Is this lineup going to sellout, and if so, how soon? Does the lineup have enough mass appeal? Have people already bought into the Hangout brand that they will go regardless?
it will sellout super fast. #1 because of the location. capacity is only 35k, so dmb is pretty much all they needed to sell it out. add sci, sts9, dispatch, skrillex, oakenfold, flips. it's going to go really fast.
Since you put it that way, I can see it. My meh reaction compared to everyone else on the board made me wonder. I've been with the wife and kids the first two years, but it was really going to take a stellar lineup to get us back. This lineup does not do it for us. But if we change our minds closer to the Fest, I would like to have that option. I guess I will need to be ready to buy tickets Friday.

I guess it's possible it's RHCP, but I don't know how much hype that gets them. It's usually better to get it all out there at once. The more big names you have, the less there is to snipe about. I'm thinking it's a major artist that hasn't announced a full set of North American dates yet. That would include The Beach Boys, McCartney, Neil Young, Prince, Tool....maybe Beck? Not sure he's big enough to be billed higher than SCI, though.
Metallica makes their big announcement at 2pm EST today, so we'll know if it's them soon enough.

When originally contacted for comment, Zislin could only say that the announcement of additional acts including the final headline act would be made "soon."
“We’re not holding it to torture people,” he said. “There are a lot of logistics involved. It’s not a marketing ploy. If I could announce the lineup for 2013 and start selling tickets tomorrow, I would.”
So if it's for logistical reasons, I'd have to assume it's someone legendary or who has yet to announce a tour and not an act like RHCP.
the performances stagger between beach 1/EDM tent and beach 2/concrete stage. these pairs are on opposing ends of the festival grounds to minimize sound bleed. it works well.
It looks like the big Metallica announcement is that they are holding their own fest, as with Pearl Jam and Dave Mathews last year, to continue celebrating their 30th anniversary as a band and no doubt the 20th anniversary of the Black Album. I am going to say the remaining Hangout headliner will probably fit the legend bill and given the gap in their tour schedule in May Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers make sense to me.

5 stages. Everyone forgets about the stage inside the Hangout. The kids stuff only ran through the late afternoon, with regular acts going on after that. Justin Townes Earle, Railroad Earth, and others played in there last year.

If I remember correctly the fest sold out in around a month last year, but i'm sure last year secured a lot of repeat customers who want to bring new friends (like me). I really don't expect tickets to last past the weekend this time around. This fest is like Bonnaroo to me where even if the lineup isn't great i'll still go just for the atmosphere and people.
It's the damn beach, people.
Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster.
As someone who waited until the last minute to buy tix last year I can say it was April 28 when the show sold out last year, give or take a couple of days. I had a big group of friends going and a place to stay but couldn't make up my mind. When I finally decided to go they had sold out. I remember the date because you could tell by looking at Craigslist when it happened. On April 27 you could buy a ticket for less than face value. The next day a ticket couldn't be had for less than $250. I ended up buying a ticket from one of the wait staff at the Hangout for $275 the day before the show.
Not saying the same will happen this year but just wanted to point up how long they were available last year.

For those who are disappointed, who would have sent this into the atmosphere for you? More up and coming acts? Or just more acts you haven't seen before?

Just bigger names and no repeats, the first two years of lineups were very well curated, and had a lot of really good, and diverse stuff on them. The lineup this year appears to be dedicated to bro's and older people.
Last year had Cee Lo, Paul Simon, Widespread, Warren Haynes, Ween, MMJ and Primus. There is not a lot on there this year that gets me as excited as any of these. Eight or nine years ago SCI was really a good show, these days they just don't practice together enough for me to get a big WOW factor off of two nights.

More acts I haven't seen before. But since I've seen 600 or 700 bands, I'll admit that's getting harder and harder.

Yeah, I'm with you. Ya know, I've been going to a lot of festivals for a long time, and I'm starting to run out of great acts that I haven't seen. As time goes it's becoming more about the general experience, and I think I'll get that out of this lineup. Lame as it sounds, I never thought I'd see Dispatch, which is great. I think SCI, Gorgol, Jack White, to Skrillex, to Wilco is a pretty nicely diverse upper card. Repeats from Roo for sure, minus Skrillex who I just don't understand. Maybe more hard rock and hip hop diversity, but that's not my thing anyway. Half the names on the undercard could be hard rock or hip hop and I'd be none the wiser.
I think this lineup is chill as hell. I'm hoping they fill in with some New Orleans funk for the day times. Would have rather seen someone other than Oakenfold and Skrillex for EDM though.

The Stone Roses haven't announced any US reunion dates yet. Hard to believe they wouldn't play a couple US festivals this summer. I'm not sure if Hangout would even pursue them, but that would be one hell of an addition.

Who do you have on your bucket list that you still haven't seen?
I'm freaking out a little less now. <Phew> I have at least 5 people in the condo, so Hangout is back on! Surf, my sister, 2 of my Roo neighbors from last year and myself.
EDIT: And I just reviewed the condo rental page:
"For those late night munchies, Waffle House is right next door."
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

A few that would have excited me: Bon Iver, Explosions in the Sky, M83 (despite scheduling conflicts), Arcade Fire, The Head and the Heart, Florence & the Machine, Major Lazer, Animal Collective, Beach House, Real Estate, Big Boi, Delta Spirit, Eddie Vedder, Miike Snow, Vetiver, Neil Young, Modest Mouse, Shabazz Palaces, Das Racist, Nas, Damien Marley, Pixies, Lykke Li, M.I.A., Decemberists, Thievery Corp., Uncle Tupelo Reunion, more quality indie type acts or just more creative top billers.

There are a lot of newer acts I'd like to check out..St. Vincent, Flying Lotus, etc., but from guys around long enough to make a bucket list...hmm I'd love to see Eric Clapton. Never been able to make a show. Soulive. Herbie Hancock. Rage Against the Machine. Daft Punk. Gorillaz live show. I'd love to see Eddie Vedder solo, which is my only real disappointment about the lineup. I was really hoping that'd come through. Maybe we'll get a Jack Johnson/Eddie Vedder one year. Those guys should tour together.
