Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
In all honesty, it's actually more likely for next year over any other year (except 2006/2007). We know that they should be touring, they play festivals, and they haven't played Bonnaroo yet.
They've done Coachella, Lolla and Vegoose (so we know that AC knows how sick they are).
I'd imagine them doing Coachella and Bonnaroo next year. We know Coachella will pay pretty much anything for them (they tried to get them for this year but they "weren't ready"). Maybe they are what is giving Goldenvoice the confidence to do the double Coachella?
But, yeah, they're touring, do festivals and have never played. I'd say we've got a chance, but it's nothing certain yet. I think it's certainly possible...

If a band is touring it is always possible. I hope they do make Bonnaroo, they are not really my favorite or anything but I will certainly be happy for all my friends, and I am sure I will make the show.

We really do need to plan some kind of blitz day in which we bombard Bonnaroo(Official Site/Facebook), Ashley Capps (FB/Twitter/e-mail), and Daft Punk's management with request for them to play. Make sure AC/S knows that they're worth the money.

I agree. We need to do everything in our power to make this happen.
So when do we want to do this? I think it'll be most effective if we all do it at like noon or so on a Monday. Early (but not too early) in the day at the beginning of the work week.

I'm all for this. This Monday works fine maybe 10 in the morning. So we're telling all of these people we want Daft Punk there. Send emails to everyone requesting Daft Punk play Bonnaroo, right? Or are we doing something more organized? Like Marketing.
Count me in! If we can get a list of who all to email I'll spread the word to everyone I went with this year as well as hopefuls for next year. I know it's been said a million times, but this needs to happen. Seriously.
All I had thought about was sending Daft Punk videos to everyone on Bonnaroo's side, with comments like "2012 PLEASE?!" And sending Daft Punk e-mails telling them how much we would love to see them at Bonnaroo 2012, and how they would be welcomed by everyone.

But what kind of "marketing" ideas did you have?
I just wanted to know what kind of message we were planning to send and the level of commitment involved. But a marketing I have, is some voluntary street team work where you go to music retailers, talk to people, garner some interest so they can e-mail Daft Punk to tour the US. We could hand out stickers like Daft Punk US Tour 2012.

I think that sticker would be misleading to most people.

I highly doubt there will be any Daft Punk shows until a new album is announced/released/ready to go.
Sure, there's a chance a new album may be out by next summer, but until we hear something about it, I'm not expecting to see DP at any festival, including Roo.

But, yeah, they're touring.
Are you basing all this touring stuff on that one article about them designing a setup for 2011/12? Articles like that have been being posted since DP stopped touring in 07. Just because someone wrote it, doesn't mean it's true. Like I said in my post above this one, sure there's a chance they will be touring next summer, assuming they have a new album coming out sometime relatively soon, but we have no idea at this point.

What are you trying to accomplish with this? I'm pretty sure AC already knows that people want Daft Punk to play Bonnaroo.
The Daft Punk camp seems way to quite for it to happen this year. At this point festival bookings are pretty much at their discrestion. The ball has been in their court for years, why pick it up this year? The longer they wait, their price goes up even more...

Why would the price to book Daft Punk go up depending on whether it's 2011 or 2012?
And I think AC knows people want Daft Punk as much as they know we want any other random "big" band like that. They have to choose just 2 or 3 every year to play, and I think bringing attention to Daft Punk certainly won't hurt the chances that AC picks them over any other given big-name act.
Why would the price to book Daft Punk go up depending on whether it's 2011 or 2012?
Exclusivity, supply and demand. It's really not up to AC, it's up to DP. Keep in mind production cost for a Daft Punk show is really high so without a tour, they wouldn't even consider doing a one off at this point.
I have no doubt they'll play Bonnaroo but it won't happen until a Daft Punk tour is also happening...

I think its hilarious how many people think DP are a lock for Bonnaroo once they start touring again. AC has never booked a big electronic act like Daft Punk and they also tend to shy away from rare acts. If anything DP will play Coachella when they return.

I agree. I think that's why we started this, to help try to convince them that Daft Punk would go over very well and that a lot of people would enjoy it. There is a precedent, the Mars Volta crowd tends to feel that they had a major part in bringing them back to the Farm.
And as this point, I don't really feel like Daft Punk's price tag is going up yearly. Its' well-established that they're a rare act. Would a Daft Punk 2012 show being a considerably bigger deal than a 2011 Daft Punk show would have been? And our thinking comes from multiple statements from Daft Punk's representatives saying that Daft Punk was working on a tour, which they said could start/be announced in Late Summer/Fall. In fact, I also clearly remember their reps also stating that they had been invited to play Coachella, among other festivals, but that they didn't feel their stage show could be ready in time for any of the big festivals this summer.

Agreed. A one off Daft Punk show alone could sell 80000 tickets at this point. However, if they are planning a tour now, we need AC to jump on it now. We can't wait for tour dates to be released and then email AC. So if on the day before the lineup drops we still have no word of Daft Punk touring, then I think it's safe to assume they won't be there. Until then, all we can do is hope that both Daft Punk is planning a tour and that AC is working on booking them for Roo. And we can try to influence them.

Which is why it wouldn't make any sense for them to create a ultra expensive, DP in 2012 worthy stage show without a tour and those rumors are still just rumors at this point.

Yeah AC has never booked a big electronic act like Daft Punk, so it's silly to think they'd start now. Oh...except for when theybbooked Daft Punk to headline Vegoose. But aside from that, you're absolutely right.
That's also true. That's why they completely avoided a rare Buffalo Springfield reunion show. Or a rare performance of Dr. John and the Original Meters playing Desitively Bonnaroo. Yeah... they never have rare acts. It'd be stupid to think they'd start now.

Well it took me a while because I was typing on my iPhone, but I emailed AC. I need to get my girlfriend off the computer so I can send one to DP. I'm not typing another email on my phone. That was pretty awful.
AC has never booked a big electronic act like Daft Punk.
AC has a whole festival committed to electronic music. I find it hard to believe that they would have a hard time deciding to book Daft Punk considering the knowledge they have of electronic music through Moogfest.
If Daft did play they would def be one of the top 3 acts. Cost wise and the rarity of their show would have to put them in the top 3.

If that's the case, might AC then consider Daft Punk too big for Bonnaroo?
Either the festival would need to be expanded, or the ticket prices would have to rise because of the fixed supply and increased demand.
The former would be a win all around if properly thought-out (expanded camping and facilities, and expansion of What Stage area). The latter would price a lot of 'Rooers out.
There is a precedent, the Mars Volta crowd tends to feel that they had a major part in bringing them back to the Farm. .
...and those people are delusional.
I don't think anyone really thinks that massive 2 year long thread totally brought in Volta for a second time. That's just silly. I think the joy of "We Finally Did It" was more just excitement that it happened after wanting it for so long.
I mean, to this day, they're noted for having one of the most well received late night tent sets in the fest's history. That's what got them back, more than anything.

Well, I don't think anyone is expecting a one-off Daft Punk show. If they play, it will be a part of a tour.
