Drake - Arcade Fire - Neil Young Beck - Lorde - Pretty Lights
I'm actually cautiously optimistic about next year's festival landscape. With acts like Arcade Fire, Beck, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, The xx, The Shins, Fleet Foxes (maybe?), Modest Mouse, and Grizzly Bear likely to be on the festival circuit, I would expect an improvement from this year's underwhelming lineups.

switchout neil young for The Killers or Kings Of Leon and this feels pretty reasonable
Eh, you need to have an old white dude/legend act somewhere in the top 6. See: Bonnaroo 2002-2016.
On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if Bonnaroo booked one of Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, or The Killers in 2017. And given that Bonnaroo has missed numerous opportunities to book Beck over the last 10 years, I wouldn't be shocked if they drop the ball again.

That's a pretty Canadian top three there. Was that on purpose?
Edit: I would have no problem with that lineup. I'd take 4/6 I want to see anyday.
With the new album I really wouldn't be surprised with a return from Avett Brothers. We are looking at either Avett Bros or Beck or Fleet Foxes in the top 4. Maybe even third depending on the success of the new album. Pretty please: Beyoncé/ Fleetwood Mac/ Arcade Fire/ Beck Still pumped: Roger Waters/ Justin Timberlake/ Gorillaz/ Fleet Foxes Sure!: Aerosmith/ Stevie Wonder/ Queens of the Stone Age/ Future Lock it in: Drake/ Phish or DMB/ Arcade Fire/ Avett Brothers

You sound like all of us, talking about 2016's potential lineup in 2015. There are loads of great acts touring this year, they're just not on the lineup.
I know you think they are very meh but I LOVE the headliners this year. It's the undercard that sucks. Last year was the opposite. Let's hope they find a balance next year. Probably not though.

The headliners are fine/good. The undercard is the problem, as is the fact that Bonnaroo resembles the other LiveNation fests now - great top few names, then it just falls off a cliff.
LiveNation doesn't book the festivals they have a stake in.
Bonnaroo is still 100% AC/Superfly, Sasquatch is still curated by Adam Zacks, ACL and Lolla are both booked by C3, Voo Doo Fest used to be booked by Steve Rehage (but I think C3 is taking over the book on it starting this year?), Founders are still going to curate Governors Ball going forward.
LiveNation just cuts a check to these promoters. The lineups are still booked the way they always have been.

Weird then how the Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and ACL lineups are so similar.
I'm sure the public proclamation is that AC/Superfly, Founders, etc. are still in charge. But I'd be stunned if LiveNation isn't pushing them in certain directions. At least, I'd rather believe that than believe AC/Superfly put together this godawful shitpile by themselves.
I think the combination of LiveNation wanting their imprint on the festival's lineup and touring artists being kind of down right now (or when the lineups were locked into place) has a lot to do with it as well.

Well Lolla, ACL, (and I think Voo Doo?) are all booked by the same people. So that's why those two are similar.
Bonnaroo this year is totally on AC/Superfly. This was probably just the best possible mix of acts that were available to them. Which I agree isn't very good this year. I can also tell you that investing in the farm itself is a huge priority for them. They really want to hold other events there besides Roo. Very possible they cut corners on the talent budget to reinvest in infrastructure. But that's just me speculating.
Sasquatch, HARD Summer, Wanee, ect. look nothing like Lolla/ACL/Roo and they are LiveNation properties as well. LiveNation really only cares about a return on investment.

I don't think the undercards are similar because of Live Nation, I think the undercards are similar because of the type of people going to festivals has changed in the last 4-5 years.
Think of the people going to festivals in the mid-2000s. Hippies and people that actively searched out new, unique, off the wall bands. People that held high standards in what types of bands they went to go see live. There were less festivals, and less room for error amongst booking compnies. Now look at 2012 onward. Dozens of festivals, nearly every state has one. They've become a summer vacation for every frat boy and ditzy sorority girl in a 150 mile radius. The ones with money will go to 2-4 apiece. Why put the effort into booking unique acts when the Chainsmokers can sell 1/4 of your tickets? It's watered down so far that it won't recover until the bubble bursts harder than the housing market did.
I think, if anything, Livenation might be able to negotiate a lower price for certain artists, which is about all the push Bonnaroo needs to book them. But I also think Livenation got involved specifically to develop Great Stage Park, not to meddle with lineups.
Not sure where to mention this, but Bonnaroo just retweeted an article from the Tennessean about the new bathrooms. They even have pics. Looks like we will have two new 150-toilet bathrooms in Centeroo. One looks to be by the Ferris Wheel and the other near the ditch between the Which and What stages. They also mentioned 3 new shower buildings in the campgrounds but didn't provide any pics or locations.

This doesn't belong here but there's not really a better place to put it. My buddy sent me a bunch of clips from the first Anhoni show and it looked nuts. Like an even crazier Sia set.

I doubt the Avetts would be billed ahead of Lana and Beck. Also, why would CHVRCHES be back next year?

haha you could have put this in the 2016 headliner thread and it totally would have been one we would have ran with so why not this year!
