Some really good releases this past week. New Phantogram, Jagwar Ma, and NXWorries are all fantastic.
That Jagwar Ma is a fucking trainwreck.
Well I don't agree with you. It isn't as good as Howlin (few albums are). But I really enjoyed it. Slipping, Ordinary, and OB1 are the stand out tracks for me.
I say this every year but give string cheese the which for late night and let them do what they do best. Then let the some shitty edm play the other night.
If you want String Cheese and shitty EDM just go to Electric Forest, for Christ's sake.
I don't want shitty edm which is why I don't want to go back to electric forest just to see cheese. Forest was cool. Music sucked for the most part.

SCI late night at Roo 2011 was really cool. I definitely wouldn't mind a return. I also really hope they go back to having more than just EDM on the Which stage during late night.

tame impala was the only late night which act last year.

Oh right I forgot about that. I didn't go this year. I bet it was really cool.

Not really. No surprises during the set and ended very early.
String Cheese LN Which is better than no LN Which or shitty EDM. If they book MMJ again I would love to see a LN Which set, doubt though MMJ will be touring in May/June.
Could they book Wilco even though he is already down to play Big Ears in March?
I've been getting the 2014 nostalgia, and man, I'm pretty sure that's the best Roo will ever get in terms of late night sets.
At the end of 2014 I thought Roo was on an upward trend to claim the spot at the top of the American festival game, and then the past two years happened. Where did you go wrong Roo?

Take this for what it is, but I write for an entertainment mag and I recently got an email from Whitney's publicist that "Their forthcoming headline tour is on its way to completely selling out and 2017 will see them playing all the major music festivals." So we can probably put Whitney as likely.
haven't seen this band discussed yet. (I'm also to lazy to go back through the whole thread) But what about Blink-182?
I'd see them if there was absolutely nothing better at the same time. I feel like they'd take up a high spot on the lineup that I'd rather go to someone else, I'd prefer if they weren't there. They had a huge tour this summer, there have been plenty of opportunities for people to see them.

It was cool if you went in with the understanding that they would play the exact same set they always do, and there was no chance they would play a "special" longer set for Bonnaroo, despite the longer set time. It was a constant battle before the festival to try and keep everyone's expectations in check, but still people flooded the internet with complaints about a short set and identical setlist to other shows after Roo (moreso on reddit than here). It's like damn man, we told you.

Blink-182 would have to be a headliner, so it would be sad if they played Bonnaroo.
To me, the fact that we could have guessed what Tame Impala would inevitably due doesn't excuse it. There should have been better communication somewhere along the chain, whether it was between Tame and Bonnaroo, or Bonnaroo and fans. You have to remember that there are plenty of people who aren't on message boards and aren't following stories about the band's live show, if this was their first time seeing Tame Impala how would they know they normally only play 90 minutes tops? Why the fuck did Kevin Parker tell the crowd he really wished they could play longer when they were scheduled for 40 more minutes? Whether or not some of us knew it was going to happen, it was a fuck up and could have easily been avoided.

This is an excellent point, and I agree there should better communication regarding set times and lengths between festival organizers and artists. The place I'm coming from is I don't expect to receive accurate information from Bonnaroo, and I don't expect them to construct a reasonable and accurate schedule. So any reasonably well-informed festival-goer and even mildly informed Tame Impala fan should have been able to infer Tame Impala will most likely play their standard set, rather than randomly filling up a fill two hour block with music.
But that is where my point fails, assuming festival-goers are reasonably well-informed. So I agree with you, it is a failure in communication on Bonnaroo's part, and the blame for the shortened set falls and either them or the band.
I guess when I'm discussing festivals on the internet I make the erroneous assumption that if someone gets on the internet to find out information about a festival, they are a reasonably well-informed festival-goer.
Why would they have to be a headliner? They didn't headline Firefly, and I don't think their new album has truly boosted their popularity.
I guess I'm wrong about a lot of things today. Thanks for the correction.
I'd actually be OK with Blink-182 on the undercard. There are about a hundred bands I'd rather see instead, but barring conflicts I'd show up for a high energy sing-a-long.
I saw The Hunna last week and I absolutely loved them. They were commenting on my Bonnaroo shirt, but had no idea it was a festival. They need informed. And booked.
So what is everyone's ideal, but realistic, numbers 5ish/6ish artists on the undercard? The artists that close Which or pre-HL What.
Bon Iver, Beck, Chance The Rapper, Lorde, Duran Duran, St. Vincent, Queens of The Stone Age
I'm so-so on Lorde, but all the rest are artists I'd like to see. Seeing St. Vincent on the What during sunset would be awesome.
You think Duran Duran would be billed that high? In my mind they are more Tears For Fears level.
Personally I'd also be excited to see Childish Gambino (What stage please). Hell I'd be excited to see Keith Stanfield as Darius quietly smoking weed and playing xbox in the cinema tent.
