Hey there!
I'm a speech-language pathologist (speech therapist) at a very low socio-economic school system in Northeast Arkansas. Since the pay at the school is not so great, I also see kids privately for therapy after school.
The kids I work with are sweet and keep me laughing during the day. One of the kids I see has autism and refuses to call me Melissa, he calls me "ASS." Every morning he runs at me with a big hug and says "Hi Ass!" Right now I just laugh and go with it because he is just starting to talk.
I have another one that is non-verbal but is a genious on a communication board. It is really awesome to see what these kids can do.
I also love to see the progress these kids make and how happy it makes them and their families. It is very rewarding.

I WISH!!
No, I too can not afford the C.I.A I am looking into the French Culinary Institute in Manhatten, but I don't really want to commute 45 minutes everyday, so I may end up going the Culinary Academy of Long Island. Do you think you need a degree for culinary or is a certificate ok?

Truth be told, and oddly enough ... I looked at French Culinary Institute. The reason I didn't go there was due to the fact that they didn't offer anything more than a certificate. Do yourself a favor and go and get the degree.
I have to wait till next fall but I am going to Siebel Institute to learn how make beer. Online for awhile .. Then Chicago. www.siebelinstitute.com/

The NY French Culinary Institute offers a degree.. I thought....NOPE,you're right! I just re read the website at it said certificate...Idk how I missed that! I have no idea where to go to school then Do you know of any schools where you can get a degree?
One is in Rhode Island ..the other is in well ... Baltimore. My vote for you due to proximity is J & W. Plus Providence is such a rocking town. I'll ask around about NYC though. Get back to you tommorrow.

I'm an engineer who designs interior cabinetry and shell components for a major corporate jet manufacturer. You may have heard of us in the news lately thanks to the Obama administration pressuring one of our customers, a large financial company now on the taxpayers' payroll, to cancel their order today.
For the record, I totally agree that a failing company that begs billions out of the US government should in no way be spending that cash on a new jet (they already have several anyway). I'm just a little pissed about folks *cough*Carl Levin*cough* getting up in arms over a "foriegn-made" aircraft. Aside from the basic aircraft (a totally bare plane with a pilot/copilot and a bucket to piss in on the ride over) that is made in France, all the engineering design, planning, manufacturing, and installation is done right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. The company is even the state's single largest exporter employing 2,500+ people. Not to mention our engines, avionics systems, and electrical equipment all come from major US manufaturers.
Sorry for the rant, it's been a strange day at work.
