Im getting “sick” of these bloated 1-day cash cows
I can't help but wonder if this is a format that works in Las Vegas -- but is unlikely to be profitable elsewhere -- because if people travel to the festival, they'll be spending money in the hotels and casinos.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the hotels and casinos were helping to bankroll WWWY and SNW, since they're likely to benefit financially as much as the festival promoters, if not more.
In most cities, attracting out of town visitors brings in a lot of hospitality revenue, but add gambling to the mix and the revenues skyrocket.
In fact, this might explain the one day format of these festivals. You could take these lineups and easily turn them into two or three day festivals, with fewer bands per day and much longer sets, but then people are spending the whole weekend on the festival grounds. If they're flying in from a long distance, they're going to make a weekend of it, which means that they might spend a day or two dropping money in casinos and restaurants which they wouldn't have spent if they were onsite at a festival for multiple days.
Then, if you repeat the lineup in a second edition taking place that same weekend, you're effectively doubling the number of people staying at hotels, playing at the tables, and dining in restaurants on their non-festival day.
Did not see Death Grips and 100 Gecs playing this, they seem more like a III Points booking then a Wimmer-like festival. It’s good to see them touring and I hope they hitting some other festivals. Mr. Bungle is easily the best booking and I hope Patton decides to come to the south. If this wasn’t $300 for one day I’d be there.

Cruel World in LA did the same thing and sold out instantly. It’s heavily line up dependent and the initial buzz.

Lovers and Friends was supposed to be in LA before covid and the Vegas move along with the LN rebrand. All of this easily mightve stayed in california had there not been covid. Also on price it mightve been a bit lower so there couldve been a bit kore value seen out of it. If these were all sub $200 nobody would really be getting upset at the cost. But for sure the Vegas element adds a lot to it in terms of revenue. They have hotel packages and all that which increases their bottom line along with prob some comps to get tourists to jump on this. At WWWY there was a football game the Sunday so if you had gone to the Saturday then you had sunday to do other stuff. Lots of people went to other randomness after that cancellation. We thought about going to Katy Perry but just decided on resting up for Sunday instead.
Interesting to see Mr. Bungle, lack of Faith No More. Curious to see if this is what brings Mike Patton out of his post-pandemic agoraphobia? Still been bummed from his bailing on Riot Fest 2021
man Ville Valo, haven't thought of that guy or his band since like 2005 when my first girlfriend was obsessed with him.
100gecs will blast the unsuspecting crowd's faces off
Ice T should be SUPER pissed with how criminally low Body Count is on this.
would love to see turnstile, ministry, killing joke, KITTIE, HEALTH, melvins, and all the perviously mentioned bands all together. Tempting buuuut $$$
Definitely quite a few bands I'm interested in, but IDK if that's worth $300 + travel.
If I'm traveling that weekend anyway, I'm going to Denver for Billy Strings at Red Rocks. Dunno if flying to Denver, seeing BMFS, then flying to Vegas early and catching this then flying allllllllll the way back to Atlanta is feasible timewise, let alone money-wise.
This is the day after my birthday, was originally thinking about Billy Strings red rocks, but damn might have to do Vegas instead
woah no shit, my wife's birthday is May 12 as well. i sent this lineup to her. she's not much for music festivals these days but she loves vegas and metal, who knows maybe she'll go for it and i'll see you there.
Any specific hotel recommendations for this thing? We'll probably stay Thursday-Monday to really make a vacation out of the deal
Vegas move is Cosmo fountain view terrace.
You may be tempted to stay at the strat since it's close to the grounds, don't.
But really there are so many great hotels on the strip.
Circus Circus is both close and cheapish, is it terrible? What about downtown v strip? The one time I went to Vegas we stayed at Caesars for free so I don't really have much to compare to
I would stay at Sahara. It's pricey but it's literally right across the street. It'll make a world of difference after being on concrete grass for 10+ hours. And you can go in and out of the festival too if it's anything like WWWY.

I've heard circus circus ain't great.
Never stayed downtown but people love it. It's too much like bourbon street for me. Very drunky vibe.
There is an excellent YouTuber named pompsie who does killer hotel reviews if you want to really research. I watch his videos just to relax sometimes he's so chill.

CC is not that great. Not a terrible move to stay in downtown or just in the midst of the strip. They have the Monorail which leaves you across the street from the fest. You jjust might have to wait around afterwards to get on it or wait to take a cab back to your room. I stayed way north and just drove. But I assume a lot of people are flying in and renting a car isnt the move.
Just looking and Resorts World has good rates if youre staying through monday. Still decent if you flew Sunday too
Found a sweet deal at Luxor, tell me I won't regret this
i haven't stayed at luxor but i always like walking through there, it's a cool hotel. i think you did good, people generally regard it as a great budget option. you are a ways from the festival grounds, but honestly most hotels on the strip are not walkable to the festival grounds.
there are inside walkways and a tram between mandalay bay > luxor > excalibur. to get closer to the center of the strip you can take the tram to excalibur, then walk through NYNY to Park MGM, and take the next tram from there to Aria or Bellagio.
keep in mind people mix up the "las vegas monorail" and various trams. as described above there are various trams that run between 2-3 hotels. the monorail runs from MGM all the way to sahara. to get to the monorail, which will get you to the festival grounds, you'll need to walk or take the tram to excalibur, then cross the street to MGM, then walk all the way to the back of MGM to catch the monorail. the walk to the back of MGM is not insignificant, it is a massive hotel. the monorail is a nice ride though.
as a general rule walking in las vegas always takes longer than you think. the size of the hotels distort how long a walk it is. you might see the eiffel tower and think are you just a hop skip and a jump from paris, but really it's a 1.5 mile walk.
How does this even work in a single day? I could enjoy something from many of those bands but also feel like it would be two songs per band then on to the next while I'm melting from the guitar shredding but really it's the sun.
