I have to keep reminding myself that breakthrough cases are still very rare even with delta, despite all the media focus on them, and that things like “10,000 infections” like have no basis in reality
I mean, both of those things can be true, you know? 165 million people have been fully vaccinated in this country. Let's say 5 percent of them experience a breakthrough infection. That'd still make it "very rare" (95% of vaccinated people don't experience a breakthrough infection!), but you'd have 8.25 million breakthroughs nationwide, which in absolute terms, is a lot.
My thought is that any of us attending a mass event in the next couple of months need to be very prepared for the possibility of coming down with COVID-19, and plan accordingly, with the good news being that, if we're vaccinated, it's just going to be a matter of feeling like shit for a few days rather than ending up in the hospital. My wife is actually going to stay with her parents for about a week after I get back from Bonnaroo, while I self-quarantine and get tested multiple times over that 5-7 days. Hopefully, I'll be all-clear enough for the Jacket shows at Forest Hills on 9/10 and 9/11, assuming those still happen.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
My group is getting ready. If it’s up to the locals, it will happen, because, COVID ain’t happening. If all the musicians cancel, that’s another matter. Guess I’ll find something else to do that weekend, like wash my car or clean the lent out my dryer vent.
How many people are attending baseball stadiums daily? Are there outbreaks being reported per game? The dodgers have a 56k capacity. Yankees 52K. All the seats are available for purchase for the rest of the season. Any media coverage on that?
Garth Brooks had a full house at Nissan Stadium over the weekend, the only press coverage about it was that it got postponed due to storms.

yeah I think it’s partially because sports came back first and live music has only been happening for like five minutes at this point but it is kinda nuts that everyone is panicking about Lollapalooza and no one has said anything about Chicago having two full baseball stadiums hosting games again lol
A quick thought experiment: what do you think the specific numbers would have to be to get Bonnaroo outright cancelled?
The vaccine has proven to be extremely effective against death and hospitalization so we already have a much lower “ceiling” on deaths
I guess it depends whether the people making these calls think that ceiling is acceptable at this point
Personally, and maybe it’s wrong, I feel like the unvaccinated have made their choice so it’s wouldn't be right to cancel everything again just to protect those people [note: I know kids under 12 can’t get vaccinated yet—but even with delta their risk is extremely low afaik]
This article made me feel better about Roo happening after all the negative Lolla press
“After many months of zero or few pediatric Covid cases, we are seeing infants, children and teens with Covid pouring back into the hospital, more and more each day,” she wrote, adding that patients have ranged in age from 2 weeks to 17 years old, including some with Covid pneumonias.
In Louisiana, where cases have jumped 244 percent in the past two weeks, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge was nearing its capacity on Friday, CNN reported.
I did read that article about Fauci saying that the chance of lockdown is slim and it made me feel better. But we NEED people to get vaccinated or we need to at least implement capacity limits and other restrictions. At least in my opinion. I also think that they lifted the mask mandates too soon. So.
EDIT: I know personally 7 vaccinated people that are breakthrough cases, that found out yesterday alone.
The data reported from these states indicate that breakthrough cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are extremely rare events among those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (see Figure 1). The rate of breakthrough cases reported among those fully vaccinated is well below 1% in all reporting states, ranging from 0.01% in Connecticut to 0.29% in Alaska.
The hospitalization rate among fully vaccinated people with COVID-19 ranged from effectively zero (0.00%) in California, Delaware, D.C., Indiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Vermont, and Virginia to 0.06% in Arkansas. (Note: Hospitalization may or may not have been due to COVID-19.)
The rates of death among fully vaccinated people with COVID-19 were even lower, effectively zero (0.00%) in all but two reporting states, Arkansas and Michigan where they were 0.01%. (Note: Deaths may or may not have been due to COVID-19.)
This report is great, but I'd caution that its cut-off point is July 19, which pre-dates the real exponential growth of Delta in the US. I think it's beyond anecdotal at this point that breakthroughs with Delta are more frequent than they are with Alpha or wild-type. They're still not *likely*, but they're not going to be as rare as they are in this report.

I can attest it got canceled only due to a storm. It dumped buckets here. Was very dangerous to have an outdoor event.

I think instead of a specific number it'd have to be more of a headline grabbing incident. Similar to how the NBA shutting down in the early days of the pandemic led to a collective "oh shit" moment for the average American. Maybe an artist getting hospitalized or more simply multiple headliners pulling out (knock on wood). Besides that, I think the show will go on.
The hypocrisy over it all does upset me. Much of traditional and social media cries crocodile tears over The Youths jumping around to their favorite hip hop music at Lollapalooza, but you don't hear the first thing about 100K unvaccinated Jim Bob and Nancy's going from that Garth Brooks show to every bar in town.
They'll just have to make a call on it really soon if they're going to do it. We're already past the point at which someone starting a two-shot vaccine regimen today would reach peak inoculation by the festival dates. Talks, shmalks - it's time to shit or get off the pot.
I know I'm probably annoying with my harping about this. We're just getting more reports about infections happening at mass outdoor events, and I simply can't see any logic in not doing everything you can as an event organization to mitigate that sort of thing and protect your attendees.
For some reason, every promoter in the country has been gun shy on vax requirements or negative tests. Like, I prefer straight vax requirement, but I will settle for allowing people with negative tests in. Large groups like LN and AEG and small promoters like my hometown IMP Concerts that runs the 930 Club, have entirely stayed away from any COVID-19 related requirements. Does anyone here have any insight on this, or is the truth that all of these companies are too cowardly to turn away potential anti-vax customers. It just seems like such an easy decision that everyone is refusing to make.
Right on their homepage: As of 6/15/2021, proof of a negative COVID-19 test or full COVID-19 vaccination is NO LONGER required in order to attend games at Yankee Stadium.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Why restrict anyone from attending an event if the state and country allows them every right to do so?

articles like that that share anecdotal evidence without any actual numbers give me pause
I’m not willing to die on this hill, but as far as I’ve seen there’s no notable increase in delta risk to children (with the caveat that things are changing very fast)
Overall the news is reassuring when it comes to children and the risks of serious complications from Covid-19. New research suggests the Delta variant may cause more serious illness in adults, but it’s not known if the variant puts children at greater risk of more serious illness. Compared to adults, children diagnosed with Covid-19 are more likely to have mild symptoms or none at all. Children are also far less likely to develop severe illness, be hospitalized or die from the disease. Out of about 3.5 million cases of Covid-19 in children in the United States, the National Center for Health Statistics has reported, as of July 28, that 519 children have died from Covid-19 (fewer than 0.015 percent), including 346 children 5 to 17 years of age, and 173 children 4 or younger
On the Lizzo front. I have switched preferences on who plays when. Tame as a pre headliner to Lizzo would be ideal.
This way I can be coherent for my fav band Tame on my fav stage on this planet. Then I can let loose for Lizzo, MMJ and Mark Rebillet/SE/Goose late night. Sounds like a fun Saturday evening, no?

I would still prefer Tame after since I think they fit the later night vibe better, but I'd be fine with them being before as long as they still get at least 90 minutes. I'll be bummed if they only give us a 75 minute show.
I'm cool either way, but my preference would be before Lizzo. I'd still see her for a bit, but it would be nice to take a break and be able to go over to MMJ with little hassle.
Is anyone aware if any of the artists from Roo that have fall tours are requiring vacc/neg test? From the handful of artists I've kept up with, I haven't seen any requirements. But if there any requiring it, I can't imagine they'd want to play Roo.

aren’t Foos?
True, should have said besides them. I wasn't sure if they still had upcoming shows.

Not any from Roo, but going to see Japanese Breakfast tomorrow night at a club in Rochester and they just sent out an email saying both masks and vaxx/negative test proof is required.

Does anyone that’s not a MMJ super fan actually want them to play late night? There’s plenty of good late night tent options that day. I don’t really get why a indie/soft rock band would be preferable at 2am. I’d probably catch them for a bit if they play afternoon/sunset on What or dusk on Which, but I highly doubt I would see them late night over Superjam/Marc Rebillet/Goose/JID/Ashnikko/Yaeji/UncleAcid/Remi Wolf
Also, the Journey set from lolla was surprisingly fun. Makes me wish they had foo for Sunday instead of Tyler. I miss my Sunday singalongs.
Yeah Tyler Friday and Foos Sunday would have been much more ideal. Also cause I'm afraid I'll be stuck with the choice of seeing an Everlong finale or dipping early to catch someone like Kim Petras if there's overlap. Kim Petras is a must see for me, but in the moment it'd probably be a tough call.

Would there be that much of a difference between an MMJ and Goose LN set?

I haven't gotten into MMJ but it's a show I really want to see based on the praise from this board and the little I've listened to. But I honestly don't see a way I can see their full set no matter when they play. Saturday has 5 of my like top 15 favorite artists in the world.
The reason I think they'll get late night is mostly cause I don't see anyone else fitting that LN Which slot.

I've tried many times to "get" MMJ in a late night setting and never really was able to, so I personally wouldn't mind a pre-HL set to enjoy dinner to or something.

Last time I saw foos they were doing acoustic everlong, but I noticed for lolla they rocked it. Which is a good thing in my preference book.
