idk the bonnaroo history at all, but boston calling is so much smaller. it feels like shaky knees hasn't really changed much over the years, and i'd think/hope that boston calling would be set up to run more like that

to me the fest had a pretty consistent booking identity through the 2010’s, I could reliably look at a lineup and see a few names that I genuinely like, high up and especially in the undercard. I think 2019 is the first year the bookings are noticeably worse, and a clear shift in booking strategy by the time 2020 comes around towards bigger headliners and a smaller undercard. Wouldn’t entirely be a problem but as the undercard has gotten smaller the quality has almost fully disappeared for me. Obviously the 2022 headliner chaos hurt the budget, but as of right now I don’t have trust in the booking team to look at 2023 undercard and go “yeah this needs major improvements”

I brought the budget component up in the 2023 thread, but this year's Friday lineup, even pre-YYYs dropping out had to be a budget play. Once you got past Niall Horan, the undercard just screamed cheap (personal tastes notwithstanding). As much as I love giving local artists opportunities with the Orange Stage, the 2023 iteration had local artists on the main stages too. That was clearly done for budget reasons. Looking back at the pre-2022 lineups, there were 16 national artists per day on Saturdays and Sundays (Fridays were 12 or 13, but started later), covering 3 stages and the days started almost 2 hours earlier. This year, it was 11 national artists across 3 stages each day, with an additional 5-6 local artists sprinkled between Orange and the other stages. I doubt they would go back to pre-2022 given the popularity of the Orange stage, but you could add a few more national artists and start Saturdays/Sundays earlier while keeping the Orange stage intact.

2016 was the major exception, when they went with the Sia/Robyn/Disclosure top line. A lot of people like me bought blind early bird, figuring that they'd get the usual indie rock headliners like The National, Vampire Weekend, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab, etc., and then were thrown for an absolute loop when the lineup dropped.
A possibility? I can see them closing Green or Blue (but they really don't feel like a Red closer. They'd need to either headline or occupy the Gizz spot of a Blue closer that overlaps with the Green headliner).

Innings Festival just released their 2024 lineups. Two weekends in AZ vs 1 and 1 with FL. Another C3 festival, so maybe there's some overlap. Only had Mt. Joy last year, but given this is the first full C3 year, maybe we'll see more.
Quite a few acts that were mentioned up thread - RHCP, Greta Van Fleet, Hozier, Chris Stapleton, Sheryl Crow.
I'd be good with Hozier, Jimmy Eat World and Bully. Maybe 311 for a nostalgia act early in the day.
Saw Cautious Clay and Phantogram at In Between Days, so good there. Plus, Phantogram did not impress me at all. Maybe it was the tiny stage (although The Beths were great on the same stage) or the fact that they kept calling out Boston, despite not being in Boston (I know - closest biggest city, but still), but they didn't seem into their performance.
Saw Hozier and Elle King at Iron Blossom in VA. Hozier was really good, but Elle King was awful and her fake southern accent made her even more ridiculous.

I dont know the employee well enough to pry or ask about it, and he definitely is hesitant to talk about it. I think he actively doesn't want people to know he works there because too many people then ask for info/tickets/favors/etc. I didn't get time with the mutual friend of ours to see if he knows anything or what he thinks, it was a loud crowded event. I don't think he'd tell me names, but he'd maybe give me a hint or two in the right situation. He also might not know anything yet. I run into him like once a month or so. That being said, this is also a public forum and i dont want to get anyone in trouble, as i'm sure there are NDAs involved with signings and stuff... so i'll see what i can do.
