I think we’re going to get Kahan. I don’t think we’re going to burn a headliner on him.
Yes, I know he’s headliner level and selling out massive amphitheaters and headlining other fests. But I’m guessing Newport will get him back under similar booking conditions as last year, and he’ll end up on the main stage leading into the headliner.
Newport is weird like that. I mean Lana didn’t headline last year and is headlining Coachella now 9 months later.
I hope you’re right. What’s your vibe in Hozier, he also seems likely. I’m trying to gauge if he’s headliner material or second billing

I could see Kahan -> Hozier on that Friday night, which is what I was initially thinking when I saw their tours line up. I’m not sure on Hozier though with that Boston Calling date. Not that artists can’t play both - but a) it makes more sense Hozier’s initial tour didn’t have a Boston stop, b) and I’m not so sure Boston Calling will want to share a headliner. IF we get Hozier, we probably won’t know until May 27 at the earliest.

Y’all are tripping. There’s no world where Kahan is not a headliner at this festival.
He wasn’t even scheduled to play the largest stage last year? If he plays Newport this year, it’s likely because he wants to make up for last year’s late cancellation. And if I’m booking a festival, I probably don’t book someone who cancelled day of the previous year as my headliner at a higher rate (without concessions).
Not to mention, Lana is much more popular than Noah and didn’t headline.

I'm not sure that's true. Lana isn't selling out 2 nights at Fenway.

Noah also has the collabs that could make for a more interesting set than Lana

Lana gets 80% more monthly stream on Spotify, has a much deeper catalog of hits (and non-hits), has had a lasting impact on pop music, sold out her entire 2023 tour in large venues, and is headlining Coachella and the #1 act at Primavera Sound. She even has twice as many TikTok followers, which is the platform that helped launch Noah’s career.

Kahan has blown the fuck up since he was booked last spring. If he’s playing he’s headlining and that’s it.
Also lol at the idea that Kahan would open for Hozier at NFF
Guarantee he won’t headline. Will play Fort stage though leading in the headliner. having him on quad last year was not going to be safe
delulu take
I still think Noah won’t headline. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he was one of the earlier announcements to get hype rolling. (Assuming the sold-out Fenway Shows don’t put some sort of announcement clause in. If they do, then I guess he’d be unannounced.)

I think we can cross Black Pumas off. FloydFest 07/27 and Wolf Trap 07/28. Nothing else looks too noteworthy for Newport from the Wolf Trap summer lineup

Also, Waxahatchee at Latitude Festival in England on 7/26. Looks like she doesn’t have anything else that weekend and is stateside in August, so maybe Sunday is a possibility? Maybe wishful thinking
This is killer, never heard her before. I really do hope that Jay leans in on smaller folk acts this year and lets up on indie. I’d love to see this, Joanna Sternberg, Daniel Norgren and Damien Jurado on the lineup

I agree and would love to see all of them. Not having Jurado yet seems like a big oversight. I’d also include Jake Xerxes Fussell in with that crew.
Currently obsessed with the live version of T-Pain’s covers album. I know there’s no way in hell he plays, but this set would fucking KILL at Newport.
Saw T Pain recently (before this album) and thought the covers part of his set was cringe. It felt like he was just karaoking through his Masked Singer sets.

Every single year I’m like “how have they not booked Jurado” for the last 10 years atleast
