Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Background: My sister hasn't historically been a big music person. She'll go to a show here and there. She did Hangout with me many moons ago but more of a general vacation to celebrate her 30th. She doesn't listen to a lot of music and what she does is often pop country (although she does love a few others - Cat Stevens, Dolly Parton..)
Text yesterday: "Now that Spotify seems to know me, I'm really enjoying music for the first time in a long time. I just don't know who any of the people are." with a screenshot - Gregory Alan Isakov, Jason Isbell, Joy Oladokun, Sara Watkins, and Bonny Light Horseman (along with a few others).
My response: So basically, you have the same music taste as me and would really like Newport Folk Festival.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
i really don't like the coachella lineup, but if it's any sort of hint at a more widespread boygenius return then i'll be veryyyy happy... and if it's a one-off exclusive i'll be very sad, haha. i'd settle for a two-off where the other show is Newport
Coachella completely obliterating all other music festivals again.
boygenius to headline Newport Folk please….
I'm in my early 30s and feel too old for Coachella lol. Boygenius at newport would be incredible. But I'm not seeing much from this Coachella lineup that would fit folk fest. Frank ocean would be a huge yes. Wet leg too.
Alright, I guess I’ll do this anyways. Hopefully some more folks will send some cards my way.
NFF BINGO 2023!!
Details:
You can either submit 48 artists to me and I will make the card randomly or you can submit them in the order you want to use for your card. Once they're all in, I'll post them all on the page for everyone to see. (Messaging them to me first just helps everyone have an equal chance, so no one can get ideas from cards posted before them)
If you want to make your own card, I recommend using Excel. That is the easiest way to create one IMO.
If you submit an entry after an announcement is made it can not include the announced artist (seems obvious.)
Winner is whoever gets a full line of 7 on the bingo card first, or, more likely, whoever ends up with the most Bingo guesses right at the end of the lineup announcements. Suprise guests are not officially included in Bingo results. Only artists that are officially announced by Newport Folk are included.
Working on Bingo. Have 35 bands. Margo Price and Tyler Childers? Radius clause? They are playing Boston August 5th but it is sold out.
Also do folks think bands will overlap from Floyd Fest? I have a feeling Circles Around the Sun might make a stop at Newport if so.
There’s usually some overlap between the two, but not a lot. My money is on The Black Crowes (since Brothers of a Feather played Covid year), Goose (whether they get a festival set or take over some late night duties), and Ian Noe.

I had Ian on my Bingo card. Was also thinking this might be the year MMJ returns to Newport. I could see them bringing Nikki Lane back too. Wouldn't be shocked to see Ripe either.
My realistic, hopeful headliners and subheadliners for 2023:
Day 1: Big Thief -> Sleater Kinney -> boygenius
Day 2: Nickel Creek -> Goose -> Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
Day 3: First Aid Kit -> Wu Tang & Soul Rebels -> jam and cover set
Possible replacements: Fleet Foxes, Marcus Mumford
That said, I do think we’re getting the Black Crowes, given their proximity and that Newport has been bringing bands back from the Covid years. (Not a fan though so I didn’t include them on my hopefuls.)

I like the guesses. I really hope the Black Crows don’t show. I think trampled by turtles might be back due to missing last year.
Here are my guesses / wishlist of headliners and subs:
Friday: MMJ, First Aid Kit, Slater Kinney Saturday: Eddy Vedder, The Smile, Bjork Sunday: Eryka Badu, Orville Peck, Bobby Weir

I like the Bjork and Badu choices but I’m hoping they’re at Jazz instead.

does anyone remember from last year - if you bought say, 2 - 3 day passes, were you able to return just 1 of those to the waitlist or did the return apply to your whole order?

Website says you can’t transfer just one day from a multi-day ticket to a friend, so I’m gonna assume the same is true of the waitlist.
Also: were kids tickets always free? And did they have such strict age verification? I’ve got two kids (or maybe four) I’m hoping to bring and wondering if a pic of a birth certificate on my phone will be enough.

I assume you mean that you might like to return one of the 3-day passes, not one of the days? Last year it was indeed possible to return one 3-day pass and keep the other from an order that was for two tickets. I remember sweating about this while going through the mechanics of it on the DICE app (what if they got it wrong??!) but it worked out fine.
Kids under 2 have been free for several years I believe, but that got expanded to kids under 10 in 2022. Not familiar with age verification, but hard to believe they'd need more than a birth certificate on your phone. Our kid is 26 so he pays full price! :-)
I can't wait for July 28th! See you all at the Fort!

Kids (overall) were not free until last year.
In prior years, there was a “child ticket” that was a lower price.
Instead, it seems that the fest raised the price of adult tickets and children are free now…
