Overheard our camp neighbors saying that they'd never heard of Phish and that they sounded "gay" (in 2019!), so naturally I had to rearrange my plans to blast Phish from our Bluetooth speakers all morning.
I missed it. My service is spotty and I can't get it to load. Gimme a rundown
I actually haven't listened yet. I'm saving it for later tonight. Here's the Jambase blurb
Jesse Lauter interspersed samples from Phish’s Kasvot Växt within his two-hour DJ set on Thursday, including the “Faceplant Into Rock” sample from “The Final Hurrah.” The turntablist also featured songs by Kraftwerk, ABBA, Todd Terje, CAN, Kraan and many other Scandinavian acts into the soundtrack for his dance party. Attendees were asked to wear white in keeping with the theme from the quartet’s musical costume. Phish performs tonight and on Sunday at Bonnaroo.

Listened to a chunk of this driving back to Murfreesboro late last night, it's a lot of fun. Love of Phish not required, just a love of dance music.

I’ll write some more detailed thoughts later but wasn’t really for me. I can see why people enjoy it but not enough to warrant staying Sunday. Happy I gave it a chance though.

We left at set break, and I have a mix of intense fomo from how great that set 2 playlist was and gratitude we're now indoors while it appears to be raining pretty heavily.
Never seen Phish before this weekend. Caught the end of them on Friday (starting around More) and all of both sets yesterday. I was absolutely blown away. They have acquired a new fan for sure.

For me, that Friday set was about what I expected. The light show was pretty amazing but the music itself went from very enjoyable to legitimately painful to listen to. They would often have something good going only for someone to scream over it or something. There was also one jam that just sounded flat out disgusting as if they were using the wettest possible guitar effects and keyboard sounds. It was pretty gross to listen to. Also for a band whose main appeal is musical talent, I counted like 3/4 times where Trey or someone majorly fucked something up timing wise. I believe there was one solo where it sounded like Trey was in the wrong key for like 10 seconds. It could’ve been on purpose cause it sounded pretty cool but it didn’t fit the song. There was another time where they all hit a note at the same time one the first note of a measure but Trey missed like half of them. Another time, Trey seemed to completely give up on a riff and go into something completely different but it could’ve been the way the song went.
Beyond that, the solos and build up were great. Me and my girlfriend spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out where that one riff Trey played was from. It’s definitely from a movie, maybe Star Wars? I could hear each instrument clearly and the What stage definitely did them justice. It would be on the border if I made a top 10 because I was definitely interested the whole time but not something I have a desire to see again and it didn’t seem worth it for me to stay for last nights show.
I can see why people love them but it’s just not for me.

The Sunday double sets are a favorite highlight not only from this year but all 5 that I’ve been to! Possibly my favorite headlining show I’ve ever seen as well. The crowd around us was amazing and had us cracking up. I enjoyed listening to Phish to prep for Roo but seeing them live was a game changer. I’m gonna try to make it to more shows when they come around!

Trey can be sloppy but you get used to it. Rolling Stone's review of him on the greatest guitarist lists put it best, I think "His epic solos balance technical finger-work against screaming climaxes, and they're exciting even when he's sloppy. Especially when he's sloppy." 90s Trey could hit the craziest fucking runs with precision, 2010s Trey can't but his sense of melody/phrasing is still second to none imo. Though he butchered the outro riff of DWD on Friday which made me grimace...but you get used to it as a Phish fan.
