the worst. If the argument is that it’s not all settled early enough to put it all out at once. Do a 2 phase announcement. But stretching it over 3 months iis really anticlimactic

Supposedly it’s a budget thing, i.e. if you’re not using all these names for X number of months for promo, you don’t have to pay as much. Heard a claim that it also helps skirt certain radius issues.
Completely agree that it sucks though. Rather than build excitement it often does the opposite, because you’ll get 3-4 week stretches with incredibly boring announcements. If you just put the whole lineup out people would have the benefit of seeing the more exciting stuff too. Even if they left the headliners a mystery until later, revealing the undercard would be so much better.

That makes sense. I was under the important it was all donation based and the acts paid for themselves to play, but maybe I’m wrong. If that was the case I don’t see why you would donate more based on when someone is booked, but radius clauses makes sense
Counterpoint: I love the rolling lineup announcements. For me, it allows Newport to last 5 months. With each announcement I dive into the artists music and get interested in who they are. Feel like I get such a deeper knowledge of the artists than if they were to dump them all at once. Each day there is an announcement it feels like I am getting a little surprise present.
Also, saw that Mt. Joy is playing Fenway the week before with Noah Kahn. Could we be getting both of them at Newport?

I agree, I like the rolling lineup too for the same reasons you provided. Though there are some weeks that feel a little lackluster.

Is there any precedent to acts being in the area a week before the fest, but nothing for a full week out and still being on the lineup? I’m kind of nervous we’re going to get Kahan but can’t make up my mind if I think he’s likely with playing Boston a week out from the fest. Would he just hang out in Boston for a week or are we going to not burn a headliner on him.

I think we’re going to get Kahan. I don’t think we’re going to burn a headliner on him.
Yes, I know he’s headliner level and selling out massive amphitheaters and headlining other fests. But I’m guessing Newport will get him back under similar booking conditions as last year, and he’ll end up on the main stage leading into the headliner.
Newport is weird like that. I mean Lana didn’t headline last year and is headlining Coachella now 9 months later.
