Each year there are changes to the VIP area, and I'm curious about how the VIP community responds to them.
The load in was better than ever, in my opinion. In previous years I've been admitted to the farm an hour before the VIP gates opened, causing a long wait. This year it was smooth and serene.
What's the deal with that chain link fence? We lost access to our side of the wall for our art. No disrespect to GA in James Bond, but we lost on that one.
We also lost our middle entrance to Centeroo. That was a bummer. (Never mind loosing the bar two years ago...)
The lounges were terrific. Better Which Stage lounge. ( The lounge hours weren't an issue for me, but I've seen some issues about early closing.)
I can understand moving Tent City from the far end, but, upon seeing the tents, and the total lack of shade, I got the idea that Tent City was designed by first timers who don't know how to do the comfort/shade thing.
The VIP perks remain worth the price. Showers could be better maintained...like the toilets. The bathroom services were, as always, clean and comfortable. I think that the shampoo people could spend a bit more time with a mop in the shower rooms.
I guess my primary issues this year are the loss of the dedicated entrances to Centeroo/What Stage, and the crazy chain link fence. Any of you have any thoughts?
I personally think that VIP does get better every year (we have been going since 2006).
- Drive in and check in. Works great..
-I liked the entrance and exit to and from Centeroo. I know they did not change it until Friday late...
- The chain fence did not bother me, I'm glad the GA folks can have a shorter walk in.
- Yes, the center entrance to What stage would be nice to have back. At least on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Thursday night dinner, drinks and entertainment. We really liked that they opened up the buffet earlier.
- Showers, stop handing out the shampoo packets !!!! people just throw them on the floor. Hey if you didn't bring shampoo I don't know what to tell you.. Have a attendant hose down the shower stalls every couple of hours.
Another great year.. and we will be back next year.

Good idea here. Maybe instead of the individual packets, whoever sponsors the tent can provide dispensers in each shower stall up near the shower head. Kind of like the anti-bacterial dispensers but they would squirt out some shampoo/soap.

Everyone in my crew wondered if a lot of the debris would have been remedied by a trash can in the stall. I know lots of people throw trash wherever, but honestly there was no where to dispose of the packets when you were finished. 1st VIP, loved every second.

So you think everyone in Pod 1 should have to walk an extra 15-20 min every time they go to and from Centeroo so that VIP doesn't have to walk an extra 15 min to spray paint a wall? That's kind of pretentious don't you think?
Like I said, no disrespect to James Bond/Pod 1...I just noticed an erosion of amenities in VIP. I camped in Pod 1 my first Bonnaroo, and made the walk around many times.

Couldn't they simply put the fence on the inside of the What stage for the one night that area is closed and then remove the fence all together? Fence on the inside would actually be a slightly shorter walk as you would reduce the circumference of the half circle.
The fence was basically useless once they opened the What stage entrance anyway.

i think im going to sneak in little wastebaskets and zip ties into the showers when attendants arent looking, and fashion a small garbage can in each of them, because it grosses me out to be stepping on crap that the people just throw on the ground in there. even when I am wearing flip flops.
The Garnier Fructice company who have supplied the shampoo and conditioner since at least 2008 has been the reason why the showers get so disgustingly clogged. People will rip the packets open, toss the ripped part down in the shower, then throw the packet on the ground, and it clogs. It's disgusting. Then no one wants to shower in those stalls, because they are clogged, and the lines take hours.
Every year I make it a point to *always* inform the shampoo volunteers, and tell people in the line to spread the word. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF in the showers and they will stay unclogged.
I've even considered writing Garnier Fructice about it. Dispensers would not only be better for the clogging problem, but also better for the environment.
Just spread the word to everyone to pick up after themselves and together, we can make a difference

This is probably my only complaint about VIP and it sure seems like it could be solved pretty easily. I usually use the showers around 2 or 3 in the morning and there aren't any attendants then but 1 trashcan in each shower unit would do wonders.
So for those went VIP in 2011 AND 2012, what changed over those two years? Did the changes improve your experience? Or did you like things better before?

They made the weather much better!
Seriously though, the VIP tents were substantially improved. Cold, refreshing AC while you sleep on a giant bean bag, recharging your phone is a great break from the day.

Air conditioned tents were much nicer in 2012. But the biggest change was probably the VIP area for the Which Stage. In 2011 it was bleachers set a little ways back from the stage. In 2012 there was a VIP section just in front of and to the right of the stage. It was great, I could get incredibly close to every show at the Which stage. Major improvement.

Looking at the improvement of VIP which stage view from year over year is exactly what got me to buy VIP.
Question - last year, I remember there being an area on the left side of the two of the smaller tents (This/That?) that was either VIP or Rockstar... does anyone know if this is a VIP area? Or so the smaller tents not have any VIP privileges?

This will be my 3rd time in VIP (8th overall) and as far as i know, there is no VIP area for the tents. What you're referring to is the Rockstar package. It would be awesome if VIP had some sort of privileged viewing for the tents.

Ditto. Rockstar package and Artist passes. Totally jealous of that area.
Photo and press folks are also allowed in those areas. I also thought i saw some guest wristbands in there last year too, but i wasn't paying that much attention.

Press people only are allowed in there Thursday nights. Photo people for the first three songs or 15 minutes.

You're thinking of the stage pit.
The thing he's describing is for Guest/Artist/Roll Like a Rockstar.
