Shocking that everyone seems to love it or hate it... There are multiple bands I don't think we expected that should rock this location.. Dispatch shpongle bordello . There is a ton to like already and with the diversity plenty potential for additions
For those who are disappointed, who would have sent this into the atmosphere for you? More up and coming acts? Or just more acts you haven't seen before?
A few that would have excited me: Bon Iver, Explosions in the Sky, M83 (despite scheduling conflicts), Arcade Fire, The Head and the Heart, Florence & the Machine, Major Lazer, Animal Collective, Beach House, Real Estate, Big Boi, Delta Spirit, Eddie Vedder, Miike Snow, Vetiver, Neil Young, Modest Mouse, Shabazz Palaces, Das Racist, Nas, Damien Marley, Pixies, Lykke Li, M.I.A., Decemberists, Thievery Corp., Uncle Tupelo Reunion, more quality indie type acts or just more creative top billers.
Yeah man, some of those would have been great. Bon Iver and Thievery especially. MIA too. Here's a question, and I'm not being snarky. Are people up there in the States still falling all over Arcade Fire? I never really got them, and they were HUGE for the last couple festival season. Is there still a buzz about them? Are people anxiously awaiting something else? I always felt like they were a flash in the pan, but then they won a grammy and headlined Roo.

Just wanna throw my two cents in here:
As a HUGE DMB fan I must say that their festival shows do absolutely no justice for them. They usually have setlists oriented to appease the masses and they don't really demonstrate their full musical talent at festivals, probably because of the restricted time slot (a regular DMB show usually lasts well over three hours, many times over four). Their rarer yet much better songs hardly ever make appearances at festivals and I feel like they just don't get into it as much as they do at regular shows. I thought their Roo performance in 2010 was mediocre at best.
That being said, I think they are an incredible band and I don't think people should judge them if they have only seen them perform at festivals.
In regard to Arcade Fire, I can't speak for everyone else, but I think they make great music and put on an amazing live show. Their set at Bonnaroo last year absolutely blew me away. It was honestly one of the most powerful shows I've ever seen and I've seen many hundreds spanning over three decades.
the lineup this year is not nearly strong enough to get me to Gulf Shores. most of the artists that i would want to see I've seen before. there isn't a "holy cow, i have to go" band, much less the four to five i see from bonnaroo just about every year.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
I guess Eric Clapton is a possibility.......would much rather have Paul McCartney or Prince.
I think it's safe to say it's going to be a HUGE name though.
Paul McCartney, Prince, or Roger Waters, all whom I've never seen, are probably the only names that would get me to go now, since I'm underwhelmed by the rest. That or if media passes work out.
First time going to Hangout, I'm not blown away by the lineup, but I'm excited about the beach. My younger sister graduates college right before so my parents are paying for our condo- if they weren't I don't know if I would be going.
Question though- I've looked through these posts but didn't see it- I know they still are announcing a headliner, but will there be more additions? It looks like a lot less acts than last year's lineup
I'd go if it was : Clapton, Neil Young, McCartney, or Waters. I like prince, but what is the big deal with him? He's an incredible guitarist but a mediocre songwriter at best.

Yea i wish they'd throw their generic attitudes towards festivals out the window. They can honestly do anything they want at this point, so why not break out the deep cuts for festis?

Yes, they added acts last year after the main announcement. I don't remember who those additions were, though. If I remember correctly, Paul Simon was announced after the initial lineup last year.
Keep in mind that a lot of smaller acts don't make their tour schedules as far in advanced as the big guys, so the undercard always fills out later, like at Roo.

I just reviewed the website's FAQs and like ten page of this thread, but I give up looking for answers, so I apologize if I, or someone else, has asked this: Do they allow camelbaks and if so, what is the refill situation like? They aren't on the banned list, but they don't mention a filling station. They do mention "outside food and beverages" are banned, so would that include water bottles?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I believe they made me pour water bottles out last year. staying hydrated wasn't an issue for me though, I had a kleen kanteen I filled up at the shower which is centrally located in the middle of the main drag, just to the left of where you walk in.
there was another water station near the groove shark stage but it was always crowded. the shower was easy to get to and the water tasted fine.

I've been to the hangout the past 2 years, and I've always had a crazy good time.
There are some bumps the festival needs to smooth out so it can function better, but it really is a great setting to see live music.
I didn't feel like a kid on Christmas morning though when they started releasing the lineup. I'm impressed with some of the acts they've booked, but don't have that crazy anticipation settling in my brain.
I'll probably skip out on The Hangout, unless there is a way to buy a day pass and drive down for a day since I'm only 2 hours away.
I also can't justify Jazz Fest > The Hangout > Bonnaroo, unless I want to feed my son and I ramen noodles the entire summer.

they have filling stations. i can't remember if they allowed camelbacks. it's just like any other fest. we had one guy that made us dump our plastic water bottles, but a couple times i went through totally unchecked. i had margaritas in something similar to this i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/09/51/21/15/0009512115698_180X180.jpg when i was done with that i filled it up with water. jade said she brought the whole bottle of tequila in one day. so you can have a person that won't let you bring anything in and some that don't care what you bring in.

I'm doing the same festival run: two weekends of Jazzfest > hangout > roo. I think I'm trying to make myself get sick of live music. it would be great to sell my hangout tickets to help cover other expenses, but living so close I don't think I can not go see cheese play on the beach.
I had no problem sneaking in a 6 pack of bud light lime cans each day and a flask of liqour, varied depending on what day it was.
Is it just me or is no one really talking about Steve Winwood? The man is a living legend. He's no doubt going to bust out tunes from Blind Faith/Spencer Davis Group/Traffic as well as his solo stuff. He'll probably get an appearance by Jack White and/or Mavis Staples as well. Don't let his performance go under the radar cause it could be epic.

Damn, that sounds like fun. Can I go in your luggage?
sure, but keep in mind the weeks between will be filled with hour after hour of me playing skyrim and eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches. you'll have to hang out for that.

I agree with all of this except the bolded DMB shows are NEVER 4 hrs and VERY rarely over 3. They are usually around 2.5.

i think even as huge as they are, they freeze up at fests. this happened to the police at roo as well.
(repost from another thread, it makes more sense here)
I personally like the Hangout lineup.
Jack White, Wilco, FLips and SCI is plenty for me. I would pay 50 to see any of them.
I realize that most of you have seen some or all of these but I have seen NONE of them.
The list of other shows that look good to me are: DMB (Im not a huge fan, but I hear he puts on good shows so I will check it out) STS9 (missed em at roo due to being a vagina and going back to camp to sleep) Gogol (same as above) Skrillex (I want to molly out and catch this show. bite me) G Love Alabama Shakes Gary Clark Jr Flogging Molly Paper Diamond (close as Im gonna come to Bisco this summer I guess)
There's plenty there for me.
By the way I have seen absolutely NONE of the bands listed above. Zero.
