Why is this liked so much? Patti Smith being booked doesn't seem super out of the question at all. I would think she's more likely for Bonnaroo than other major fests.
I've seen 'em twice and they are still garbage. I cannot stand their sound.
Do you not like their music to begin with? It takes a lot to win someone over with the live show if the person doesn't like their music to begin with. I saw them at Shaky Knees this year and thought they were incredible. But I was also in the pit so 50% of the focus was on the band and the other 50% was staying alive.
Nope, I don't like their music. Except fer like two to four songs (one of which features another of my least favorite singers). My girl and I were at their Shaky Knees show too. She was even less impressed.

Because Bonnaroo fucking sucks, I hate it, and I hope that all of it's attendees have a bad time at Bonnaroo as well as their daily lives.

I'm judging it based off of the 2015/2016 bookings.
The focus seems to be on bigger names with the 17-21 demographic that Roo thinks will move tickets because they have a lot of Youtube views. Patti Smith is definitely not in that bracket, and I doubt many people under 25 even know who Patti Smith is. When would she have played last year? 3:30 That Tent Sunday?
If the direction changes this year and they show they're actually trying to curate a lineup, I could see her on there, but given the recent trends there's no place for an act like Patti Smith on a lineup. It's the equivalent of expecting them to book John Carpenter or Kraftwerk as an electronic act. I don't know how to put in into words, but Coachella does a much better job of booking those acclaimed but slightly less mainstream acts ex: Underworld, The Knife, Drive Like Jehu, Refused, Todd Terje, The Replacements, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Stone Roses, New Order, At The Drive In, etc.
I thought 2014 was a huge step in the right direction, seeing Nick Cave, Darkside, Frank Ocean and Neutral Milk all get booked, but we've gone backwards since then.

Can anyone put into words the classifier for those types of acts I listed in my last post? Here's a few more I can think of that would make sense on a Roo lineup, but that I would 100% never expect to see on there.
Modest Mouse, PJ Harvey, Chemical Brothers, Godspeed, Hot Chip, The Descendants, and DJ Shadow all also fall into that category for me.

I was just watching Glasto 2013 highlights on Palladia now MTV Live, and it's crazy how Roo and Glasto were so similar in scale of lineup. How did we get to this mediocre product so fast?
2014 was my first year at Roo, and I saw some of tw best shows ever. This list is in no ranking form.
Damon Albarn Chance the Rapper James Blake Janelle Monae Darkside Jack White Elton John Avett Brothers Arctic Monkeys Neutral Milk Hotel Skrillex Superjam Omar Souleyman Cloud Nothings The other Superjam that is underrated(Chaka Chan and Taj Mahal?) I mean what? Robert Delong
I mean....they weren't going for a younger demographic here, and it was a huge success. Not to mention the acts I missed like Lionel Richie, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Nick Cave, because it was that stacked. Something just doesn't add up. They've never been about selling tickets, and so why now? By doing that, they've lost sight of what made them special. Great LN's, balanced undercard, and strong headliners. If 2017 is more of the same mediocre product, I just don't know what the future holds for this fest.
Saint Motel just came out with her new album. I know they played last year (how was that btw?) but would there be a chance they would come back again? I know X-Ambassadors played 2 years in a row.
I thought their set was really fun! I am actually going to see them tonight at Webster Hall
It would be surprising if they booked all of those bands but it wouldn't be surprising at all if they booked bands from that list.
I would be absolutely stunned if any of those acts EVER make a Bonnaroo lineup, and would rather bet money against it than for it ever happening if I had to choose.

I'd think if they're touring The Replacements, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, and Hot Chip would all be possible bookings.
On a funny note, Tim Kaine is a big Replacements fan

I saw yesterday that Rush Limbaugh is a Caribou fan... It made me like Caribou a little less

Tove Lo just announced a string of dates the month of Feb. with no Tennessee stops. I would expect her to add more to it but just something to keep an eye on.

patti smith, modest mouse, hot chip, and DJ shadow have all been on a bonnaroo lineup.

What the hell are you talking about?
I'll rephrase. Obviously no lineup compares to Glastonbury, but as far as the overall type of bookings. 2014 Roo had a similar lineup to Glasto. I mean Bobby Womack played in the daytime. Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige definitely cater to a similar audience. Damon Albarn played some solo stuff here, as well as Roo. It's crazy how in 2 years, the unique bookings have diminished so much. That's what I was getting at.
I can't stop playing Wyclef's newer version of "If I Were President" - and I can't see how I wouldn't fall over in love if I heard 'Guantanamera' played on the farm
