In 2019/2020 the possibility of Post Malone headlining seemed like a worst case scenario, now in 2024 he seems like one of the better options out of who they might book lmao. And my general opinion of his music hasn't really changed since then
i've probably already said it in here before, but i'd love to see Turnstile on this lineup. they added a bunch of Euro festivals in June over the last few days, and no dates in May (yet)

I know that there's a lot of unknown with C3/LN curating this festival now, but it is still pretty crazy that we are about a month away from the lineup announcement and we have very few acts that we're almost certain will be there. For a relatively small festival compared to Roo, Coachella, ACL, Lolla, they've done a great job of holding their cards close to the chest. I would assume that the top 3 would come from different genres. BC has done a good job of being multi-genre for the headliners. Even though the 2020 and OG 2022 lineups fell under the Alternative umbrella, they were in their own lanes.
So, if Post Malone is one of the headliners...he seems like a good dude and probably puts on an entertaining set, but I'd be disappointed.

Turnstile would probably be the best red or blue stage closer I could see them booking on a rock or pop punk focused day

Well, it may be entertaining if you like that sort of thing. Someone could prepare the most delicious beet salad in human history, but if you don't like beets, you won't like the salad.

You're really lumping RHCP (one of the greatest bands of the 90's) in with The Lumineers, Post Malone, FOB and GVF? I mean, I don't care if I never see RHCP, but comeon man, you should be ashamed of yourself with that false equivalency. I don't know you, but you're better than that.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb
Is this another take you'll stand by just like how Paramore isn't a multigenerational household name and can't headline Boston Calling?
That Hey Ho song (which, by the way, is no way to speak to a lady) is pretty bad, but the Lumineers have other material that's decent enough.
Post Malone, on the other hand, makes dreck unfit for the bottom feeders in Boston Harbor. Electronically treated, auto-tuned vocals get very old, very fast.

I am not a fan of Post Malone in any stretch of the imagination, but his Tiny Desk performance from a few months ago is damn good and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Yes, his recorded output is garbage with the auto-tune, but his live output shows a lot of talent. Man, I can't believe I just defended Post Malone.
Yes, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fall Out Boy, and GVF if they get the headliner bump

nah theyre completely right, rhcp is wildly overrated and anthony kiedis is not a great singer or lyricist. while rhcp may not be as outright terrible as the other 4 bands, they certainly arent one of the best bands of the 90s. Popular ≠ good

I saw his Nirvana covers livestream in the early days of the pandemic and that was fine. But, do you get the acoustic or loud rock sides of his work at arena shows and festivals, or is it just autotuned nonsense? (I'll grant you that Circles is pleasant enough.)
It's just a good rule of thumb to avoid booking festival headliners with facial tattoos. #HeyKidsGetOffMyFestivalLineup

Yeah, you're right.. John Frusciante, Flea and Chad Smith are some of the worst musicians out there, and they have no idea how to write a song. Aww geez, this is embarrassing for me..

Ultimately, we like musical artists in the same way that we like particular foods or we fall in love with particular people. Some people, places, things, and artworks resonate with us and some don't.
Of course, RHCP contain three adept musicians who play their instruments well. That's beyond debate. But some people like their stuff and some people don't. I like exactly one of their songs, and the rest is take-it-or-leave-it to me. Having spent my high school years listening to Parliament-Funkadelic, Mandrill, BT Express, Ohio Players and every other great mid-70's funk band, they always seemed a bit heavy handed to me. (The secret ingredient to funk is the rhythm guitar and John F. doesn't do funk guitar well -- he's really more of a rock guitarist -- and A.K. never struck me as being either a good singer in general or a good funk and soul singer.)
But it's all YMMV when it comes to musical artists.
(The whole song is noteworthy for it's funkier than funky rhythm guitar, but check out the 15 seconds or so between 2:50 and 3:05 for a perfect distillation of funk rhythm guitar playing:)

I want my rock and roll with great melodic hooks. That's why FOB is a thousand times more appealing to me than Turnstile. Great melodies and electric guitars go together like sweet and sour, peanut butter & jelly, Buffalo wings and blue cheese, etc.

FYI- the webiste has been *slightly* updated from what it looked like last week. you can now sign up for text alerts al la other live nation fests. Here. It looks like a beta version of the website, kinda bland and VERY basic.
also- take this with an intense grain of salt- but my brother was on business last week, and he mentioned to me that one of his coworkers also does VIP things for boston calling "and pretty confidently said Ed Sheeran was one of the headliners". Now...I'm not too sure about this- he has 0 state side dates next year. He also did 2 nights at Gillette last year. That said- flip side is he has a big gap between April-May, and he does a euro festival circuit starting June 8th. Maybe he's doing a random fest circuit next spring? Not sure. Notably, he's doing some random festivals that I wouldn't think he'd typically do in the EU, and he usually doesn't do festivals at all- but still.

There was a separate rumour that Pearl Jam and Sheeran were doing Bottlerock in Napa. Maybe Ed does California and Boston the same weekend with a simple rig.

Yeah, the Pearl Jam rumor for Bottlerock has a lot of fire behind the smoke. PJ is already rumored for 2 shows at Fenway in September, so they wouldn't do a Fri/Sun Bottlerock/BC.
On the flipside, though, isn't Ed Sheeran too big to do these relatively smaller festivals? He was performing at football stadiums here in the US and is doing multiple nights at 50K+ stadiums in Dubai and Japan. The festivals he is performing at in Europe are huge - Hurricane is 80K, Southside is 62K, Pinkpop is over 100K.

He was also doing theatre shows between the US stadium dates. 2 saturated markets, maybe he makes weird song choices or wants something different or thinks this gives him artistic cred.

seems to me like Pearl Jam is rumored for Fenway shows every single year. i'll believe it when i see it.

BTW, this is not a new signup. I just attempted to sign up by email and text and both times received a message indicating that I was already signed up.
The new site doesn't look great, but I think it looks a little better than the most recent design. I don't know why they don't just make the graphic design elements of the branding way more vibrantly colorful than they've been since the move to Harvard. It literally doesn't cost them a penny more to have the graphic designers do something more visually appealing than what they spend now for the big ugly.
As for Ed Sheeran, the interesting thing about that rumor is that it suggests that they may be opening up more adjacent space at the festival. The football game capacity of the stadium is 30,323 and you could fit another few thousand people on the field. Is that more than you can squeeze into the Green/Red area (including the food/sponsor activation areas where the additional PA speakers and large video screens on the sides of the stages make it possible to genuinely catch a set from far back)?
Still, I don't understand why someone who can fill Gillette on two consecutive nights would even bother with any festivals other than the big five U.S. fests, unless he wanted to do Newport Folk for the experience, as opposed to being representative of playing a festival with capacity that matches his appeal. The other exception would be performers with local ties, like the guy who lives in Watertown and will probably be headlining NFL stadiums by 2025, but may want to headline Boston Calling someday because he grew up in New England.
But if this is true, it may indicate that LiveNation wants to go big, which isn't a bad thing. If Ed Sheeran is one of the headliners, maybe both Tyler Childers and Hozier are subheadliners and/or maybe they'll be running more stages this year beyond additional little dink-and-dunk spaces like Fort IKEA or the Orange Stage (both of which are nice, but don't have a thing to do with anything on the top half of the poster.)
