Jay praising the new 1975 single Part of The Band. here
this new 1975 album is allegedly more organic (co-produced by Jack A, of course) than the last few records. would be *super* interesting if they have more songs like POTB on the album and Jay wants em to do like an orchestral acoustic thingy lol. NA tour in the fall in Boston and CT. This just stood out to me cuz he never posted about 1975 before haha
Hi All, been lurking on this thread for a few years now but glad I finally signed up. Not sure when my first NFF was but been there every year since 2010. You all have great input and I have learned a lot about new acts.
Anyone listen to Colter Wall? Would love to see him at the fort with some other country acts. Turnpike Troubadours, Tyler Childers and Shane Smith and the Saints. Maybe Hiss could run the Workingman's Dead Tribute? Blackberry Smoke could be great too.
Looking forward to a year of speculation! Thanks for having me.

Colter Wall played a great set on the harbor stage in 2018. I would love to see him return! ‘18 was a great year for the country folks with Isbell, Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson also playing that year.

The 1975 -> Phoebe & Friends would be a fun way to end the day and reach a younger audience. (Especially considering that Phoebe has opened for 1975 in the past.)

I like The 1975 but yikes "Part of the Band" is atrociously unbelievably terrible. The new song that dropped today is significantly better. I'm down for non-traditional Newport bands joining the lineup, especially if they're going to do something interesting/different, but i think The 1975 would not be a good choice. Matty is not exactly the most likable or warm personality, I don't really think they'd mesh well at all.

I like Part of the Band, even as someone who hasn’t really listened to the 1975 too much. But it does sound like a Bon Iver b-side. Jay should just book Bon Iver instead.
Lol the 1975 are not playing Newport Folk Festival, you lunatics
Aware
This is what happens in the off-season though. Where we throw out names like the 1975 or Alanis and pretend like that could happen.
I don’t really see why it’s not plausible. Newport likes to book one pop alternative act each year. Bleachers and Portugal the Man come to mind. The 1975 is decently connected to the Folk community: Phoebe, Jack A, Japanese Breakfast. In Pitchfork’s review of their new music, Pitchfork even calls it “folk rock”. Doesn’t seem any more out there than previous bookings.

mainly because the 1975 are notorious massively egomaniacal assholes who aren't going to play in front of 5000 people for the pocket change that NFF offers
Thinking about who I'd really like to see on next year's lineup:
Tash Sultana (Their music just feels like a perfect fit for mid/late afternoon Fort Stage) Rex Orange County (Clairo was one of my favorite sets of the weekend - and I'd love to continue the bedroom pop trend) Del Water Gap (See ROC - more bedroom pop please. Plus DWG is friends with Maggie Rogers and was in a band with her) Claud (Similar reasoning) The Front Bottoms (Dinosaur Jr. and the Linda Lindas prove that there's a place for folk punk on the lineup each year - two of my favorite sets of the weekend - Front Bottoms seems like a logical booking) The Meat Puppets (Keep that Dinosaur Jr.-esque booking going!) First Aid Kit (Seems like an appropriate time to bring them back with a new album on the way) She & Him (Seems like an appropriate time to bring them back - wouldn't even mind a headlining tribute set to Brian Wilson that they could be a part of) Fiona Apple (I know... she hasn't toured in a while. But I'd love for Newport to be part of her comeback tour.) Goose (Hoping they not only earned an invite back - but that they'd accept an invite back knowing that they could play much bigger venues) John Craigie (Hoping that he earned his invite back) Durand Jones and the Indications (Hoping they get invited back after having to unfortunately cancel this year) Marcus Mumford (Since he didn't get an appropriate set this year - although maybe I should wait until after the solo album drops to make this request) The Dip (More soul bookings, plz) Lady Wray (See The Dip) Old Crow Medicine Show (It's been too long since they last played. Always a good time. Would make for a fun Quad Stage closer at this point.) Maya Hawke (I really like her song with Carm - and would be interested in seeing a set from her. Her music fits pretty well given what she has released to date.) Christian Lee Hutson (He's crushing the folk scene right now - and has a history at Newport Folk) Snail Mail (If you need the "Sounds Like Phoebe Bridgers" artist, this is one of my two recommendations) Tomberlin (If you need the "Sounds like Phoebe Bridgers" artist, this is the second of my two recommendations) Orville Peck (Always hoping for Orville Peck - but at this point I have to think it's not going to happen. But still holding out hope it's just been schedule issues.) Trixie Mattel (Would be a fun booking for the festival - has recorded with Shakey Graves in the past. Newport likes to make statements with its bookings - Drag is getting dragged by conservative leaders right now and this would be a great way for Newport to make a statement - especially given the irony that a Trixie Mattel performance at a festival with families could be illegal in several states)

I'll second Durand and Lady Wray. Some other soul-ish bookings I’d like to see are: Cleo Sol, Dijon, Ibibio Sound Machine, Jamila Woods, and Sudan Archives

Me looking at the signed artist stage sign auction and seeing Felice Brothers is at $260 and having to convince myself not to load up a bid and potentially spend $300 that I shouldn't spend on a board with some writing on it. Oh well. If I ignore it 5 more hours then I will save some money

How did you do? Did you ignore it? You know you got that Goose trip to save for.
